I wanted to ask what good wax do I need to use on a brand new 2012 BMW X5, Platinum Gray color. There are so many products and brands , I wanted to use the right wax to protect the paint on my car. I am willing to pay $100.00 for a good wax that lasts.
Also, I would appreciate any advice on what else to use, and how soon should I wax my new car?

Thanks in advance

no need to pay $100....collinite 845 will do the trick

with $100, go for a coating. if you want a wax look, spend the $40 change to buy OCW gallon and apply weekly. With a collinite, you'll save a lot of dough.

Since the paint is new , if you can get the paint polished and coated, nothing better than that! :xyxthumbs:

My choice would be Opti-Guard (Opti-Coat for consumers) after making sure the paint is perfect. However, if the OP is not comfortable with applying a semi-permanent coating then I would take a long look at Duragloss #105 or #111. Collinite 845 is pretty decent too as is Collinite 476. These are just personal choices. You still have Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant topped with Wolfgang Fuzion if you just want to blow $100. I would spend less money on products with proven performance and more money on high quality towels to maintain.

If you want something that really lasts a long time (~2 years) and is very user friendly, I would recommend CarPro CQuartz. CQuartz Ceramic Quartz Paint Protection, CQuartz nano coating, nano paint sealant

If want good durability that is very cost effective and you don't mind reapplying every 4-5 months then try the Collinite #845 wax. Collinite Liquid Insulator Wax #845, liquid wax, heat-resistant wax, car wax

If want something very easy and don't mind reapplying every 2-3 months then try Optimum Spray Wax. Optimum Car Wax is a spray wax made with real carnauba and synthetic paint sealants for protection & shine! high-grade carnauba wax and silicone

I vote for a coating. There are 2 excellent options mentioned earlier, They are harder than your clearcoat and durability is amazing.

I'd add Detailer's Pro Series Poli-Coat and Optimum Car Wax as two products that will hold up well over time.

Both are easy to use and from what I've seen on two cars I've applied these two products to and watched over time they seem to really have some lasting power.

Better than looking for a real durable wax of a new car is the idea of preventative maintenance. That is put your new car on a regular schedule just like you do for oil changes and instead of waiting till every little molecule of the previous coat of wax you applied is worn off, wash and wax the car on a regular schedule.

That's the whole idea behind this quote...

"Find something you like and use it often"

Here's what that means,

If you like a product, that usually means you like the experience of using it which includes application, that is you like how the product applies. It also tends to mean you like how the product removes, that is you like how the product wipes-off. It can also mean you like how fast or slow it dries or the fact that it doesn't have to dry at all and you can wipe it off immediately.

And usually and most important, it means you like how it makes the paint on your car look and that's a huge part of the big picture of owning and enjoying your car, truck or s.u.v. or special interest car.

You can't really know which product you like best until you've used a variety of products so finding something you like and using it often means you have to do some research and at some point make some purchases and then go out into your garage and do some testing to gain real world knowledge and experience.

At some point you will find a product you like and if you use it often then your car's paint will always look good because it's only when you neglect your car's paint that it goes downhill.

Just the simple act of applying and working-in and over the paint a smooth, creamy product, (that is formulated to make paint look good), has a polishing-effect and if done on a regular basis will preserve and maintain a clear, glossy finish and isn't that the primary goal of those that consider them serious car enthusiasts?

How often you have to repeat this process to maintain your car's finish to a quality level you expect for your car's appearance depends upon how the car is used and where it's parked when not in use.

A daily driver that is parked outside most of the time, either at work or at home, will need to be maintained more regularly than a Garage Queen that is only driven on sunny days. So adjust your car maintenance schedule to fit your lifestyle and the way you use your car.

Congratulations for not falling for the dealership's offer of "paint sealant"... :dblthumb2:

Collinite 845(liquid) or 915(paste) if you are looking for a typical "wax"

If you do not like waxing then Opti-Coat 2.0 is a permanent solution.

A maintenance wax(spray wax) will greatly help when used with a regular wash cycle. I like Optimum Car Wax and Pinnacle Souveran spray wax.
