I definetly understand and get it now when I see your daily detailing and the "he has a different product today? How many does he have?"
If you stopped buying product today but kept the routine up, your daughter would have products when she begins driving:autowash:

First of all, Klasse, thank you for not making me feel so bad about my endless collection, at least you put yours to regular use. I didn't see your microfiber collection--that seems to be my weak spot.

I can fall into the same catagory. Friends shake their heads when they see stuff I have. But I chuckle, it's more 'hobby' for me than business. And I think I can say it's the same for you and alot of us on here, hobby and mental peace. Even with the collection I have, I see other pasttimes and don't feel so bad for output $$$ - golf, fishing, atv/dirtbike/sled, drinking, etc:D
We all need outlets, this is a pretty good one, harmless, productive, and when others benefit from it they sure are happy.
And like hobbiests or collectors, when a new 'product/tool/toy/etc comes out, we just wanna try it.:buffing:

Yeah, but...I wish there hadn't been so many things I wanted to try...

That stuffs been out for a while, at least 2018.

I wasn’t a fan of old stuff but I think they did a 2.0 that made it a nice product.

Slick and slide is suppose to be the same product as Obsessed Garage Drying Aid (obsessed doesn’t have color or scent added).

DFB seems to be a fan of the ODA so I decided to try slick and slide. I like it as well as the wet wax.

I just finished my bottle of Slick-n-Slide, sadly the local distributor has stopping importing it.

Ethos Pro-Shine shares the same basic formula of Slick-n-Slide, Xtreme Solutions Topper and OG Drying Aid. Both the Adams and Ethos have intoxicating scents, but the colorant tends to stain. The OG version lacks the scent and color, as a result it seems to be more stable and wipes off easier. All of them being polymer sealants, they are supremely slick and offer a warmer tone than the Si02 equivalents.

I finally had a day with decent conditions and enough time to do my first deep cleaning on the new car

It was 53 degrees, 70% humidity, and solid cloud cover with very little breeze

I got everything out and staged and only forgot a couple of minor items I had to scramble to locate

I got my IK with BH AF and refill jug, my MTM cannon with Megs HW and refill jug (forgot to grab the funnel), my boars hair brush and heavy HW spray bottle, and I set up my soap bucket with 3 oz HW and 4 gallons of water and my dirty mitt bucket on my twin dolly

I started the soap bucket with the 4 new Detail Popo fuzzy pads and quickly learned you have to really squeeze them underwater to get the foam block in the middle to soak through. It is awesome how much soapy water they carry from the bucket to the car if you don’t wring them out. It took a few minutes to get them dialed in to my process but for big flat panels they are AWESOME. My noodle mitts are still best for complicated contours and grills and such but the 2 types together were a killer combo. I also still use those old blue microfiber mitts as well and really like them for windows and trim

I laid down a layer of BH AF and let it dwell, and I have to admit that running back and forth to the air hose to pump the IK2 up sucked big time. I admit now that I need a IK12. I laid on the AF extra heavy on the grill and back end and let it dwell and followed it up with HW in the MTM cannon, letting that dwell as well

went into my contact wash, switching media often, and used all 14 of my mitts and pads

This car is huge

I did a top down rinse and the front grille is a bear to get rinsed, it just keeps bleeding suds. The beading was just so so and I remember right after I got it it beaded great so I think my many trips through the tunnel wash have built up way too much of that damn foam “polish”, and I am pretty sure I need to do an acid and alkaline DEEP clean to really get the ceramic back to full capability

I blew it dry with my Ego and never even got a drying towel out, it actually blew off pretty easily

I could not have done this car without the step ladders, and I am 5’11”

Then it was time to go mad scientist so I broke out the “toppers/drying aids” I have on hand and tried all 7 on different panels. Right off the bat, the Suds Lab felt like spraying and wiping distilled water, I couldn’t tell if it did anything. It had zero “body” to it. It may do something but as I said, it didn’t feel like I actually applied anything. Several of the others went on a bit grabby but at 70% humidity that’s understandable. OCW and Bead it Up felt the slickest, and the others acted about as you would expect. I will keep an eye on the hydrophobics and see how they fare over the next few weeks

