I gave the FJ a wash today. It was an in and out wash again due to the heat. Used Wheely Clean on the wheels, barely any bleeding, as expected. 2B wash with Reset for everything else. The after wash rinse showed better beading on the trim than the paint. Dried with my extra large silk drying towel. I thought I'd put some actual wax on it, to give some better protection than the spray waxes I've been playing with. I went with Collinite 845, we hit 30C/86f today, so it was very liquid. After applying it I had to help someone out, so I didn't get to buff it for over an hour. On the silver paint it was no issue, but the single stage white roof was a real PITA to buff off, it really didn't like the delay. I ended up using some QD to moisten the towel, which worked, but still gave me a good work out. Next time I might just go with Collinite on the silver, and go with NV Lustre and Jet on the roof.

The FJ looks awesome!

I’m going to clean the dash and door panels on my vehicle with Griots interior cleaner.

Last wash of 2024

Today's wash is brought to you by Griot's Garage Brillant Shine rinseless wash, the bottle is almost done, great pure wash and hopefully it's replacement equals or surpasses it's performance

The last wash was days ago but as you can see it DID pull dirt off of the EN's coated paint

The temps were 40 and sunny, the Gauntlet towel did a great job drying, no issues and as as you can see the ADS Ghost Tire Coating is holding up great, untouched since being freshly applied 2 weeks ago

On a side note, I tried to go to The Bays today to use my last hour for the month of December but they're closed on Monday's, might not be able to roll that hour over to January, oh well, January starts a fresh 3 monthes and speaking of that, my g/f & I will doing that mini-detail THIS Saturday...stay "tuned"

Looking sharp Roger, nice and glossy.

I used the Optimum Hyper-foam yesterday in the IK foam pro12. At first I pumped by hand and not too long after plugged the compressor in.
I used 11 pumps from a Meguiars gallon dispenser pump, I believe that would be around 1 less ounce than called for at the 6 mark.
Either way it put out some thick clingy foam.

I rinsed it with McKees N914 in a garden sprayer. It took 2 1/2 fills to rid most of the foam from the surface.
This product does that encapsulating thing really well in foam form.
This is a keeper.
I never really was a fan of Blue ONR, it always felt grabby and not slippery or smooth.

First 2 pics are what I started with, then some foam with dirt, then the tailgate after rinsing then the final result.
I used Ech20 to do the rinseless with 7 TRC Eagle edgeless towels. Drying was done with 4 or 5, 16 x 16 Cobra super plush purple towels.

Today I polished the headlights with a TufBuf wool pad
/ Meguiars 100 on the 3401 and followed with a LC white Force with Essence.
I applied 4 coats of CarPro D light.

It is a 2013 X1, 35i with Mhd/XHP, H&R lowered on Bilstien B6s and some winter ws90 wheels.
I like it because its small and quick. Always thought these things were hideous but it has grown on me. Looks better with the summer wheels

Good result, another glutton for punishment with black paint I see. It seems almost counterintuitive to lower a vehicle that's designed to be taller than a traditional wagon, but it does look good, can't wait to see it on the summer rims. There's a couple of "tall but lowered" wagons in my area, one is a lowered Subaru Forester with a sports exhaust and fat wheels. The other is a Skoda Yeti, which is just bizarre as they usually only have a 1.3L 4 cylinder in them, but this guy has gone the full Whiteline suspension upgrade and what look like 19" white rims, and it looks good. I've also seen a lowered Ford Territory which looked a bit wrong.

Wow, I like your garage. Is that an opener mounted on the side/edge of the door?
Yes, the motor? That's for the single stall. The ceiling is 9 and a half feet.
Good to see you around these parts yet. I always liked reading your posts and comments.
I finally gave the forum a look after being off for 2 weeks during Christmas.
Doing the yearly holiday season sales shopping makes me want to check what everyone else is doing.
Seems like everyone has retired except Roger. He will be here forever:)

I did a Whiteline swaybar upgrade and subframe inserts along with all new bushings and control arms in the rear this past summer. What an unbelievable difference it makes
Summer wheels are Apex ARC8 in anthracite, wider and more sidewall to fill the gap more.
I go skinny in winter and Fluid film on the exposed metal underneath the car

