I'm going to head outside in a bit and clean out the gutters along the back of my house. Beyond that, we have plenty of food in the freezer we can cook if the power goes out.
Just some tips:
- In case you're in a flood zone and your water gets contaminated, fill up your (clean) bathtub with cold water before the storm hits so you can use it if needed for consumption, sponge bath, toilet flushing, etc. until it' safe to use municipal or well water again.
- It's good to have your fridge and freezer full in case of a power outage. Fill it with water bottles or gallons and it will take up the air space in the fridge. When you open the door, instead of all the cold air sinking out of the fridge into the house, you have a solid, cold object in place. This will help keep the fridge colder for longer. Of course, know what you're getting from the fridge before opening the door.
On another note, generator and transfer switch sales for the company I work for are going to spike!