I wanted to add that NONE of them felt “nice” on the PPF, they were all a bit grabby but PPF is new to me so I don’t know what to expect

A silver gray car on a gray day is certainly not going to win any reflection awards but I think it came out well

I completely forgot until I was half way through that I had intended to try my new NV Snow and Snow+ soaps in the cannon and bucket

I am not sure what is going on but the last gallon of Hyper Wash I picked up doesn't seem to have the "kick" the previous gallon had, it doesn't suds near as well and doesn't feel as slick under the mitt

Snow and Snow+ are outstanding products

After much deliberation and looking at other detailer's offerings, I've decided to drop my wash clay and seal from my website and bump it up to an AIO polish or gloss enhancement followed by a ceramic sealant.

I received a call from a woman wanting an exterior detail on her F350 Dually and this thing is damn near a semi-truck. I told her a wash, clay and seal would be $200 just throwing out what I thought was a fair price. May has been a busy month so I wasn't going to do the job but wanted to see what she thought. She was quite nice but said that was more than she was looking to pay as she had this service done right after COVID for around $175. For a vehicle that size and for that service she's easily looking at $250+ from anyone else in the 2024 market. That's when I decided that I don't want to attract frugal customers. I'm gonna focus on people that enjoy their vehicles and want them properly detailed. Cheap isn't good and good isn't cheap.

When I was running a bicycle shop for another guy many years ago I made the mistake of taking pity on a few people and doing a few jobs basically for the cost of parts and materials and that didn't end well, it brought the frugal people out of the woodwork

The worst part is many of the frugal people were well off and got that way by pinching every penny and wheedling and bargaining on every deal they ever made and I soon learned to just say no, stick to my prices, and get on with business

Wow, $200 for wash/clay/seal on just a regular sedan sounds like a steal to me (for the customer!). Only $175 for an F350 is working for free. I don't wish any ill will towards that lady but I imagine she will discover the false economy of her choices sooner rather than later (and it will cost way more than $175 to fix right).

I think this is why frugal people never win a lotto!

In a somewhat related story, keeping it general to mask everything but the life lesson ...from a phone conversation:

Employee to 'overaged executive' who is very well-off: If I had your money, I would be retired and living-up life somewhere by now!
'Overaged executive' that is very well-off: That is why you will never have my kind of money. :wowwow:

Extremely harsh but in a weird way, it makes you stop and think.

It's ironic. Right after that phone call I had a prospective customer come by that wanted a coating. In my reply to his email I explicitly stated that a one layer (Mohs) coating is $850. That includes a complimentary window coating as well as a $100 credit for supplies that he can get from me at wholesale cost. A two coating system (CSL + EXOv5) is $1100. It's right there in the damn email and these prices are beyond reasonable.

He talked to me for a good 75 minutes because he wanted to know all of the ins and outs of a coating and how he could benefit from it. I even demonstrated using my wife's car and he left. I contacted him today to see if he wanted to proceed. He thanked me for my time and answering all of his questions and said that he would love to proceed but he only had a budget of $500. If he knew his budget was so limited why the hell did he waste my time knowing damn well he couldn't afford it? I was hesitant to raise my prices but not any more. Gotta weed out the people that have no problem wasting my time.

I honestly think people like this feel that once YOU have invested so much time in thinking about the prospective job, explaining the job, and just expending mental energy to get the job, you would rather cave and meet their budget than write off your wasted time

It may be harsh to some people but it is reality

It is kind of like my kids thinking that they should have, in their late 30s and early 40s, exactly what my wife and I have after a lifetime of work, scrimping, saving etc

I NEVER looked at what my parents had and expected to have the same things without busting my ass to get to their position
