I saw a lot of people rushing about while I was out walking the dogs this morning. Either rushing to do last minute shopping, or heading out on holidays. It's easy to tell the difference, the last minute shoppers are often speeding and look generally stressed, and they're being held up by the others in fully loaded SUVs or utes that are often towing a boat or caravan, and driving well under the speed limit. Very happy I've got everything done, I'm sitting with my dogs eating lunch, watching an old episode of top gear, and tomorrow I only have to go 3 minutes to my nephew's house for Christmas lunch.

Groceries were the big change for my girlfriend. She has always disliked grocery shopping. Now she orders them online and just does pickup.

See, I actually liked doing the groceries pre-Covid, then it became a massive anxiety trip and something I dreaded doing. The whole thing was compounded by the shopping strip and supermarket closest to me being a cesspit of tweaked up druggies and the streets used as a public connivence, nearly every visit there was something nasty going on out front. I always felt like I needed a shower each time I would return from there. Now, I order what I need on a Sunday night in comfort (and safety) and its delivered the next day, free of charge.

Where I lived in Sydney, the local shopping strip was used as a filming location "Housos". I won't put a link up as there is a fair amount of swearing in most of the videos out there and it is really bad tv, but it has a following. It wasn't as bad as portrayed in the show, but there were days it was close. If anyone wants to search, use :

Housos "reality"!

But you have been warned.

While I had the FJ in the garage to do the wheels, I checked all the pressures, all around 32psi, so I bumped them all up to 35psi. While I was doing that I decided to adjust my rear shocks, changed them to their softest setting. All done by turning a little knob on the bottom of the shock, there's about 20 different settings, I had them about midway, I want to see if I can feel the difference, even though I bumped the tyre pressures up.

I took the underside shot while under there, just a few bumps and scrapes, even though it's all tucked up pretty good. Saw a story on YouTube recently where a guy in Canada with a Hyundai Ioniq 5 ran over some debris on a highway, left a scrape on the battery protection cover, he took it in to get checked out, they looked at it and told him he needs a new battery, apparently if the cover takes a hit, the battery is compromised, so has to be replaced, and that will be $60,000 please. I think I might stick with my FJ for a while longer.

That $60K story is crazy, more than the car itself

Reminds me of when the print head went on my HP printer--replacement would have cost more than buying a new printer.

Had time this week to..

1. Chemical cleaner thru the dishwasher.
2. Chemical cleaner thru the washing machine.
3. Cleaned the inside of the fridge.

Back to Forza. The 'Tip Of The Spear' tour dropped yesterday with the featured car being the 2021 McLaren Sabre. I could also use my already purchased 488 Pista, GT3 RS, or GT2 RS but the Sabre looks, busy, and fun.

Took advantage of the 50+ F day and did the front brakes on my car. Looks like they would have passed inspection next month but they were getting close.

They actually check the pad thickness there in PA? Back when they used to do "safety checks" here in NJ, they never did that, just more of a functional check.

Oh, PS, I see you have the same Harbor Freight aluminum "race" jack that I do.

yep, pad thickness, tread depth, etc. 2/32" limit on both. yeah, it's a HF low profile jack. still have to drive up on some 2x8's or 2x10's to get enough clearance to jack up the car.

You have to go to private shop for that? So they have completely privatized the car inspection there? They had gone half and half here, but now that there are no more "safety inspections" here, the only thing they do is check to make sure your check engine light isn't on, so I can't see anyone paying to go to a private inspection facility for that, unless they have already failed and they're taking it there to have the emissions problem fixed. They did check the tires here when they did that kind of thing. Come to think of it, I think NY they do the same thing where you have to go to a private garage and they take the wheels off and look at the brakes, I don't really see the point, I think it was better when they checked the braking uniformity here, but I think they stopped doing that before they even dropped some of the other stuff. They still do it on commercial vehicles here. Sorry I'm tired and rambling.

Yeah. You can go to any place that's licensed to do inspections. Just about any garage can. I just take it back to the dealership I got the car at since they do it for free. I still have to pay for the emissions inspection.

In New South Wales where I live, vehicles have to be inspected every year once they hit 5 years old. They're supposed to do a thorough mechanical inspection, lights and horn included, check for any significant rust, check the seatbelts, and the brakes get tested with a machine that's meant to record pedal effort and maximum and average Gs, but I've seen a mechanic who could get a pass sitting at his desk in his office.

They also record the odometer at every inspection, and anyone can access the last 3 readings as long as they have the plate number, this is meant to stop people from winding the odometers back. But they've already figured out how to beat it, you just get the car inspected 3 times quickly and it wipes out the old readings, but if you're smart you just wouldn't buy a car that's got 3 readings that are too close together. This is the info you see when you put a plate number into the state government app, and yes the colour listed for my FJ is wrong, I've already been on to fix it once, at least it doesn't say Tan anymore, and it does have a white roof.

You can use the app to confirm any vehicle your driving is registered and has valid insurance, because regardless of who owns the vehicle, if it's unregistered and you're the driver, you get the fines, $704 for unregistered and $704 for uninsured, a double whammy because an unregistered vehicle is also uninsured.

My Mum bought herself a new tv for her bedroom in the post Christmas sales, the old one wouldn't pick up all the HD channels. The new one is a Blaupunkt, 32" and only $197. So it was my job to do the set up, what fun. Choose the wifi network and put the password in, nope, can't find that network, forget the network and try again, still nope. So I reboot the router and start all over, now it can't find any network, screw this, I do a factory reset on the tv, and leave it off for an hour. Start again, all done in less than 5 minutes, everything up and running perfectly. So frustrating.

Problem 2, the soundbar she bought with it doesn't fit on the tv shelf she has, and she doesn't want me to mount it on the wall, so I swap the PC speakers (with subwoofer) that I use on my garage tv. Fits, neatly, and sounds good. I mount the soundbar to the tv shelf in the garage, level and centred. But the cable that comes with the soundbar doesn't fit the tv I have in the garage, ah, but both have optical connections, and somewhere in my box of miscellaneous cables I have an optical cable, if I can just find it. Glad I'm a cable hoarder, found and installed. Done.

3 hours+, but at least Mum is happy.
