I am on my vacation/ stay-ca-tion from work.

I promised the wife to work on some house projects that I've been putting off for months. She thinks I spend too much time on working on cars and really would like to see some of these tasks being accomplished this week.

As I walked through the garage, I saw the new Buff & Shine MF cutting pads sitting in the corner (they arrived a few days earlier) and I just couldn't help myself.

This is the close up of the defect on the paint.

After the usual prep (wash and clay), I took my flex and went to town on a panel with the MF pad and M101. 2 passes later..... A lot better but not quite there yet.

Note: The B&S MF was playing nice with the Flex 3401. I didn't experience any grabbiest. It felt almost like I was using foam. It actually felt better than my go-to MF pad....OPT MF cutting Pad. For a quick comparison, I did a small section with the OPT MF. I had a hard time telling the difference as far as the result was concern. The action was smoother with the B&S pads but it did however generated more heat on the surface than OPT.

I wasn't completely happy with the result so I grabbed my LC Purple Wool Foam and did the section adjacent to it. Few passes later. Much, much better.

Note: The surface seemed cooler after the use of the wool pad versus the B & S pad. Weird.....

The test spot dictated that the wool pad was better for this situation. I did all the panels with the wool pad followed by SF4000 on a LC Hybrid Polishing pad. A thin layer of sealant was applied immediately after a wipe down with CarPro Eraser.

Here is the Unveiling.

When the wife saw this, she was speechless. She just walked back to the house and didn't say a word for the rest of the day regarding the other house projects. Even now....I am not sure she was impressed, shocked, or mad.

There are five things I learned.

1. The B&S MF pad worked just as well on the 3401 as OPT but with a smoother buffing experience.

2. Be sensitive to the surface temperature when using the B & S Pad.

3. The LC Wool Foam will still the pad of choice when dealing with really nasty paint.

4. I never thought I could do anything that would make my wife speechless.

5. I now have the shiniest dryer in the neighborhood.

Thanks for the feedback on these pads. Sounds like the LC PFW pads still hold the spot for the grunt work while the B&S pads are for use for general correction work.

How does the B&S pad compare to say an orange or yellow LC cutting pad?

Best thing I have read all day. I have similar issues with the gf lol.

Nice test. Wool will definitely play better than MF with the 3401, while MF will definitely play better than wool on a standard DA.

Wow, worked so well it's like it's not even there! Wait, maybe the picture just isn't loading... :)

On the 3401? I'd be willing to be the orange pad will cut just as well as the MF pad. On a standard DA, the MF pad will blow away the orange pad.

Yes the 3401.

Thank you for the feedback Mark.
No problem, Mike. Foam or foamed wool is where it's at with the 3401. I always got less than stellar results using MF pads with the 3401. KB told me because of the forced rotation, the fibers are matted down too much, which will results in more haze and less cut.

4. I never thought I could do anything that would make my wife speechless.

Enjoy the moment, it never lasts long. Tomorrow is another day. Those House projects will surface once again, BTW its your vacation.Nothing wrong with trying out a ne product! Now, Back to work on her list!.

My vacation is over. This is what I dealing with tomorrow. I will compare the B&S MF to the LC Orange Hybrid. I got a feeling I will be using the wool foam in the end.

Try the BS MF pad with the Flex 3401 on black, you'll see a ton of hazing.

I didn't get what you did, but then paused and did the math, and you polished the Dryer. Hahahahaha, Detail of The Year!!!

^ good luck on this! :/ is that CC failure?

Throw some glaze on it, let it cure then proceed. (Just my opinion)

I think I read this thread correctly, was very funny though lol (props)

I tried both the B&S MF cutting pad and the LC Hybrid orange cutting pad with M101 this morning to see which would perform better on the 3401.

As expected, the B&S MF cutting pad on setting 5 ran warmer on the surface than the LC Hybrid pad on setting 6. M101 dried much faster on the B&S pad than the LC. I was able to do more passes with foam. Since I was could do more passes with the LC pad, I got more out of the polish. However, the cut was about the same when I did the amount of passes with both pads.

Initially, I thought the action with the B&S pad was relatively smooth but once I switched over to foam.....what was I thinking!!! Foam wins. I stayed with the LC Hybrid Orange pad rest of the way.

A little background on the this vehicle. The client has several vehicles and he uses this one mainly for the restaurant which he owns. The scratches on the roof were from boxes (shopping trips at costco). His goal was to get this vehicle back to a sell-able condition.

Good Lord!!!! What a difference!!!! Nice!

On a side note, I've said since day 1, MF pads are not meant for forced rotation.

Thanks...

It wasn't CC failure if you were referring to white-ish spots on the right hand side of the picture. Something dried on it. :dunno: I clayed the car with NanoScrub (medium) pad on a DA but the spots wouldn't budge. I broke out my most aggressive traditional clay and went to town on it. That did the trick.

Thats a night and day difference, it looked like it was left for dead. Thanks for the MF pad review with the 3401, I was on the fence about them.
