What did you do today, in regards to detailing?

While my son was working on cleaning and extracting the interior, I cleaned up his engine bay. Sorry to make all of you guys with big engines jealous of how efficient this Prius engine and motor are. :) But hey, at least it looks good.

Used D101 as a primary cleaner. Had to use various cleaners on the orange rubber wire protector to get it fairly clean. Various APCs and degreasers, D39 rubber cleaner, etc before it finally came clean. Dressed everything with Duragloss 293 since I had the tire dressing brush handy.

Looks like those headlights are next?

And also used a chlorine dioxide treatment for the first time after he cleaned and extracted the upholstery. Thanks TTQ B4U for all the great info on getting started. Had a strong chemical smell afterwards but after a good airing out, my son says his car smells great so that’s good.

Hey man, don't let her get under your skin. If the measure of your vacation is supposed to be based on the view of others, take solace in the fact that I'm 1000% jealous of your vacation time/activities, and results!

(And I know you're comfortable that your vacation was the right thing for you, I'm just jumping on the opportunity to say I'm jealous!   )

I tried to put myself in her shoes for a second… Based on her negative and totally unnecessary waste of your time, I can only come to the conclusion that her so called “normal” and great way to spend that time off wasn’t as great as she’d wish it was or would like for you to somehow forcefully believe.

For example, this past NBA basketball season I got into it like never before, I attended more games than I ever would’ve thought prior to this year and I had an absolute blast + made some great new friends and experiences. And whenever I would speak about my experiences to friends or acquaintances, it would always result in a great conversation full of smiles to say the least…

The last thing I could imagine myself doing to anyone I know or even a casual basketball fan would be to somehow talk to them about how much they’re missing out by never making it out to watch a game live because watching on TV just isn’t the same and you’ll never understand until you experience it live the way we do at the games.

Never ever would the conversation somehow wind up like that at all. And if it did I’d have to imagine there’s gotta be some BS coming from somewhere because good times don’t come with underlying drama like that. That stupid neighbor should keep her negativity to herself. What in the world would she have have in common if that’s what she spent her time thinking to say to a neighbor when all we hope for out of neighbors is a respectful non intrusive relationship between each other.

The only thing that was unfortunate was that you didn’t have something you needed to do the moment she happened to show up. That’s usually the best way to shut someone up. You’re good.

I was actually trying to mow the lawns. She has a habit of bailing me up at just the wrong moments while I'm trying to loose myself in washing my car. You know the sort of thing, soap or chemical drying on the paint while making pointless small talk about pointless things........:nomore:

Gee, seeing this kinda makes me glad I only talk to my neighbors every 3-4 months. They have no idea what goes on in my garage and I wouldn't be surprised if some negativity came from them if they did.

Im okay with traveling but it would be a tough choice for me between that and playing with my cars for sure.

The bad interactions people have with their neighbors I find baffling. You know the sort of thing............"he always mows the lawn too early".............."their tree drops leaves on my driveway".............."his fence is too short"............. For me, when I'm at home I have no interest in knowing what the neighbors are doing, where they are going or even talking to them let along having petty arguments about trivial matters. I'm not rude to them and I generally give a friendly wave, but beyond that I like to be left alone.

That’s what it’s all about. She NEEDS those vacation to reset refresh…. We all need that.

For me though It’s not that I don’t like to travel but that no matter what I did, once I get back it’s in the past. I don’t think back on it, I don’t reminisce on pictures.

I then am mad/sad that I actually have to go back to work and my life isn’t one long vacation.

I prefer to spend that money on my cars which is my happy place. No vacations for 3 years was my choice when deciding on the wheels/suspension upgrade for my chevelle. Being able to drive it and having the way I want is my vacation.

Gonna take a week off to detail her once done….

That was/is me for the last couple of days, the dread of returning really crippled the last time I had to myself. My mother always said to me that the best thing about a vacation is the anticipation leading up to it.

And that's another thing people can't comprehend...........spending money on my car/s beyond fueling and servicing them. I always say that everyone 'something' they pour money into, be that booze, expensive trips around the world, gardening, sport...........you get the point. The idea of spending thousands of dollars on stuff to clean my car is completely idiotic to most. Those same people spend money on cases of wine or beer, to me that is more wasteful........literally when you think about where it ends up going!

A little more back story to this neighbor. I have lived next to these people for decades. He was a science and math teacher at one of the local high schools, she an emergency department triage. Both retired many years ago, and both therefore always have the time for a chat or suggesting a mid-week catch up over wine. They were both very generous people, always willing to offer help.

He sadly passed away a couple of years ago from liver cancer, most likely from his over generous consumption of red wine. He would generally always give me a wave or come over while I was detailing, he loved gadgets.

She on other hand is very good at telling me what I should be doing, where I should be going, who I should be talking to and what I should be trying. She actually took it upon herself to enroll me in a photography group once when she found out I quite liked photography, without even asking me beforehand. I managed to get out of it, but that really ticked me off. And the suggestions for mid week neighborhood get-togethers annoy the crap out of me, the last thing I want to do after being at work all day dealing with people is to spend the night making small talk. She has her heart in the right place but it gets too much sometimes.

Aren't I a nice person.

I hear where your coming from but I'd trade you a nosey neighbour than some of the in breads that live in Grandview Drive,

Their is Angry John who yells coward at me everytime he sees me in the front yard.

