What did you do today, in regards to detailing?

Not detailing myself related but went to Wally’s world to grab a tire depth gauge.

There was a guy in the detail isle looking at Cerakote spray sealant and a TW product. Just minded my business and went to find my gauge.

Came back guy was still looking/Reading backs of both.

I said both great products but I’d go with the Cerakote I’m a fan of there products.

He said great! Can I ask you a question. He kept he’s distance (I think social distancing).

Of course. Apparently his car got stolen and the thief tried to change vins so he could keep it. He ended up getting it back but with ALOT of minor swirls on trunk.

Told him neither of those would fix those you’d have to polish. Ha asked about glaze with fillers but none were there and he was hoping for permanent fix.

Told him to check out a pro and he said cost to much and if he couldn’t fix himself he deal. Was gonna offer to do myself but he didn’t want that (nice guy guessing he didn’t want to bother me).

Expained what to do and what would work at Wal mart he left with some Megs scratch X, MF applicators, MF towels and the knowledge to start light and do 2x2 section till he gets the results he likes.

He was so happy and appreciative to ran into me he broke his bubble to give me a heart felt handshake…. Felt good.

Modifying things can surely be fun.
 
Ran the EN through the touch-free wash after work, it sat all day yesterday where it was all rainy, so just making it nice once again

I must say the DIY Detail Ceramic Gloss and Nv combo are holding their own in the G L O S S department, not to mention self-cleaning abilities

When does your car get a chance to self clean? :laughing:

Wash time for the FJ today, I needed to remove a few bird bombs, and there's some hot days on the way. I was going to foam it, but it was too hot and sunny even today.

So I just used the pressure washer to rinse it, cleaned the tyres with some TW Wheel and Tire Cleaner I found on the back of the shelf, note this wasn't Hyper Foam, it was the one in the green bottle, smells less potent, but still got plenty of the brown out.

Then I moved it back inside and gave it a 2B wash with Reset. I noticed the roof no longer seemed to have any protection left, no beading at all on the white horizontal surfaces, but the vertical white surfaces weren't too bad. It has been just on 6 months since I polished the roof and applied NV Lustre and Jet, and it's been outside 24/7.

After the wash I moved it back outside and power rinsed it again, still no beading on the roof, so it wasn't clogged, just gone. Moved it back inside and dried it with TWHS Ceramic Wet Wax, to give it some protection till I put something longer lasting on it.

Finished up by cleaning the glass with Krystal Klear Bubble Gum Blitz, and took the wipers off and cleaned the blades with 303 Aerospace Protectant, these Bosch blades are now almost 18 months old and still good, as long as I keep up the basic maintenance on them.

Almost SIXTY DEGREES on Dec 8th...WOW️

After work I hit the touch-free wash and headed straight home for the drying/drying aid process. The drying aid is actually a mix of Griot's Garage CSS & leftover DIY Detail WW and it worked great

I then addresses the tires & wheelwells because I had dirt on the shoulder of the p/s Michelin X-Ice and some in the well itself. For this I grabbed my Gyeon Q2M tire cleaner and sprayed down all 4 tires & wheelwells, let sit for a bit and simply swiped them clean. To finish things off I used the same mix I used on the EN on its wheel faces, again, came out very nice

The winter sun is going down and I think I'm going to apply "something" to the Michelins

So I used a brand new bottle of Turtle Wax Graphene Acrylic tire Shine spray coating on the Michelins. This is my 3rd bottle since it came out and although happy with the looks it seems a little more "thin", has anyone else noticed a slight difference in the consistency

The FJ was a little dusty inside, so I gave it a quick going over with my new Carpro interior detailing brush, which I really like, very soft and great for vents. Then a wipe down with TWHS Inside Job, love that scent. I doubt anything else will get done today, 91 at 9:30, and we're now expecting 108 by mid afternoon.

I usually convert it for you guys, in this case I just hit the E/M button on the gauge. I also use hood instead of bonnet and trunk instead of boot. The one I can't remember is if you use windscreen or windshield. And I still use tyres instead of tires, but that's an autocorrect thing.

I just looked it up, curiosity got the better of me, as at 2020, only 3 countries still officially use the fahrenheit scale, the US, Liberia, and Myanmar. I was sure there would have been more.

You know I just like to tease you Aussies, I give you a lot of credit for not falling off the bottom of the world. I'm on another subject matter forum, and one of the members there always posts his units (temp, weight, size) in both Imperial and Metric.

I don't know about Liberia and Myanmar, but we gave it a go here in the 70's at converting to metric, there was a huge backlash and about the only thing that the conversion stuck to was soda bottles and automotive fasteners. And I guess olive oil. You guys have quite an olive oil business down there, don't you?

Australia is generally a country of teasers, but I'm also from a family of teasers, I grew up with it, a sink or swim type thing. Sometimes I have to pull it back a bit, younger generations don't get it sometimes.

I have to advise people sometimes, if we're screwing with you, or giving you unwanted nicknames, it's because we like you, and we definitely expect it in return.

A few years before I was born, Australia switched from pounds, shillings, and pence to dollars and cents, so much easier to work out, much more logical, I suppose we have to thank you for that one.

You didn't answer about the olive oil, unless you thought I was yanking your chain--we have the Cobram Estates here in the US, it's supposed to be very good, I don't remember if I've tried it. I usually stick with California Olive Ranch; do they send that down to Australia?

EDIT: Ha ha, I think maybe the Cobram stuff we have here is actually grown in California--it would be funny if you have California Olive Ranch oil down there, that's grown in Australia.

We do make some of the best olive oils, so the internet tells me, and a lot of other food goods as well, due to migrant farmers arriving over the last 150 years, but we're having some trouble with the European Union wanting to control what we can label them as. If a product has a geographical name in its product name, like Parmesan Cheese or Champagne, you can't call it that if it's not from that region, even though that's what the product is.

Also, found this in the pantry.

So today was my g/f's Cruze's turn for a wash. I used a new pre-wash soap in the IK Foam Pro 12...Pure:est alkaline snow foam. This has a pH of 11 or 12 and I'll tell you this...WORKED GREAT

I added 3 oz to 1 gallon of distilled water, the usual mix for a higher pH pre-wash and I must say it did GREAT considering it went through a touch-free wash. I had to drag my finger across the very bottom to detect a layer of traffic film AFTER the wash, VERY impressive because her Cruze isn't coated AND was a weeks dirty

This stuff smelled like a men's cologne while foaming her car and I swear I could smell it when I got home! Once home I noticed how clean her Continentals were, same with the rims too, so I added a coat of TWHS Acrylic + Graphene tire dressing to finish it off

Tomorrow I'll be taking the EN for its wash and using the same product, REALLY liking this, nice to have options/extra pre-wash soaps when the car needs a stronger pre-wash and/or you wanna reset the surface of a coated car
