What did you do today, in regards to detailing?

The sun is hot and bright outside, so I decided to work inside. Gave the FJ an ONR wash, wiped it down with Carpro Eraser. Saw some marks on the hood I wasn't happy with, so I gave it a polish with Scholl S30+, using the Ryobi One+ cordless RO, which I found to be very smooth.

I then applied Collinite 845, to give its longevity a test in the Australian summer, I'm amazed at how far Collinite spreads, I've done at least 4 coatings with it, and I've used barely an inch at the top of the bottle.

I've given up on de-browning the tyres, so I just coated them with Autoglym Instant Tyre Dressing.

Finally, I gave the glass a wipe down with Angelwax Vision.

What pad with the S30+? I love this polish but don’t see it mentioned much around here.

Nice car!

Thanks, it's not bad for a 10 year old car 205000 km on it. Up close there's some imperfections, but you have to be real close. The pad I used was a 6" shinemate black diamond yellow medium cut, but with a very light touch. I noticed I didn't include a photo of the hood, here it is, this is with the Collinite on it as well.

Every car has some sort of imperfection up close. I know the Shinemate pad you are talking about. Based on that polish and that pad I can guess which detail store you bought it from here in Aus! I use the S30 with the Lake Country SDO orange and black pads and find that combo works good too.

If it's the store that starts with W - I'm basically funding their retirement funds!

Haha yep! As am I. I think I make an order every 2 weeks these days. Buying enough to get free shipping gets me every time!

I'm nearly every two weeks as well! :D

Cleaned my father in laws Highlander. Never been cleaned and besides a drive through wash and is used a dog hauler.

Vacuumed it all out. Used a couple brushes to get as much hair and dirt out. Then used APC then 303 on all of the interior. Cleaned the glass inside and soaked the floor mats down out side with AMMO Brute.

Exterior washed outside with Carpro Reset then Griots Surface Prep.

Dried it with Griots 3-1 spray wax as a drying aide on all the exterior.

Waiting on a new Vietnam Veteran sticker to come in and replace the peeling one here but the cars going to mainly be parked outside for the next 3 weeks until they come back to town.

Also need to learn to take better/more pictures

Was able to get a wash in yesterday. Used Strip Down followed by BH Cleanser fluid. Strip Down and Reset completely killed the remaining LSP. I then applied Hyper Seal to bare paint and it rained overnight.

It’s a shame this product has such average hydrophobic behavior because I love the look it gives and how easy it is to apply.

The rain is what interfered with the bonding of hyper seal. When I used it, it was pretty hydrophobic. It does leave a nice look.

Do you think because it was on a coating though it looked better than it really is? Optimum claims it can get wet right away but I'm not sure I believe that. It looked much more hydrophobic in your video.

I remember some discussions previously where people mentioned Opti-Seal generally looking better and being slicker to feel 12 hours after application - the thinking back then was that the additional curing time allowed all of the solvents to completely flash off and the product to cross-link and polymerize. I’m wondering if a similar process might not be in play here, given that Hyper Seal seems to be based on Opti-Seal.

Drill brush and 303 Tire & Rubber will get the brown out.

I haven't seen that in our auto shops, and it's not available from our online detailing sites. The TW cleaner I've been trying is removing lots of brown, but the size and thickness of the sidewalls I'm dealing with means it could take quite a few goes at it. I'm happy I tried, but I think I'll just be covering it now on. Thanks for the info though.

Dave.

I doubt that has any reason to why you are seeing it bead differently. I suspect it is getting wet too soon. I am sure Optimum states that but most sealants and coatings benefit from not getting wet for the first 24 hours. This includes dew as well. The other thing to consider is to panel wipe the area after those strip washes to ensure the surface is free from any surfactants. I did that on my video prior to applying it.

I hate cleaning tires. This with any tire cleaner is giing to make light work. Just can’t do the same by hand.

Got from my Amazon.

Oh, slight miscommunication, I have the brush attachments for my drill, but the 303 tire cleaner isn't available here, that I can find.

And yes, cleaning tyres is a real PITA, especially when you occasionally get them as dirty as I do. Although now that I'm working again, I haven't found the time to go off-roading for a while, I hate going on weekends when all the knuckleheads are out, they just want to go full throttle at every puddle.

Got up to 45 so I did a rinseless wash. We went to lunch with a dirty car and my wife came up to the door and acted like she wrote “wash me”. She was so wrong! I was planning to wash it anyway today but especially after she pulled that.

Before:

After:

Washed my 5th wheel, and ran out of soap on board after one side.
Picked up a bOttle of Megs wash & wax in a pinch.

Very foamy. Really decent product. I slightly feel like I’ve been stolen from all these years buying boutique soaps..
