Hi Out there in detail LAND... I want to do the full detail on my Corvette. I keep it spotless and it's my DD. I have minor spider webbing and light swirls but overall paint is in great condition.

Here's what I want to do; 2 bucket wash, Finesse Iron out de contaminator, Meg 205, 2 coats of Pinnacle Signature II Carnuba Paste Wax, Pinnacle Souveran Liquid Spray Wax.

Is there another step I'm missing or one I can do to really make the paint POP ? The car is Mag. Red Met.

Any suggestions are welcome.. Thanks Ken

M205 is a finishing polish, so may not be aggressive enough to remove your swirls (depending on how hard your paint is).

You may need another more aggressive polish / compound to use before M205.

Other than that, your list looks fine..

You need to clay before polishing.

Also, as other suggested, you may have to use a compound like m105 or m101.

And I highly suggest a coating and not a sealant so you can maintain that look for as long as possible.

I personally think for the money and time, there are products that are better than m105/205. They dust so bad I have to spend extra time cleaning up the mess it makes. I love the Menzerna products. No dust and excellent finish. But if that's out of your budget maybe try WolfGangs line.

I have had good results with Meg ultimate compound or there total swirl remover. Little to no dust and finishes good. And you can get it at most auto parts stores.

EDIT : I agree with the previous comments about using a sealant. The time you are gonna spend with the wax, you could yield 10x longer protection with the sealant. And after it "sets up" you can apply a carnauba wax on top of that. Maybe try to keep it in the same family, sometimes mixing waxes and sealants will produce a weird haze.

I have never had a problem with m105/205 dusting. If it does, it's a quick wipe with a mf towel and you're all set.

They are probably the most popular combo available right now.

Also a sealant will not last you 10x longer than a wax. A good wax will last 2-4 months mostly. A good sealant will last you 4-12.

Also puting lets say klasse hgsg and then topping that off with pinnacle souveran looks great, no hazing.

What year is it and does it still have the original factory clear?

Here's what I want to do;
  • 2 bucket wash
  • Finesse Iron out de contaminator
  • Meg 205
  • 2 coats of Pinnacle Signature II Carnauba Paste Wax
  • Pinnacle Souveran Liquid Spray Wax.

That all looks good, like mentioned the M205 was designed to be a follow-up polish to be used to remove any swirls left by M105 when it was used with a wool pad on fresh paint in a body shop situation. (look, both M105 and 205 are in Meguiar's Pro Line). Of course we all use these product in the detail world but M205 is a "Fine Cut Polish" and if you have the factory hard clearcoat it may not have enough bite to remove the swirls.

Kind of depends upon what tool and pad you're going to to use.

So be sure to test first doing a Test Spot and make sure the pad, tool, your technique and the M205 are getting the paint to where you want it to be before you do the entire car.

That's the importance of doing a Test Spot, it keeps you from being disappointed at the end of a detailing session with your car.

That said, if you use the M205 with a foam polishing pad on just about any tool, DA, Flex, Rupes, etc. it could be enough to remove the spider webbing and swirls. Just test first. You could even use a foam cutting pad, the more aggressiveness of the foam cutting pad together with the M205 should take care of the swirls, but sometimes a more aggressive pad can leave DA Haze in the paint, so again test first.

Here's a video we made using a car of the same or similar color and this video is actually a very detailed video showing you pretty much everything you need to know and everything you need to do to get your paint perfect.

Just follow the video and these basic steps and you'll be blown away with the results and all your friends will think you got a new paint job and then they'll ask you to detail their car.

Wash
Inspect with sense of touch
Tape-off any trim
Do the Major Correction Step - If needed
Do the Polishing step
Machine apply the wax

Sit back and admire the results.

I actually walked Dave Bowman of TV Fame through this exact same process for his daily driver, a Corvette of the same color in the video.

:)

Yeah, I guess saying 10x is a figure of speech. I wouldn't think someone would look at that and really think a sealant would last 40 months lol. But it is substantially longer.

All I can Say Is WOW!!!! I watched Mike's video and the car turned out great.... I'll throw in the sealant prior to paste wax, Pinnacle Signature II, and top that off with the Souveran Spray Wax. That should shine that puppy big time. I looked at the paint in the direct sun this afternoon and all I saw were faint webbing. So I think the M205 should be enough. I'll be using a Porter Cable DA with the Orange Lake County CCS pad to apply the M205, the blue pad for the sealant and the red pad for the wax. I'll learn how to post pictures here and put them up when I'm finished. Thanks to all for all your suggestions, I love this forum :dblthumb2:

If its a corvette that's within 10 years old the paint is going to be rock hard. 205 doesn't cut very good for paint that hard. I would pick up at least some ultimate compound and see how that looks.

Mike, I think you forgot Clay (if needed) for the 3rd step. :)

You're right, I meant to add "and then clay if needed" after I typed this,

Inspect with sense of touch and then clay if needed.

But the video I inserted covers this an a lot more.

That sounds right. M205 is a very good fine cut polish.

That'll work. Run the PC on the 6 speed setting to maintain maximum pad rotation and if you haven't already, mark the back of your backing plate to make it easy for your eyes to see monitor pad rotation.

Sounds good Ken...

On pictures, most important thing beside taking good pictures is resizing them to about 800 pixels wide. Next is learning how to upload them to the gallery and then how to insert them.

The first time a person does this it can seem confusing but it's really not that hard and I have how-to articles on how to do these things and my articles have big screenshot pictures to "show you" how to do these things.

And if you want some help, just give me a call when you're behind your computer and I'll walk you through it. Heck I do this every day. I'm even getting ready to do some more, I'll probably post at least 100 picture to this forum today.

Download this, I use it for EVERY picture I post to the forum.