I do have to polish and recoat this summer. It has 2 year old UK3 and SiC topping.
But.......after I did the job I let it sit in the garage for 2 weeks and drove my 535 for awhile and the Monday I took it to work I got hit by 4500 dollar hail damage. Oh the freaking irony, they said ceramic coatings would protect against that and fire and car crashes and mean x girlfriends and door dings.
They did an excellent PDR job but they didn't pay much mind to jean scuffs and other abrades. I think they might have used some polish in areas to hide scuffs in spots. I redid a few spots but didnt have it in me to redo the whole thing.
I hit it with a Hydro2 foam wash every once in awhile which works really good.

I just bought a Rupes rotary so I am going to use that to apply Essence with a finishing pad this summer. Hopefully I don't need anything else for those scuffs and swirls.
I know it will bite through the coating.
I know that Essence on a white LC Force and the Flex3401 kicks ass to get superficial marring so I think I have a solid game plan.

Nice wheel choice.

I also got some hail damage this year, but it only left 4 or 5 tiny dents on the roof, and since you'd have to climb up to see them, I didn't bother fixing them, also it's a white roof so they're hard to see.

I used Essence on both our vehicles earlier this year, I really liked it, very easy to work with, I can't remember which pads I used, but it was different for each vehicle.

This was a bit of a surprise detail. Last week I did some wet sanding on a Hyundai that had been sideswiped and had some paint transfer. While talking with the driver’s parents they mentioned that she lives near the beach and they were worried about the ocean mist damaging her paint because of the salt. I told them, like I offer to all customers, that their daughter could come back and I’d show her how to do a RW and protect her car. This teenager, unlike my ceramic coating customers, actually came back and brought her friend. I guess she didn’t want to wash her vehicle alone with some creepy old man she didn’t know.

It rained a bit over the last week so I figured her SUV would have a little dirt along the bottom panels but nothing too serious which would be the perfect level of filth to do a RW on. She showed up in her friend’s car instead that was covered in a thick layer of filth and black grime that was packed into every crack and crevice. Just to give you an idea this is the dried residue of what come off of the car. This is not dirt but looks more like soot which it may be since she goes to college in the mountains and we do have a few coal mines in the Appalachian.

After bathing in Touch-Less, followed by a liberal amount of Adam’s iron remover (every inch of the car was purple) and then another bath of Descale we finally got it to the point of being ready for a RW. Gyeon Eco Wash for the contact wash, Perl on the tires and Cure for a little paint protection and the car doesn’t look a day over 18 years old. Once we were finished the friend asked if there was anything that could be done to help with the headlights. Remembering what it was like to be a poor college student, I told her to drop her car off and I’d resurface her headlights if she paid for the supplies. I think they look a little better and she may actually be able to see the road at night.

Hey Optimus, that dry "soot", first of all, how did you get that off, second where did that come from, atmospherically, or thrown up off the road, I don't understand. I mean was that in the wheel wells, sill around the trunk, etc.

PS Tell us what you used on the headlights, and if you have special eyelash polish.

I have no clue where the soot originated from but the majority of it came from the wheel wells and carpeting in the rear wheel wells but it was pouring out of damn near every seam. I got up close and personal with my pressure washer wand and went to town. It was probably the longest rinsing of a car I’ve ever worked on. I’ve seen dirt fall off of paint after smothering it with Auto-Foam but this stuff was pure black. She attends a small college in the rural mountains of NC so I’m assuming it coal ash but I could very well be wrong. I wish I could tell you more but I was expecting a black, mildly dirty 2017 Tucson.

I wet sanded with 800, 1000, 2000 and 3000 grit sandpaper and coated with Meguiar’s headlight coating. I told her to come back tomorrow after the coating has cured and I’ll put a ceramic coating over the Meguiar’s to give those 18 year old headlights as much protection as possible. I was all out of my Maybeline car polish but I did help her reattach the spoiler she took from a model car that is attached to the trunk lid. The car has a lot of personality to say the least.

Tomorrow I get to pressure wash my driveway because it’s about three shades darker now.
