As the title says I have a black single stage Lexus I want to keep it protected from the florida heat and scratches/swirls.What wax do you guys recommend.:xyxthumbs:

Also what type of pads and polishes do you guys recommend for heavy swirls and lights swirls.

are you sure it's single stage? Lexus uses tinted clear on their black cars so just b/c you get some black colouring on your pads when you polish doesn't necessarily mean it's single stage.

In the Florida heat, a wax won't last you that long. You may want to consider a sealant like WGDGPS topped with something like souveran or fuzion or maybe a coating to help protect the soft lexus paint

Lexus black is single stage, not tinted clear. This was confirmed to me by the dealership when I inquired.

I never believe what the dealer tells me. I've been quoted for a transmission fluid flush and told them to take it off b/c the fluid in my car is lifetime (there isn't even a drain plug on the car) and they argued with me until I showed it to them in the manual.

is it possible that they mix clear in with the base coat? I've read about that theory on autopia before...

Last week Kyle who has worked on the makeovers that we do also works for Lexus I asked him the same question about the black being a single stage paint he told me that it Isn't single stage paint .

Pinnacle Souveran Paste Wax looks awesome on Black paint

Just ran around my shop and asked our paint guys and they all say the same thing. We do not have any single stage paint on our vehicles.

99 Lexus GS300 black

Why would Lexus spray a single stage and not a 2stage?

it is 2 stage

and it's expensive so don't go wetsanding it thinking it's only ss...

if you go through the clear, then the basecoat looks like caca

Finally what I've been saying for a while actually can be confirmed Thanks Kyle :xyxthumbs:

I polished it 2 weeks ago using LC flat foam yellow and orange pads using Poorboys polish and my pads had paint transfer.Or was it something else?
I washed and clayed before paint correction.

would a black 1993 lexus es300 be single stage?

From my article list under

How to Test for Single Stage or Clear Coat Paint

To test for a single stage paint, try to find a light colored or white polish if you're working on any kind of pigmented paint. If you're testing white paint then try to use a polish with a color to it and a dark colored cloth, (so you can confirm that you're removing white paint and not just seeing the color of the paint).

Use an ample amount for plenty of lubrication as you're going to want to push firmly if no oxidation is present as was the case with the finish on the classic car.

Confirmed, we're working on a single stage paint... also note the heavier accumulation were my fingers pressed down with the most pressure... this is because you can exert more pressure to the small area of your finger tips than you can with your entire hand, you can use this to work for you or cause problems depending upon what you're trying to do...

What color is Poorboys Polish?

Did you clay the car real good?

would a black 1993 lexus es300 be single stage?

No. I've never seen any year Lexus with single stage paint

a sure fire way to tell if its basecoat/clear coat or single stage is grab the paint code and look on a color code look up page. for the guy inquiring about the 93 es300 the black is single stage AutoColorLibrary - Color Chip Selection best is to look up the ppg color chip books...

edit: did some research in 1999 the black is called black onyx which from my research shows it is not clear coated, just because it has a lexus badge on it dont mean its clear coated, lexus is just a rebadged toyota. best way to test is as mike phillips says and use a light polish to see if black comes off if it does its not clear coated, hell some brand new cars dont have clear coat, single stage is still used even with some luxury car brands
