What did you do today, in regards to detailing?

I know and you’re exactly right because he seemed like exactly 1 of those guys. Expensive cars but expects them done cheap and probably picky as hell.

Meanwhile I’m thinking let me dial each car in perfectly then maintenance will be a breeze but trust me it’ll be so worth it and your cars will be perfect at all times… But I doubt he would’ve had to patience to see that vision.

I still have his number. Maybe I’ll try and call him again someday and talk some sense into him. Lol

For your own mental health, I would urge you to not go there!

I "fired" my biggest client in 2020. For 15 years I had been maintaining up to 6 properties for one of the richest families in Australia, lawns at two commercial properties and lawn and gardens at 4 residences. For the most part, I was left to get on with the job and I would charge very conservative figures for what I was doing. The grandmother was hard work but sweet, the son grateful for my efforts. The father on the other hand could be terrifying, but again, generally left me to do what needed doing.............. apart from calling me after hours and on weekends. When Covid hit and the lockdowns started, suddenly the old man had a lot of time on his hands and nowhere to go.

Mid 2020, he started to question my prices, told me that what I was doing wasn't "rocket science" and that I needed to cut my prices because of the economic climate brought on by Covid lockdowns. While this guy was extremely wealthy, I NEVER ripped him off, I just did my job, often over and above what was required. The biggest insult was the "not rocket science" thing, belittling my chosen profession and making me ashamed at asking for money in trade of my experience, knowledge and hard work. I suggested he could find someone else, but no no no, I just had to control my prices. All of the above took place outside of his newly completed multi-million-dollar mansion with Greek goddess statues and gold leaf pillars and fleet of Rolls Royce and Bentley's in the garage. To suggest he was short of a quid because of Covid was jaw dropping.

I persisted till the end of 2020 and decided I didn't want to start 2021 having to worry about him anymore. I politely and quietly resigned with some protest from his wife and son, she knew what was going on because she would come out on and slip me some cash on the quiet to "buy some lunch". His son later found out why I left, and has tried to get me back a few times, but I won't be subjecting myself to that again. I dare say he now knows how little he was paying me for my services.

I say all this knowing that sometimes the rich are the tightest people on the planet, often coming across as if they are entitled to be arrogant, demanding and downright rude because of their wealth. That its ok for them to earn a healthy living, but certainly not you. As such, I say avoid those seemingly lucrative jobs, they are not worth the mind-fu.k.

On the flip side, for years I detailed a wealthy man's Mercedes and he was always very gracious. Never questioned my fee and in fact, gave me a 100% tip! I had to stop working for him when I moved and I felt so bad to hear he recently died
Not all wealthy people are stingy and arrogant. It's a negative stereotype.

Decided to get outside and enjoy this mid 50 degree weather this morning...LET'S GO

Started by using Griot's Garage wheel cleaner and my 4 brushes to clean the winter tires & wheels (6 days till they come off)

Next I had the IK Foam Pro 12 loaded with 4 oz of Bilt-Hamber Touchless and a gallon of distilled water and just did a foam/dwell/rinse/ dry. For a drying aid I used an old mix of DPC spray wax (so much stuff to use up)

Later on I'll be doing a "boost check" on my new N75 Stage 1 tuned ECU

Are we ever going to have a decent Saturday in PA? Knew they were calling for rain. But against my better judgment did the Maintenace wash on the truck. As i was finishing the light rain came. Finished drying it, dressed the tires and called it good. Is what it is. Not going to move for 2 days, so it should stay clean. Typical PA spring weather. 4 months of rain. 1 month of summer. Then back to fall. LOL.

Finally finished her!

One of my first customers, and friend, finally came back so that I could show him how to wash his car with a foam cannon. He’s been doing RW but I told him that at some point he was going to have to break out a good soap since he doesn’t wash frequently enough to get the most from his coating. I was pleased to see that it’s been 18 months and the coating is still doing great. I ordered him a bottle of Reset and now he’s well on his way to making that coating last. He even threw me a $50 tip when this wash was on the house.

Took the g/f's Cruze to the touch-free wash this morning, even though it's going to rain

I used 3 oz og Griot's Garage Brillant Shine snow foam and 2 oz of Griot's Garage Foaming Surface Wash as the pre-wash, her car was pretty dirty and even though it's not perfect that combo did a pretty good job, just the lower panels have traffic film visible

The weather is going to suck over the next 3 days, getting the IK Foam Pro 12 loaded up with Bilt-Hamber Touchless shortly

Wash time for the FJ, a quick one though, it's just a little dusty.

Cleaned the wheels with the new formula Bowden's Wheely Clean, which cleans just as good as the old formula, but scent isn't as obnoxious, it is still very strong though.

I used the leftover Meg's Gold Class in my foam cannon from my brother's SUV last weekend to foam it up. It came out thicker this time, but I still had enough to get around the FJ completely, including up in the wheel wells. Rinsed it with the Ryobi pressure washer, the Gold Class worked fine, removed all the dust, and the bird bomb on the drivers door.

It was warm outside so I moved it back inside for drying, glided my big Gyeon twisted loop towel over and it sucked up all the moisture, dried in the door jambs and wheels with a trusty old synthetic chamois.

I also gave it a fresh coating of NV Boost V2, even in the door jambs, why not.

Finished off by putting some TWHS Ceramic Wet Wax on the wheels, and topping up the Meg's Hyper Dressing on the tyres, although the tyres just seem to eat the Meg's HD right up.

All up the wash and dry took me less than an hour, topping up the Boost V2 on and doing the wheels and tyres added another hour and a half.

I really had no intention of working on a car today but my wife got back from another trip to Alabama last night. When I went into the garage today and saw that she had hit every bug on her way home I knew I had to get to work. I don’t let bugs and bird bombs to sit on my paint.

I pretreated the bugs with a nice dose of Auto Foam and you can see how it started dissolving them just as good as any dedicated bug remover.

CarPro Darkside is still going strong after over 1,000 miles since application. I did top off with Adam’s graphene dressing just for that little extra pop.

This is why I like coatings. 45 minutes and the SUV was cleaned and protected.

I'm thoroughly convinced the SO seeks out puddles, other people's windshield washer fluid, mud, salt, etc. Thankfully bugs aren't a thing for Colorado but how do they manage it? 5 miles or 500 miles... consider my previous weekend's efforts ruined.

I need parking stripes and a tire stop like you

I was going to do the tennis ball trick but I really need to back the new car in so I can open the lift gate with the garage door closed

When I put it in reverse the side mirrors automatically point downward so seeing the lines would be easy

I don't trust the back up camera and parking sensors, the screen looks and sounds like a pinball machine when I get close to what's behind me and it's distracting
