What does it mean!

Hey Geeks,

I am trying to put a package together that includes machine polishing. When I checked out two local competitors they both had a package which included "buffing" as they called it. They had swirl removal listed as an add-on. I always thought buffing meant removing swirls. So my question is what do you think they are actually doing when they say "buffing"? Also both detailers were charging around 130 to 150 dollars for this package. That seems low for a full machine polished detail.

You need your own menu. Who knows what your competition means when they say Buff

In this industry buffing usually means creating swirls

i watched this video where some 'auto detailer' applied a wax by hand with an excessive amount of product, buffed it off with a rotary, applied some other product, and polished it off with a rotary.............

OP- that is waayyy underpriced.. I start at a flat rate plus hourly fee. Typically my fee for a regular size car are in the $400 range, depending on how many steps the customer wants.

Yea I know I need my own menu, but just wanted to know your guys take on the whole buffing thing. I will soon be posting a thread with packages and prices! Thanks to those who responded.

Buffing to most detailers consists of applying a filler laden AIO type polish with a rotary polisher and wool pad.

Thanks vp mark. I just saw another sign today at a car wash that said they would do a "wash, wax and buff" for $89! Its called a full detail but I doubt it really is. It just amazes me how loosely that word is tossed around.

To the layman, a "professional" puts on and takes off wax with a "buffer." There is no polishing step; the average Joe lumps polishing and waxing together. Never mind that people also don't know there is a difference between washing and cleaning.

yep.. wash, then wax (spray wax), then wipe/(Buff) off.. if the customer wants this deal offer it for what I said.. they are happy, car shines and you didn't lie...

Now when they drop the car off explain other options and upsell