Then we has Stuart the local hoon that drive's 80-90 km/h in 60 zone.

And Nigel the nutter.

John has also hit my left elbow with his side mirror of his hilux when i was out for a walk, jumped out and said it was my fault even though i don't make a habit of getting hit by car's.

I completely understand where you're coming from. I'm very similar, my family sometimes call me grumpy, because they don't realise they are interupting my alone time, this doesn't include pets of course, they're always welcome.

John Cleese explained it best in his autobiography, I read it a couple of years ago. He explained that he is an introvert, and this means being around lots of people drains him, but when he's by himself, doing what he wants, it recharges him, it sounds like you're an introvert, I am as well. Extroverts are the opposite, they get drained being alone, and recharged being around other people, and they don't understand an introverts need to be alone, and will actually try to hang around to recharge themselves, very annoying.

I believe he said that the Introvert/Extrovert thing is scientifically proven, something to do with the brain releasing dopamine at different times.

Don't let them bring you down.

Sounds fantastic, I've got it pretty good here, it's a defense housing area, all air force, so it's mostly young families. The worst thing is that you have to remember to lock you car, the local teenagers will go through it if you leave it unlocked, they haven't figured out how to break into locked cars yet. It happened to my neighbours on either side, both times my dogs barked at about 2am, and I've since installed sensor lights on both sides of my car. The upside of that is I can now do basic detailing outside at night, if required.

Bingo! I am certainly an introvert and most certainly get anxious when having to speak to more than one person at a time. I just cant handle all eyes on me.........another reason why I can't make a transition from taking pics of my detailing to taking videos of it instead, I'm just too shy. I hope this doesn't get taken the wrong way, but people drain me. I am more than confident in speaking to people through text on a forum, as such I have time to consider my words and convey my point in my own time. I work in retail as well, Saturday's is our busiest day of the week with people coming at me from all directions, I always go home from that day glad that its over for another few days.

As for being grumpy............yep me too. GET OFF MY LAWN!

One day i was out vacuuming the car and he mouthed off thinking i wouldn't hear him but i did and i said what are on about should of seen the look on his face, then he hit me with his car but it was my word against his. Since then just drive's past calling me a coward some day's i just ignore him but it wears you down mentally.

I'm not someone who wants to fight or tries, but i'd love to give him a slap i have been told by his neighbour that he smoke a lot of drugs. :wowwow:

give him a talking too then back with speeding with no duty of care for other road users

So after a bad couple days of rain, especially yesterday I got a mid-week therapy session in after work today on the EN

I decided on 4 oz of Griot's Garage Foaming Surface Prep and a gallon of water in the IK Foam Pro 12 and got down to it. I pressurized the unit as normal and noticed the foam wasn't as foamy as normal but continued on. I let it dwell for a bit and rinsed down. I noticed zero dirt, even did the finger swipe down low...all good

I then grabbed the IK Foam 9 w/ Brake Buster in it (only product that's even been in there) and foamed up the rims. For the tires I used Gyeon Q2 Tire Cleaner and scrubbed everything down and rinsed off, nice and clean

I dried the EN off and then applied Griot's Garage Ceramic Speed Shine afterwards, love that stuff! I then added a very light coat of Auto-Fanatic Holeshot to the tires for a nice sheen. Lastly I vac'd my floormat as well as my daughters and gave a couple sprays of Wango Mango

Now I've got a fresh ride for work tomorrow, it's supposed to rain at some point but it's clean now and to work so that's good enough for me...you guys understand

The FNW is upon me once again

So it's been rainy and dreary the past 2 days, dried out the 2nd half of the day so I decided to do a RW on the EN this evening. Today I finished off another bottle...TW hoseless RW, old school. Now before any of you ask me let me set the record straight...NO, I did NOT use a tire brush to do this RW What did use was my trusty Aqua sponge though! I added 7 ounces of RW solution and 3.5 gallons of water, grabbed my 1000ML Kwazzer, dunked into the solution bucket and got to pre-treating. This product is so easy to use, cleans and leaves a nice finish (bring back a RW Turtle Wax) My rinse bucket was dirty, imagine doing a RW and NOT having a rinse bucket...I can't either

I then grabbed my Brake Buster, wheel & tire bucket and brushes and cleaned out the tires, wheels and wells. I let it dwell and got some dirt lifting off of the tires, as well as a little brown after scrubbing out the barrels with the Speed Master, damn that thing has some miles on it

I tried the EN after each section, dried the tires & wheels (no dressing till tomorrow so they naturally dry), vac'd out my mat as well as the others and sprayed the 3D Wango Mango on the floormats.

Now the EN is ready for tomorrow where I'll go and make my window tint appointment @ Chicago Auto Pros, then head to Xtreme Graphics where I'll be getting a couple small things done, stay "tuned"

Because I'll be putting some miles on the EN and it's going to be even nicer Sunday the EN will be getting another wash to bring it up after Saturday's all day cruizin' around. I bought a Supreme touch-free wash at the Shell station I go to and it's good for 30 days and it's getting close, so this weekend the EN will be VERY clean

I did 2 coats of Cquartz 3.0 and 1 coat SIC on my truck! Still applying the SIC, almost done and it does have a weird smell for sure lol

I see what you did there.
Yeah it's something I've been using on forums for quite some time now. Who knows, maybe I will be TUNED at some point and if so...look the F out
