What did you do today, in regards to detailing?

I need to get some of these other PFM's and investigate

Now just to be clear, are these the plush, edgeless ones from Griot's Garage that cost about $30 for a 6 count

Took the Falcon XR8 for a drive yesterday so that I would have something to detail today.

Sprayed Hybrid Solutions Leather Mist onto my seats, steering wheel and shiftknob. I then took out the d/s mat out to properly clean it. I used Purple Power @1:1 and it did a great jobIt's now outside drying out.

I decided to see how many ways I could fail on a “therapeutic” Sunday maintenance wash

I got all my buckets and stuff sorted last night

Washing outside here is a balancing act between the sun and the wind blowing red dirt everywhere and I start right after sunrise and sadly tend to rush through a wash

Today started out calm and cloudy

3b96e8935171813437e0bf029d16faf2.jpg

First fail was playing chemist and putting a capful of ONR in my gallon of pre-mixed foam cannon soap because I saw it suggested

The “foam” came out like milk and ran off the truck faster than I could spray it on

b665b8983d8fa0734e74ac54fd136b8a.jpg

I dumped the soap and rinsed the cannon and put in my 4oz of Gold Class and made shaving cream

I foamed her up, let it dwell, agitated emblems and such, and rinsed her off

I would be ashamed to tell you how long it’s been on the truck but my 3D Poxy topped with OSW is still going fairly strong

68131a2f5440037b6fa1318813aad3f8.jpg

I use a 1 bucket multi mitt contact wash and did half the roof and grabbed for another mitt and saw this
d2ee5bb9298566dac8ec2e6dd680c9d9.jpg

Obviously the handle has deteriorated and there were bits in the mitts

I got mad because all 8 of my mitts were in the bucket and I wasn’t going to try and pick out bits of plastic and hope I didn’t miss one

My contact wash went down the drain so I just gave it one more foaming and a third rinse and broke out the blower and drying towels

Fail 3 was trying to finish up my OSW so I could try my HS Wet Wax

It’s pretty humid today and 2 sprays per panel turned into 4-5 sprays so of course I made a streaky mess of things and doubled my drying time and used towel count

End result was good but I’m not feeling especially “therapeutized”

Hope your detailing Sunday is better

Cheers

Michael

Yeah it looks Chilly! The humidity didn't help with the Wet Wax, less is more, let see how it goes down next time

It was the Optimum Spray Wax I was overusing

I KNEW I was using too much, especially given the humidity

I was just trying to burn it up so I could try the HS Wet Wax

I hate having lots of almost empty bottles of stuff laying around so I try to use it all unless it’s just garbage then I don’t hesitate to toss it

I will break out the Wet Wax next time

Wet wax is a nice product... only thing from Turtle wax I personally like or use. Not the slickest drying aid i use but one of my top choices

I had to give the Qashqai a wipe down today, we had 2.5 inches of rain overnight and I made the mistake of opening the garage door this morning. The wind filled some of the garage door panels with water, and it dripped all over the front half. It was only lightly dusty, so I used a QD dilution of ONR. Very little driving happening, were in a lock down at the moment, about to head into week 4, I think.

On a happy note, the heavy rain allowed the FJ to clean itself, the last protection I put on it was Meg's Quikwax, about a month ago. View attachment 74202

Good to see the quality controller checking out the end result

So the ES sat in 2 downpours on Sunday, followed by the sun coming out, so I decided to do a RW on this evening. The RW of choice today was Feynlab, 1.5 ounces in 3.5 gallons of water, using that Adam's version of the BRS.

Since it was only a days worth of sitting in the rain and dust, I didn't pre-treat the panels. I did use 2BM and grit guards and didn't notice the rinse water being too dirty, so I feel I made the right call. Dried the ES with 2 Griot's Garage PFM's.

I then moved to the rims...no they only sat in 2 downpours and drove about 20 miles today but I pride myself in clean rims. Today's choice was Auto-Fanatic foaming wheel cleaner in the "light duty" ratio. I used my Speed Master and Mother's wheel brush only here. Once the rims and tires were dried I applied a light coat of Gyeon Tire.

Oh and BTW, while doing this wash, I noticed a dent in the d/s rear portion of the roof. I guess I'll be calling the insurance to find out about this

Fantastic day for detailing, sunny sky's and 21 deg C / 70 deg F, would have been rude not to.

Maintenance washes for the Mustang and Ranger, trying out a few things in the process.

Also first use of Meguiar's Hyper Dressing.

With everyone in Victoria under lockdown, I have been having an audience while I detail, me giving entertainment the young mother and her newborn sitting on their porch.

The last 2 times I washed the FJ just happened to be on a Tuesday morning as the guy who empties the recycling bins was driving by, he even stopped and commented that I was doing that last time he picked up. I just told him, when it's dirty, you gotta wash it. He laughed and drove off. I'll have to avoid doing it next Tuesday.
