What did you do today, in regards to detailing?

I gave Mum's Qashqai a wash today, time to get rid of the dirty rain spots. Cleaned the wheels with NV Purge first. Then foamed it with Carpro Lift in my Kwazar, the foam is in no way thick, but the set up is quick. I rinsed it off and gave it a 2B wash with Reset.

I decided to try Ech2o as a drying aid, with my Bowden's Big Softie, the recommended cloth when using Bowden's drying aid, After Glow. That did not work at all, it just seemed to spread the water around. I switched to a standard general purpose MF, and that worked fine.

I noticed while rinsing it off that the hydrophobicity had degraded, the water wasn't running off, and the beads were pretty flat. I'll see what happens next time I wash it, maybe put something on top.

Tap water and use dilution on the bottle. Great product!

I had some leftover from last summer. It's been stored in the basement since I switched to winter fluid. This was made using tap water. There's a good amount of stuff floating in it. Will probably switch to distilled this summer.

My SPTA foamer wasn't foaming well the last couple times I used it. They don't offer any rebuild parts so I took a look at what I had from other brands.

The marolex foaming inserts are thinner in diameter.

I dug out the inserts in the SPTA. There are 2 yellow felts in there. They're smaller in diameter and thinner than an IK insert but it seemed like it should work.

Will have to test it out to see how the foam density is.

My SPTA is pretty much dedicated to BH Touchless for now. The pump ones for any other random chemical I decide to try.

I'll report back. It was putting out really dry foam so I figured there was nothing to lose.

Since Saturday was a wash out, did the truck and quick interior and wash on the Escape today. Seems like rainy Saturdays are a trend as of late!

I've been playing more with rinseless. Still doesn't feel right and today I tried the Legacy Sponge along with DIY Detail Rinseless and Ceramic Gloss. I also mixed it up some switching between soaked Pluffle towels and the sponge. Because I have it sitting around, I also sprayed the dirtiest spots with Adam's Waterless Wash to add lubrication.

I liked using the DIY Ceramic Gloss to finish it off. That's an easy to use product. It left everything really slick, which really helped because the sponge is new to me and such an odd feeling for washing but really did work well.

Did I mention I'll only do this on the white vehicle in the family because I'm convinced if I error I won't see it?!

Try it on a dark color car in a small section. Use an inspection light or pull it in the Sun.

As long as you follow proper techniques you'll have NO problems. Pra-treating each panel is key and the solution you've made for the actual RW is more than enough

I've got the IK foamer, a Marolex and the SPTA but all 3L or less. I've also got the IK sprayer.

I've played with a few different ideas. I've done a pre-treat with some of the foaming waterless washes (3D) and still own a few more to try. That's messy but made me feel really safe when a bit dirtier.

Yesterday's attempt was not really a dirty vehicle. I used a 2BM with grit guards in each and RW in each. My wash bucket was dirty but not horrible. I was also experimenting by using Adam's Waterless ahead of the first wipes yesterday. I don't know if it's true scientifically but it felt like it added some slickness.

The sponge is just an odd feeling but I did an inspection with my light and didn't see any major new swirling or scratches. I only found some streaking actually. That Volvo Pearlescent Metallic white is extremely forgiving too.

Yeah. Overkill but I had them. So main bucket where new towels soak and the sponge was first soaking and second bucket to rinse it. Then I could dunk into first bucket again.

Used towels never went back into either bucket.

I'm guessing way overboard?!

There’s no law that says not to use grit guards. I mean if they’re already in there and ready to rock n roll, then do it to it. I wouldn’t go out of the way to put a grit guard in a bucket on a RW. I skimmed over your previous post about using soaking towels and a sponge. Why use both? Why not use one bucket of RW with your towels soaking for the contact wash and then use the other bucket for your wheels? That would be more feasible imo.

If you do weekly washes or bi-weekly (if not driving much) it doesn’t take much to keep wheels clean. I hadn’t washed my mustang in a month and I used Sonax Wheel cleaner on it. It only turned purple (iron removing color) on the lug nuts.
You can also just used mild APC to clean wheels if you wanna do it that way and have a bucket for your wheel brushes. I had only mentioned using RW on rims because I had seen a DIY Detail video of them doing it the same time they were doing their car and it came out good. But they also put their RW in a foam cannon to spray the car and rims down.

Finished off the Qashqai today. I dressed the tyres with Autoglym Instant Tyre on a Bowden's All Sorts. Then coated the external trim with Mother's Ceramic Trim Restore & Coat. I'm trying to use up some products before deciding on replacements. Still happy with the results.

I really like AG Instant Tyre Dressing, great product and waaaaay better than the sling city AG High Performance Gel.

I haven't tried the gel, but I like how the Instant Dressing applies. I just spray it onto the All Sorts and wipe it around and around till the tyre is completely coated, with a little bit of "sweat" still visible, and that gets absorbed in over the next 10 mins. Leaves a nice even sheen.
