What do you think of this 70's era 2-door Chevy?

This is a Pro Stock Vega with a $10,000 paint job that will be here next week with myself and my guest Tommy Johnson Jr.

I hear it can make going to the grocery store a quick trip...

:D

Not a bad car in my mind, but the paint job is terrible. Looks like a big sticker or something you might see in lowrider magazine.

I'm going to hold off on judgment till the car arrives here next week and I'll take some pictures and post them.

I've already sent the link to this thread to the owner of the car, his son, both TV Producers, and our Marketing Agent for the show...

:xyxthumbs:

I remember Grumpy Jenkins and others were pushing those down the track in the '70s. Bob Glidden, Don Nicholson and the Fords sent 'em home real regularly, IIRC.

Why would you spend that kind of $$ for paint when it could possibly hitting the wall?

Drag strip retaining wall scuffs don't buff out - I know from experience - unfortunately. You gotta love a wheel stand!

not thrilled with paint.......but I could see myself making beer runs in that! :coolgleam:

I like them, but I might be a little biased!!!!:dblthumb2:

I remember back in the '70's lots of people were putting V8's in Vegas. It didn't take much motor to make those light cars fast as hell.

Unless my eyes deceive me, that actually is just a big vinyl wrap... and not a particularly attractive one IMHO. No offense to the owner but I think a slightly less busy scheme would be my preference.

Veeeeeerrrrrrryyyyy Nice!!!!

And to think....GM's President Cole (not Chevrolet) decided that rear-wheel drive Vegas and Monzas had to be let go from the Corporation's portfolio, and replaced by the POS front-wheel drive Citations of the 80's....Damn Oil Embargos!!! Damn Cole for trying to wear two hats at the same time!!!

:)

I never had fond memories of the Vega due to engine failures but it seemed better than the Pinto.

That 4 cylinder was one of Coles's pet projects when he was Chief Engineer at GM....instead of using Chevrolet's 302 V8 in the Vega. Cole said he wanted it for the Corvette, which never happened.

I referenced earlier Cole's wearing of two hats.

now thats an awesome guest to have!

as for the vega... that takes me back a few years.
Had to call up a co-worker from the past and ask about his dads vega drag car. looked similar and had the same color combo, but is not the same car.

The vega always had a cult following.
Nice to walk past and see at a car show, but for the time, effort and money used to build the car... it's not likely to get the respect it deserves.
