what is a good polish and wax?

Chemical guys V38 polisher and wax I would use the Chemical Guys 50/50 paste wax or if you got a nice color on the car Chemical Guys Lavaglow. For swirls use the V34 (Heavy), V36 (medium)

Here is my suggestion. Buy a roll of painters tape, and a bottle of Mothers cleaner wax from you auto parts store.

After your car is spotless, place a piece of tape on your hood. Use the Mothers re's on one side of it, remove the tape, see if it accomplishes what you are trying to achieve.
^^^Great suggestions!!^^^

I'll go further by asking you, OP:
-Do you have a polisher;
or, are you doing this by hand only?
-What is the current condition of your vehicle(s)?
-Is it/Are they daily-drivers (DD)?
-What is your expectations?

The FUN has just begun!! :)

I don't have a polisher but am thinking of getting the porter cable 7424 (I believe) so I'll do it by the porter cable. Current condition of my truck is good a few scratches here and there. I have a 2011 GMC Sierra 1500 Grey metallic in color. And it is my daily driver and my expectations are to keep in clean and shiny lol

What would your recommendations be?

And for the porter cable what brand and color of pads should I use and which color is for what?

Meguiar's ultimate compound and ultimate polish are good to learn with. It's over the counter and it's as close as you will get to the professional line up. I'm a fan of the entire ultimate line. It will help you keep your car looking good.

Thank you. So I know I was my truck then clay bar. So what do I do after that the ultimate compound or polish and then wax after that?

I want to know what is a good polish and wax I could buy that is good?

I haven't tried but a teeny tiny fraction of products AG offers, but my guess is that everything can provide good results. I would also guess that you (or anyone else for that matter) can't look at a professionally detailed car and say with any accuracy what kind of polish and wax was used to achieve the end result.

90% (I'm pulling that number out of a hat) of what makes a finish look great is the effort you put into it, not what products you used. In other words, knowledge and cheap products trumps ignorance and the best products...give Mike Phllips some $10.00 Turtle Wax, and he can probably make paint pop better than average Joe with zero detailing experience can with $195 Pinnacle Black Label Synergy.

So...what to buy? From your previous posts you mentioned getting a DA polisher. Get one of AG's kits that comes with pads and polish to start. Then choose whatever wax/sealant jumps out at you.

Sounds good and I appreciate the advice! And I'm sure I don't have to spend $100.00 on wax to make it look good. And like you said it's the effort you put into it.

That looks really good!
Do you use all Chemical Guys stuff?

Yes I do, I did a bad mistake on skipping out on using a cutting compound such as the V-36 since the car does tend to have swirls. The polisher did a great job on removing them and as well the wax gave it the final touch on the gloss. This is the step I used from CG:

1. Citrus Wash + Gloss
2. CG Clay bar with CG Luber (The car was dry)
3. CG:V-38 polisher (Portal Cable 7424XP with Green Hex pad)
4. [2 coats] Blacklight (waited 30 minutes between each coat; postal cable with Blue hex logic pad)
5. [2 coats] Hybrid V-7 (after each blacklight application)
6. Wet Mirror finish (1 coat, applied with blue hex logic pad)
7. [2 coats] Jetseal 109 (30 minutes between each coat; applied with red hex logic pad)
8. [1 coat] CG Black: Wax (applied with black hex logic pad)

***Each pad I primer it with Pad-Conditioner from CG***

You would
Wash
Clay
Ultimate Compound
Ultimate Polish
Ultimate wax - if you want to stay in the meguiar's family

Some like to add a layer of carnauba on top of a synthetic wax. In this case you could go with gold glass. It is optional. Or you could just use a maintenance product like ultimate quik detailer and ultimate quik wax.

I use Megs 101 followed by Megs 205 with the 101 on an orange LC pad and the 205 on a white LC Pad. However, I try just the 205 before going to the 101.

The only problem with this is that 101 is only sold in largish sizes (maybe a quart) and is a bit pricey as a result. There is an over the counter option (Megs Ulitimate Compound?) that would be almost as good as the 101.

Hi Ted,

Ultimate Compound is a great compound that has a good ammount of cut for an OTC product. However It doesnt have the cut anywhere near what 101 has.

You can also get 101 in smaller sampler bottles offered by other vendors online. Just FYI

Not sure what you have on hand so I'll give you something to go on.

Meguiar's Ultimate Compound which can be bought over the counter works really good for swirls and light scratches using a DA and an orange pad then follow up with Meguiar's 205 Ultra Fine Polish using either a white polishing pad or a black finishing pad.

If your not in a big hurry you can try and all in one.
Meguiar's D-151 is an all in one, cleans, polishes and protects, it works well providing you don't have heavy defects.
Very easy to work with.

The best IMO besides the Meguiar's 105 which has a learning curve is the Wolfgang Uber Compound, a bit pricy but works really well, finishes down nicely, it removes heavy defects but will leave the paint almost ready to apply your choice of wax/sealant.
Same deal, you would follow up using the 205.

After your done there's so many products out there to give your paint protection, one being Collinite 845 Insulator Wax, a very long lasting wax I may add and cheaper than most over the counter waxes.

You have so many choices here, sky is the limit , all depends how deep you want to dig down deep in your pockets. Lol

Good luck:)
