What exactly is a compound compared to a diminishing abrasive?

"The XMT line does not use diminishing abrasives." thats what i was told by someone at AG. I always thought of a compound as a crazy strong polish.

Hello all,

This is a great thread. I can see where there could be some confusion between diminishing abrasives such as those that are in the Pinnacle Advanced Swirl Remover, Advanced Finishing Polish the abrasives in the XMT line that break down yet require follow up with a finer abrasive or a finishing glaze. I will be happy to offer some clarification.

All abrasives, when used with a machine polisher, are broken down by the combination of heat and friction. Like a fine jeweler’s rouge, diminishing abrasives break down completely turning into an ultra-fine finishing polish. Products such as Pinnacle Advanced Swirl Remover and Advanced Finishing Polish utilize diminishing abrasives making this an ideal choice for new or like-new finishes that do not require a multi-step swirl removal process. Used alone, Pinnacle Advanced Swirl Remover leaves behind a beautiful paint finish that is ready for your favorite Pinnacle wax. You can use the Advanced Finishing Polish to further refine the paint surface and make it really pop before waxing.

From the Autogeek.net website:

Note: Pinnacle Advanced Swirl Remover will yield the best results on paint finishes that are in overall good condition with mild to moderate defects. If you find that your vehicle’s swirls are more pronounced than you first thought, use Pinnacle’s XMT Series Swirl Removers #2 and #3. The XMT swirl remover series offers more choices to correct a wider range of paint flaws, and they feature the same clear coat safe diminishing abrasive technology.

The abrasives in XMT Series break down but are not considered diminishing abrasives. For instance, when using XMT #3 it is recommended that the user follow up with XMT #1 to continue refining the paint finish where the abrasives in the #3 left off. XMT Carnauba Finishing Glaze can be used after XMT #1 to further enhance the paint finish.

Thanks to everyone for bringing this to our attention. We will evaluate and adjust the copy on our website to ensure that we are giving you the most accurate and easy to understand information regarding our products and how they perform.

Sincerely,

Dwayne
