I see a lot of good pictures on the forum and was wondering what camera you prefer? I lost mine over the holidays, so I looking for some suggestions before I go shopping (around $200).
I assume that the best looking ones are taken with a SLR type camera, but you never know. I would like to buy an SLR down the road, but the funds are there yet.

Thanks,
JJKacz

I'm now using a Panasonic Lumix...8.1 megapixels with a 10x zoom. Most of my photos though were taken with my previous camera I still use occasionally...Olympus E10 w/4 megapixels and a 4x zoom. The Olympus has a viewfinder as well as an LCD screen, which definitely is an advantage in some lighting conditions.

Kodak EasyShare C875. 8 Mega-pixels and it still works after four years. At one time it was one of the best cameras out there, then I think the next week it was obsolete. Regardless, we're firm believers that it's not the size of your telescoping lens but how you use it.:)

Olympus Stylus Tough 8000....12MP, 3.6opt Zoom, waterproof to 33ft, shockproof if dropped from 6.6 feet

I use the Panasonic and love it also.

I have looked at the Stylus Tough 6000 & 8000 a lot due to the durability of it. I was a little turned off when I read some comments about the "just average" photo quality. Do you think the picure quality is good?

I got a Canon A1100IS for my fiancee for Christmas. I have a post on here that I used the camera with. It has 12 megapixels with 4x optical zoom. It was only $140. It's nothing special, but I think it's great for what I use it for!

Thanks, I checked out your pictures - they looked good, especially for the price you paid! How is the battery life? I see that the camera uses 2 AAs?

I hear you there! bright sunlight makes viewing the LCD screen tough.

I use a Canon S5is, it's a great pre-DSLR camera. I've seen it going for ~$190

I use a Canon 1D Mark-IIn best camera I ever used :) before that I had a Rebel XT and then I had a 30D.

I use a Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ7, 7.2 megapixel, 6x optical zoom. We paid $200 for it about 2.5 years ago and after some searching just a bit ago they can be had for about $100 new right now.

We have been VERY happy with this camera, our only complaint is that you can't zoom in or out when recording video. It uses two "AA" batteries, but with some good 2500 mAh rechargables, I don't ever remember burning up a set of fully charged batteries.

I think it does good :)

Here is a link to my photobucket album with a bunch of pics and vids taken with this camera from the 2009 Woodward Dream Cruise :dblthumb2:

In that price range, I'd recommend an SD780IS or an SD1200IS. My father has both so I have quite a bit of experience with each and they're great little cameras. The SD1200IS is right at $149.

Hey Guys, nice choice of camera! I have been reading up on the Nikon D90 and Canon EOS Rebel T1i. Any suggestions for a starter DSLR? I would like to purchase one eventually.

I would recommend getting a cheaper body (I use a Rebel XT, body can be picked up for around $250), and putting the rest of the money into lenses. :props:

To answer the title of the thread, my DSLR setup is a Rebel XT with Tamron 17-50 f/2.8, Canon 50 f/1.8, Canon 55-250, and a 430EX II flash. My P&S is a newly acquired Canon S90 and I love it so far.

I use a 40D unfortunately that is not in your range. I might have an extra nikon p&s laying around if you wanted it.

My suggestion is to figure out which brand you like better, and stick with it. I went from a nikon d50 to canon 40D. The lower line of canon I wasn't impressed with, but if I would have waited a little I could have just gone with the canon and save myself some money in the end. Since I have owned both brands I will let you know the differences. I like the colors that nikon produced, and the way the zoom turned. Canon I like the menu layout and some functions better.

I use a Canon Powershot S3-IS when I need a small, quality camera. If I have the ability to bring more gear, I'll break out either a Canon 40D or it's backup a 300D Digital Rebel.
