What did you do today, in regards to detailing?

I just remembered something else I did, as a test, while polishing. A while back I bought one of those contact less thermometer, they're infra red I think, just point and shoot. So I tested the paint temp while polishing, the car had been driven a few hours before, the ambient was 18c, the paint was 23 - 24c before I started, and the max I saw was 32.5c right where I was working. I was curious to see what heat was being generated.

Just a wash with foam cannon and Mr Pink soap. Put on a layer of TW hybrid ceramic spray, impressed by the easy on and off. Next wash will be the same but top with Collinite 845 for the winter. View attachment 70905

Nice what’s your process so far? It’s looking good and for 70 years old it’s coming back well

The first day I absolutely doused it with Meguiars glaze #7.

Second day I used a throw away pad and rubbed in some more #7 removing the high/ dry glaze and left a lighter, more uniformed coat of glaze.

Today did the same thing. Each morning the dry spots that are soaking in all the glaze are getting smaller.

I will probably do that 2 more times or until the paint stays reasonably uniform/ moisturized when I inspect it the following day.

After that im not 100% sure what route im going to go as far as light polish and sealing.

Im learning towards 3m perfect it 1 polish and sealing with Meguiars paint sealant 2.0.

Im all ears for recommendations also but would prefer something off the shelf to seal it with.

Ceramic Coating #1 for me going down tonight!

Prepped the wash buckets before classes.

Now for late night wash and ceramic coat.

All clean and towel dried

Now to let it dry a little more

Then a alcohol wipedown

Then ceramic coat

I have watched a ton of videos on how to do it. I learned how to dip my car from YouTube so I think I can handle this one

This car is Plastidipped (by me) Plastidip alone can not be ceramic coated. This also has their Dip Armor Clear Coat on top. That allows it act more like paint and allows for a ceramic coating to be applied.

Not just today but last week. Made a handful of adjustments to the garage and plans for this winter.

I was really looking for a higher end Hot Water extractor like the Mytee sold here to back up and support AG but the good / bad news is that they are sold out everywhere. I called them directly in California and even their warehouse is pretty much empty with an 8-10 week lead time. Not good. So instead I found Sandia Brand Extractors who also private label their commercial units to hundreds of their distributor partners.

Turns out we have a big one here in Columbus that not only private lables them but services them and carries parts, accessories, etc too. They made me an awesome deal $600 of retail price for a 6 gallon commercial unit that blows the Mytee line up away. It's the largest of the 115v models, Pump: 100 PSI, Water Lift of 117" and a 1200 Watt inline heater for up to 6 gals of 200*F water.

I also purchased a nice 2 gal. garden style sprayer from Grainger Supply. It also is commercial grade with a Schrader valve built in so that I can simply add air without pumping. I figure that will be a nice way to pre-treat the interiors and what not and may even be super nice for rinseless washing this winter.

I then moved my Worx Hyrdoshot down stairs to the laundry area / tub area as I mainly use it as a nice 320psi system for cleaning my pads. I used to use it for rinseless washes in the winter but again, I may not need it now and it serves me best by using the power to safely clean pads.

Things are coming together for what I hope is a nice season of interior details vs just exterior. I do this mainly on the weekends, and since May I've completed nearly 35 jobs already. It's been a busy season for sure.

I ended up with Dairy Queen on my car and jammed in the cowl. Don't ask. Ha!

Somehow I managed to bag an extra day off this week. :D

The plan for today was to strip wash the Ranger in preparation for a new layer of protection and ceramic coating the black trims with DLUX.

After a wipe down with Eraser, I reached for an old friend in Collinite 845. I keep forgetting how good this stuff is, the extra effort is well worth it.

The grill, fog lamp bezels, headlamps, door handles, wing mirrors, window surrounds and windscreen wiper trim were all coated with DLUX.

The result is the most pampered povo spec Ranger XL single cab in the world! The pics don't do the results justice, the black plastic looking better than new.

The Ranger is now protected and ready for a busy Spring.

Did a RW using "Eve's better half" brand, trying to use it up actually (very good product actually to be honest) This time around I used the grout sponge because it was lightly dusty. That said, I was shocked at how dirty the rinse water was because it had been 4 days since the last wash, guess this is normal for cars outside 24/7, especially with morning dew now.

For the wheels I used Auto-Fanatic foaming wheel cleaner on the tires/rims. Just foamed all 4 of them, rinsed and then applied 303 Touchless Sealant to them, love that stuff

I'll apply some Auto-Fanatic "Holeshot" tire dressing tomorrow when I get to work for a little boost

Ha ha, 158 furious diesel powered horses

That’s about 50 more horses than my little 1.6 Miata motor cranks out.

I don’t even want to know the difference in torque haha!

I decided to remove the dirt that I had so much fun applying this week, and something really weird happened. I foamed it with Bowden's Snow Job, which removed most of the mud from the paint, having a good sealant on it really helps. Then a 2 bucket wash with Meg's Gold Class. While hand washing I noticed that the tyres were starting to look strange. Where the mud had been on the tyres they were turning blue, but not on the paint, that would have really freaked me out. After drying the paint I broke out some APC and a really stiff brush, and it started to come off, like an oily coating. It wasn't on the inside of the tyres, whare there was also mud, only on the outside, and only where the mud had been, and a little bit in the tread in some places. I don't use a tyre coating, but they used some after I got an alignment a month ago, I forgot to tell them not to. So I think the tyre coating, combined with the mud, reacted with the foam to create this blue oily gel. Check it out in the pics. Second pic shows one tyre half done. It's now sitting in the garage waiting for a tidy up of the roof, now that I can reach it with the new platform. View attachment 70936View attachment 70937View attachment 70939

The mighty (not) 2.2 makes 385 Nm / 284 ft.lb.

Quite a weight saving on your Miata though, this Ranger with it's hefty steel stray weighs over 1700 kg / 3748 lb.

Ouch, I’ve got 100 ft.lb. behind my right foot, but weight is around 2200 lb.

I look forward to the day Sizzle Chest details a first gen 1.6 Miata and lists the stats haha

116 hp*
100 ft. Lb.*
0-60 8.86 sec*
1/4 mile 16.78 sec at 82 mph*
Weight 2182 lb

*stats when new, likely less power and less impressive performance.

I need to check Turo one year and rent a Miata for my yearly running of the Tail of the Dragon (and surrounding roads ofcoarse)
