What did you do today, in regards to detailing?

Finally had a chance to give the new ride a quick wash. Had been wanting to try Reset as a car wash for a while, got some ordered and gave it a go.

Did a round of Griot’s Foaming Surface Wash, pressure wash rinsed, and a Reset single bucket wash. The car had a weird film on it before the wash that I think was just the result of whatever touchless wash the previous owner had been using; Reset did a nice job cutting through that. Quick hit of Sonax BSD during the drying phase to give it a little something until I have time to do a proper detail.

Pardon the wheels - couple weeks ago I hit them with a pass of iron remover followed by Griot’s Foaming Surface Prep, then Sonax BSD - during this wash for time’s sake they just got the Surface Wash and pressure wash rinsed. Was impressed they came as clean as they did.

You can feel the paint has bonded contaminants, but due to time restrictions this was just a sanity wash. Looking forward to getting it all the way up to snuff.

Quick shot before I headed home, looks black in this lighting. I’ll have to get a good one soon that shows it’s brown metallic look…

Never heard of a "sanity wash" before, but I like it. Could gain a lot of traction here.

Many years ago my neighbour had a Q7, it was Phantom Black, it looked black most of the time, but in bright sunlight it changed, the metallic in it changed it. I detailed it for him a couple of times, cash jobs, it came up stunning.

"Sanity wash"...I like that, we all do these, just never called it a cool name like that.

My Jeep needs a sanity wash. Or is it my brain that needs it? Lol I think we can all relate to that term.

That 57 panel is BAD ASS! Armour Ceramic Spray Sealant has been on my radar. I’m going to try some kind of spray, in the $40 range, on my Jeep this winter. Not sure if I go the Adam’s route or Armour. Longevity is the goal over looks. Any recommendations?

Funny you mention it, The Mrs’ Q5 happens to be Phantom Black.

BH Touchless on a ver neglected Subaru. Had a hard time cutting through. Followed up with Descale which took care of it.

Descale cleans better than any soap I’ve used.

10 weeks post rotator cuff surgery, first time detailing my cars since. I detailed two cars yesterday before my arm wore out and the minivan this morning. A few muscle groups have been slack for too long! :xyxthumbs:

What ratio did you use BILT-HAMBER at? Because of their high pH level few can match their cleaning power, not that Descale is a slouch by any means!

I did a "Sanity Wash" this morning before the sun got too high and hott! I love my touch-free wash for its convience, no doubt about it but when your able to get the 2 buckets out, wheel & tire bucket and choice of soaps and wheel cleaners, well, no explanation needed here

I started with Griot's Garage wheel cleaner and 3 brushes to make them perfe t! While wet I used some of my remaining Meg's HCW @3:1 to boost them up instead of using up my Pure:est spray on, hose off or DIY Detail version. The rims bead like the car still

For the washes I started by using 4 oz of Griot's Garage Brillant Shine snow foam in their foam gun, dwell and rinse. Next was the 2BM and this time around it was Bilt-Hamber's turn and their AutoWash, best soap I've used for 2BM duty, super concentrated and finishes CLEAN

Once I dried the EN I decided to try a "new to me" product, Nv Lustre, the other half of the twins. I used said other twin, Nv Jet, a couple weeks ago and was blown away, so the bar is high here! Well I'm proud to report that Nv Lustre is THEE real deal!

I used a purple 350 GSM Eagle edgeless to apply and buff out and man is it easy and you quickly get the reward....S L I C K N E S S & G L O S S!! My God are these 2 products something else

The tires didn't need anything as I applied TWHS graphene tire dressing yesterday and as you can see the SHEEN is still there, just an impressive product, I'll always have it as long as they make it (listen Turtle Wax, don't discontinue it!!)

To my Aussie friends, thanks for talking up Nv products, you guys are lucky to get them easily and probably not as expensive as it is for us but IMO anyways, the results speak for themselves (sorry about the pic quality, the sun was doing its thing)

I went overkill. I used 3 oz in a foam cannon. Car had serious traffic film. I used my gas pressure washer too. I'm not upset by how BH performed. I wouldn't have expected any pre soak to remove the level of dirt on the paint. Descale is awesome.

It did work well though. Just needed a contact wash.

You do great work. Your car always looks fantastic.

I don't have a foam cannon for using Bilt-Hamber, I use my IK Foam Pro 12 and generally use 4-5 oz and 1 gallon of distilled water, so your 3 oz isn't overkill in a foam cannon, maybe 3 oz in a foam gun that holds 32 oz or so would be. It seems that foam cannon ratios are almost 1:1 because of how the foam cannons work but maybe someone who understands those PIR% can correct me

As far as Descale goes, I'll always have it but use it generally twice a year but in reality I could just turn up the intensity of Bilt-Hamber

While watching Premier league & college football, listening to U if M, I decided to make a gallon of Bilt-Hamber Surfex (3:1 ratio) as well as topping up my Griot's Garage wheel cleaner bottle from its gallon jug.

3 oz is not overkill and in fact it's an extremely low amount. You were using it at somewhere around 1% PIR. I've got a car coming in later for it's annual ceramic coating maintenance and I've got 12 ounces in the foam cannon which should put me somewhere between 3 and 4% PIR and that's where you want to be if the car is heavily soiled. On my personal vehicles I use around 5 to 6 oz for a light cleaning. Touchless is fantastic but it does use more product than other soaps.

Touchless and Descale are my favorite one-two punch for reviving a coating.

After the +30 day wait period post glitter squeeze job, i paint corrected and sealed the paint with armour detail supply ceramic spray sealant. The entire bed was in need more agressive means to remove the defects since it had bad water pots etched i to paint, and some deeper scratches. The fender along with the front half of truck ,which i gave a b4 and after pic...was not as bad as bed.

Side note, i may have planted a bug in this owners head to up his game on products and wash techniques, and converting him to rinsless washes. He has never heard of it before, and wants to learn more about it so he can keep his pickup squirrel free. He asked for recomendations on products on all areas of our obsessive detail world.

One question i will ask is...for those that use griots brilliant finish soap...whats your thoughts on it? He said he uses that currently, in foam cannon and bucket wash. Ive never used it so i couldnt comment.

I used Griot's Garage Brillant Shine snow foam today actually, solid choice for maintence usage in the foam gun, never used in the bucket but I can't see it being bad there either.

Took things light this weekend. Just a simple annual ceramic coating maintenance wash but this car is significant. It belongs to my first customer after my training and when I decided to go all in and do this professionally. I have a tendency to second guess the quality of my work but this car reassured me that I’m doing things right. It was a two year coating and a year later it’s still beading like the coating was applied yesterday. I just wish all of my customers would maintain their vehicles like this owner.

Two weeks after every coating I bring my customers back in for a wash tutorial. I show them how to wash the same way I do and exactly what products to use and send them on their way with a few goodies to get them started. He just happens to be one of the very few that actually understands that the coating has to be maintained and is willing to protect his investment.
