What did you do today non-detailing related?

Kinda detailing related... fresh, clean parts washer solvent.

Re: Installed some Conti DWS06's on the RedSport

Oil change and tire rotation. Just took it across the street this time instead of the dealer. Done in under a hour. Mo price difference really. 46,465 miles. Still some life left in the Duratracs!

When you work a 3 till ? any appt. is a royal PITA.

Drive through the rain today! Now my neighbors won’t gawk at me washing a perfectly clean car tomorrow!

That's clever! Do you mind if I steal that one?

Very quiet at work today, so I got on the tools and continued with my renovation of the fernery.

Again, I stripped away stock displayed in front of this section, allowing me to reform the boarder with larger rocks and blending in the gravel path. To display plants, I put flat sections of slate with smaller stones around them to blend it all together. When the warmer weather arrives, I want to add some color to all of the green via Impatiens and Coleus.

I'm enjoying this job, done all at once I would be hating it, but just chipping away at it when time allows is really fun. And it helps the day go quicker.

Stuck at home, so I decided to respray the plastic grill surround, it was starting to wear through, and there were some stone chips. Last sprayed about 3-4 years ago. The colour is matte charcoal metallic, alot of FJ owners go gloss or matte black, but I like this colour with the silver, and it matched the hood vinyl I used to have. It's actually a high temp paint for exhausts, which is why it wears off, but it's easy enough to respray.

Removed it from the vehicle, 2 screws and 2 clips, plus 4 locating pins. The removed the black centre grill, which was still connected by the wiring for my custom DRLs, I couldn't be bothered cutting and reconnecting wires, and hung it over the back of my spray panel. Used 2 screws to secure the grill surround to the spray panel. Applied 4 light coats over about an hour and a half. Dried in another hour, now the fun, attaching the centre grill and reinstalling on the vehicle without knocking any of the freshly painted parts. Tricky bit was one of locating pins didn't want go in, pull it out, jiggle a bit, try again, and repeat, success.

Almost forgot, while the black centre grill was out, sprayed and let it soak with 303 Aerospace Protectant, then wiped off the excess before reinstalling.

Picked up the pieces of an Amazon Prime delivery...

My Boss ordered a couple of things off Amazon a few weeks ago, asked for them to be delivered to Amazon parcel lockers near his home. Apparently the couriers they use won't deliver to Amazon parcel lockers, the codes they're given won't open the lockers, so he kept getting failed delivery messages. Luckily we use the same couriers, so got them redirected to work, but so frustrating.

Pretty poor effort there.

This podcast shines some light on the culture within Amazon and their treatment of the humans who attempt to make the system work.

When We All Show Up Burned Out At Work – Lemonada Media

In no way excusing what was done, rather its the result of a poor employer attitude that permeates throughout their workforce. The end result is employees who don't feel valued or engaged and therefore don't give a crap about what they are doing.

Wow what an acehole.

Even if your employer blows, treats you like shat, theres no excuse for that imo. That customer did nothing to warrent that behavior. If that employee was upset with amazon, one would think it would be more appropriate to be rough with amazons delivery truck or other belongings(hit every pothole) lol not customers stuff.

Ultimately, it's that "No Fs" attitude. That drop at the end certainly wasn't the box's first and I am just glad it wasn't a new carburetor.
And I didn't post this to bash all of Amazon (I have bigger issues with late deliveries and Fed Ex hasn't been much better), but this was too good not to share.

This sort of counts as detailing, but not car related really. I cleaned the garage floor. Mopped, scrubbed, then wiped/dried. Interestingly google said to make sure to use a pH neutral detergent, to avoid staining, as it's bare concrete, not polished or sealed. So I used some Mother's California Gold, as I'm still not allowed out to get the correct stuff. We've had so much wet weather the dogs have been dirty paw prints all around the outside of the car. Still drying but looks much better. Buster couldn't wait, decided to test it out straight away.

Re: Installed some Conti DWS06's on the RedSport

Cut grass this morning. After me it seemed the whole neighborhood cut. LOL. Keeping up appearances. A few riders and a lot of push mowers. I swear I am the only one that owns a self-propelled push mower. Why take a job and make it harder?
