What do you consider a "wash and wax"?

Can't tell if serious or not so i'll play along.
I actually think their tire shine was a good product. Being that your familiar with their products can you tell me...
we will use hawaiian shine as an example: Is this product really a wax? or just a marketing scheme for a ...wet shine look?
If it is really a wax, how does it compare to a product such as megs ultimate wax?

I still have and use JaxWax Blue tire-dressing on occasion.

Hawaiian Shine (from yet another Ohio-based company):
Is a car wash soap that has "gloss enhancers"...not your typical last step product (LSP).
Wouldn't serve as a very good sacrificial barrier...IMHO.

Meguiar's Ultimate Wax:
A 100% synthetic formula sealant...
A very typical LSP that will serve as very good sacrificial barrier...IMHO.

There are as many interpretations of "wash & wax" as there are members here. You need to define what YOUR definition is.

Well said. There is express detailing and then there is meticulous detailing. There is a market for both types of detailing you just have to pick which one you feel comfortable with. Sometimes I lose potential customers because my detailing quote is out of their budget or my services take too long to complete for their busy schedule.

Wax... usually megs ultimate paste wax

That's what they want.. why give them more?

What is a finishing polish? Someone said the polish I just bought (megs ultimate polish) is a finishing polish...i'm just wondering what's the difference between this and a regular polish? Should I get another polish to put on before this one too?

Customers can go to any detailer around me and get a simple wash and wax. I wanted to offer services that other detailers in my area don't offer. I don't like offering services that aren't clearly listed on my website either.

I have reluctantly accepted to perform detailing services that are not sufficient enough for the vehicle's needs. I agreed to vacuum the interior, clean the glass and wipe down the interior with a UV protectant. I knew from the start that the vehicle needed a full interior detail and not a quick wipe down. When the customer dropped their vehicle off they expressed their concern about the salt stains in the floor mats and carpet. This is after I clearly stated over the phone that vacuuming alone will not remove the salt stains and that a hot water extraction is needed. Before leaving they said I trust you will do what is right. What is that suppose to mean? You better remove all that salt even though it isn't included in the detailing package I just purchased.

Needless to say I don't want someone leaving me a bad online review over $50 and I upgraded their detail for free. Upon picking up their vehicle I pointed out that the salt stains had been removed and that their vehicle received a full interior detail. They said something along the lines of it looks pretty good and I called it a day.

I am not a price leader when it comes to detailing. I would rather not risk having my reputation tarnished by offering partial details to customers and having someone be unsatisfied with the results.

My detailing packages are more in depth than most of my competition because I am targeting a different type of customer.

M205 is a finishing polish while M105 is considered a compound or in this case a regular polish.

Ah I see. Well it seems I got what I wanted since I'm not really looking to take out scratches yet as much as just add a shine before the wax while I'm just starting out.

This is a sticky situation for a detailer, especially detailers that prides themselves in their quality of work which is pretty much everyone that comes here. Basically it's a lose-lose situation.

On the one hand if you perform the detail according to the package they have chosen and agreed to pay you for, you risk not meeting the customers unreasonably high (unreasonable for the package they've chosen) expectations. Which will lead to bad online reviews and bad referrals.

On the other hand if you go above and beyond, you're doing extra work for free just to "meet" their expectations.

In the end it's probably best to avoid these situations altogether and instead of accepting, steer them to the car wash detail down the street and focus on the customers who appreciate and value a quality detail.

A finishing polish would be considered a product that you can "finish the job" with. Meaning no further polishing steps would be needed after you use it. You should be fine with what you have.
