What did you do today, in regards to detailing?

It’s quite a capable cleaner but I’m not sure if I would buy it again

The smell was initially very strange to me but tolerable, but as I continue to use it the smell has become off putting

It has begun to remind me of a dirty ash tray

I know that sounds weird but it is what it is

Could the ash try smell be coming from that pack that you smoked through to calm yourself after the coffee disaster? Haha

I am actually proud of myself for not losing it when it happened

DFB first described Pilot as having a "cologne" smell and I guess that could be accurate, way more chemically than fruity

I grew up in a house of smokers and I am highly sensitive to that smell

It is such a nice cleaner and leaves the best finish on my various Lexus surfaces but it just smells bad TO ME

Now, having said that, the smell doesn't stick around and by the next day it has dissipated, but still, we place a high value on "user experience" and using it is not pleasant TO ME

I don't care for the smell of Amplify or Adapt either, although Tire+ smells delicious

ADS Hero and Shampoo+ aren't particularly pleasing smells but aren't off putting and by the time they are diluted they cease to smell at all to me

I can beat that. This past May my wife bought a brand new Honda Sport Touring CRV.
We picked it up on a Monday. I drove it from the dealer to my house and my wife drove her Accord as we didn’t trade it in.
When I got in it the Odometer said 2 miles. I drove it to my house and when I got there the Odometer was up to 18 miles.
Couple hours later the wife said she wanted to take her new car for a ride which she did.
The next day, Tuesday the CRV sat in the driveway all day.
Wednesday mourning I go out to wash the CRV and get some protection on it. As I’m looking over the car I can see that it was driven through wet yellow road line paint. All over the drivers front and rear wheel wells and all down the drivers side.
I calmly called my wife down to her car and pointed out all the yellow paint everywhere. She says “must have been like that at the dealer”. Which I assured her it was not. Later that day she told me she saw a very nearby road/intersection that had fresh line paint smeared all over the road.
I did not freak out which is unusual. My wife has a long history of similar events with her cars.

Edge got a DIY spray followed by quick rinseless. I was rushing the wash so there are drip trails all over. My plan is to do same for Explorer tomorrow.

Also swapped my winter wheels on....even though it's currently 51F here. Supposed to get cold again this week, so warm is short lived.

10 DAYS SINCE THE EN's LAST WASH...ENDED TODAY

It was partly sunny and 45 today, so I got after it! In my effort to use up that Griot's Garage Brillant Shine rinseless wash bottle I chose IT today and it did a GREAT job! You'll notice in the "before & after" pics of the bucket caddy that the EN wasn't too dirty but hey, 10 days is 10 days

Once I was done with the car I used a designated grout sponge to properly clean the Michelin X-Ice's, wheel faces & spokes, along with the engine bay bits, came out great

I finished with a vac of the interior and ADS Pilot wipe down of the entire interior (sans the front WeatherTechs) For me, ADS Pilot is a joy to use, no issues and it finishes out almost immediately, even on a cooler day like today

It's supposed to be closer to 50 tomorrow, might have to go out for a "Deyon-esque" drive

Your second co-pilot doesn't get strapped in and has to hold on with her claws? I guess really those are your second and third co-pilots.

LOL

Not sure how long those co-pilots will stay in the car, they remind me of when my daughter was little and rode in the back, she'll be 9 next Sunday and I just can't quite remove them yet

The boss has a driver's license but I bet she hasn't put 1,000 miles total on all our various vehicles in the last couple of decades

Makes it hard to blame stuff on her

I have often wondered what a single drop of various essential oils would do to a bottle of detailing product

Meg's Quick Interior Detailer has a fairly neutral scent and I though a drop of something citrus might perk it up

Probably not a good idea from a chemical standpoint though

They grow up fast, so hold on to what you can.

What did I do detailing related today? I threw out bottles of Meg's #9, #26 liquid, and Medallion Premium Paint Protection (MPPP). That joins quarts of 80, 82, and 83 that I threw out last week. In order to do it, I had to keep saying to myself "when would you use these instead of something else that you have?" In my defense the #26 was almost empty, and the rest of them all have the "trade secret oils" etc. and stain trim like a mofo if I remember correctly.

They were all about 20 years old except for the #26 liquid which could have been 10-15 years older than that, unless that was my second bottle. I so far kept my #81 Hand Polish, which doesn't sound as runny as some of the others, but that might be because it's so full. Maybe next week.

But products have scents...so they must have ones that are chemically inert...although as I'm typing that maybe that is a big deal to pick the right scent that won't get affected by the chemical and won't affect the chemical.

OMG...Medallion from Mequiars, I had both of them and IIRC wasn't one a polish and one an LSP, green label for one and red for the other

Medallion makes me think of when my older girls were closer to Kendall's age, it's memory lane right now

I couldn't avoid it... tired of being lazy with cars so the 60 degree weather made me get out there. There's snow from weeks ago in the shady areas but 60 degrees in the sun. Perfect day.

I used it as a ceramic touch-up day. I didn't need it but I've got a little ceramic overload issue going on in my basement so why not. Did a wash, decon, wash again... tried a new blower (should have grabbed one years ago - not perfect but sure helps speed that step up), prep spray and then laid down some excess coating. In no way do I expect it to be 2-3yrs durable but I figure I can't hurt anything and the bottle needs used up. I guess I'm creating a "topper"? I added it to the high traffic areas and the wheel face.

I finished with Labocosmetica Nero on the tires. Curious how this gel holds up but I like the scent and final look.

Now if we ever get real snow I'll at least feel protected

Oh, I didn't realize you had more kids. I threw out the MPPP, I kept the MPPC (Medallion Premium Paint Cleaner), along with Deep Crystal, and another Meg's paint cleaner. Those solventy ones were always good for removing house paint transfers, although I haven't had to do that in a long time, that was mostly reserved for my mother and mother-in-law's cars.

PS I have my bottle of Medallion Leather something-or-other, none of these have I used in ages. The bottles are starting to suck in, which I presume is due to the solvents diffusing through the plastic.

Absolutely, would have to be inert

I have no idea if essential oils are actually "oils" or something else and I doubt they would play well

Here is my current interior selection and is in order from best smell to worst, left to right

My all time favorite was Einzett Cockpit, and I have yet to try the Nexzett version

That crisp citrus smell set the benchmark for what an interior product should smell like, at least in my opinion

I wouldn't have any hesitation with Nextzett, presuming you can get it up there. I think the only thing I have bought since Nextzett was ClimaClean, but it was unchanged.

It'll be at the front of the line now! I took a lot of time off around the holidays so that's going to be my time to go for it (if the weather plays nice this year)
