what do you guys think of Scotch guard fabric protectant?

I'm thinking you live in a perfect world where accidents dont happen and split seconds mean everything. Or you are having a hard time with the 21st century world that has past you by. Its not what it used to be. I know a lot of 60+ year olds who have the same "problem". They think its still a relatively simple, slow paced planet. Its not. I have to explain to retired men all the time how things have changed. Most dont understand at all.

I gave you a compliment. I spoke based on real world situations in the year 2014, including situations I have experienced. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe not. You seem like the kind of person that wins all arguments. I deal with these people everyday as well. And I refer them to the shop down the street where they can find the highest level of "satisfaction" they seek. You cant win them all.

To each their own, my friend.
I tried laughing...but it still hurt a little bit, my friend.

Bob, I will hire you at $12 an hour, and make you my shop supervisor. There is no way I could ever find someone with your knowledge. The offer is real. Move to indianapolis and get started tomorrow. I'm serious. Your knowledge is second to none, and I'm sure your skill level is even more impressive. It's a real offer. Retirement isn't what it used to be, so KEEP WORKING. Thats probably more $$ than you used to make. Full time shop manager at a shop that invoiced $273,000 last year. With that money you can buy all the MSDS sheets you want. Heck, I'll let you dump chemicals on the floor and test them out. Maybe catch your second wind in life, no? I wouldn't normally offer this to someone of your age but it appears that you still have a fight in you that is rarely seen. Most people want to retire in peace, but you, my friend, still seem to want to waste your last few years away. I have plenty of clients you can argue with. Let me know when you can start :)

"It's all a pile of sh!t"...Bob whispered to no one in particular as the darkness:
(that he has become so familiar with)...began to once again slowly envelope him.
"It’s all just one big pile of sh!t"!

why do I need to look at MSDS?

If you value knowing what's in the chemicals you use, MSDS sheets are pretty valuable. Have a question on pH, flammability, level of causticity, biodegradable ingredients, etc? Those sheets are the best resource.

Wow! This thread sure took a nasty turn.Bill

Sheesh...yeah it did.

why do I need to look at MSDS?
IMO...
Here's a pretty good explanation:

Note:
Please excuse my straying somewhat from your thread topic.

I obviously have nothing to add to the thread (which has been long derailed) considering Bob is on the case and brought all the valuable information needed.

What I will add is in reading and re-reading this thread I noticed a LOT of reluctance to get in compliance because 1) we don't get it 2) we've never done it before 3) never got in trouble. As Bob pointed out there are OSHA regulatory statutes that need to be abided by, and none of the above excuses preclude you for being in compliance. Those rules and regulations are in place because of possible and real exposure threats. Because you are willing to expose yourself does not mean that you are free and clear to expose others (from employees to customers). Having the MSDS sheet on hand and reading them as part of a "safety meeting" is important in a proactive approach to understand the pitfalls of exposure and what to do in case of exposure (until you are able to bring the injured party to the proper treatments).

IT'S THE LAW!! regardless if you like it or not. If you are bothered by the inconvenience of it, though!!! If you are on AG you obviously have a desire for perfection. Ultimately, you have the right to do what ever you want BUT you also have the right to suffer the consequences of your choices. Cutting corners for your convenience (because it requires a lot of reading and understanding) is in the same class as what we discuss all the time with our own customers who choose the convenience of using their dish soap to wash their car because it is available, cheap and convenient! Don't be a schmuck!!

One last thought, if I can quote our own Mike Phillips (which goes hand in hand with the need to read and understand the MSDS) If it's on you, it's in you!

Wanna upset your body's chemistry and biochemistry??? Go right ahead and let us know how it works out for you in the long run :Picture:

Of course if you have a business, you have post them. Point is....nobody ever uses them or even looks at them. I know this is Auto GEEK, but you have to understand that 99.9% of people who work in this industry arent geeks, they are high school dropouts excited to make $10. People who own very busy shops like mine know that you aren't going to find scholars to do this work. So you just do what the law requires and move on. Have owned a shop since my freshman year in high school, had dozens of employees roll through, never once removed the MSDS sheets from the wall. Not saying it wont ever happen, but as a gambling man, I wouldn't bet much on it.
