Hey gang,

I recently cleaned (only slightly) up my garage, and that included getting junk off the detail cart.

Got curious and wanted to ask you guys and gals: When you're polishing a car, and need to set it down, what do you set it down onto?

ALSO: if you vote "Cart" would you share which one you use?

Thanks to all who take the time to participate!!

I started with the floor, and sometimes still do if I'm working on lower panels.

Lately, I try and use a detail cart if I'm at home, or a platform if I'm mobile.

I put mine on a cart......the Luxor EC-111 to be exact

I always put mine on the work bench or my folding table. I went to my first vendor-sponsored, hands-on detailing class a few weeks ago and was able to see the habits of others for the first time. I was surprised to see some people lay them on the floor. Even if you lay it upside down, there's just too much potential for it to get knocked over and contaminating the pad to risk doing that IMHO.

Thank you for being exact!!

I'm not surprised anymore. I see it all the time with the guys on YouTube. Pros or not, the floor gets used often. I do see carts with the guys who are in a shop environment.

Thanks for voting, guys

Since I don't have a garage, I detail in the driveway.

I actually use a little wagon (kinda like a garden cart) that I got for free sometime back. I have a cotton towel in the bottom, and load my product bag in there and also use it to rest my polisher in.

Low-tech, but it works for me.

Three tiered metal cart from Ikea. The casters suck.

In mt shop I use a cart for my chemicals, brushes, and towels, but when I'm polishing a car I always sit my polisher on the floor (pad face up). I sweep and mop my epoxy floors after every single detail and I don't have employees so I'm able to keep the floors extremely clean. That said, If I was working in a gross dusty shop I wouldn't be nearly as willing to sit my polisher on the floor.

Kinda why I never looked into a cart. On a smooth garage floor, sure. But on my (not the newest) blacktop, I thought it'd be a nightmare to roll casters around.

My little cart has 8" pneumatic tires. (Off roaders) Lol

My seat or a cart, none of my polishers ever touch the floor, just my paranoia I guess.

I feel the same- usually place them on their back on my rolling seat.

I did fab this up today, however. Its profile is very similar to the new kxk dynamics PR2, but the front holds 2 polishers, not one. I figured a little extra steel and about a half hours worth of fab work and it turned out pretty nice! I painted it tonight and plan on mounting it to my rolling cart tomorrow!

The first details I did on the garage this season, were pretty gross from the dirt tracked in from the outside. Once I swept and washed it, I haven't needed to wash off my extension or tool cords.

I've worked in a shops that got my equipment caked with dirt... It was gross...

I hate doing mobile jobs for that very reason. Everytime I do a mobile job it seems like I always have to spend an additional 15-20 minutes cleaning all the dirt off my extension cords, polishers, buckets, etc. before I ever bring it back into my shop. Sometime I wonder if it would be inappropriate to ask my customers to take their shoes off when they come in.lol

I do my best so when customers come into my shop they are stunned by how clean and organized I am. My hope is that it sends a message that I'll also take good care of their vehicle.

I had to vote, "other". My garage has shelves of some sort on all three sides. As I work around the car I just find a spot on one of those shelves to place the polisher to keep it clean. Same goes for the bottle of polish and spare pads.
