What is everyone's opinion on the Griots Garge products?

I have both their 6 and 3 inch dual action polishers, car wash, one step sealant, complete compound, fine glass polish and glass pads, BOSS fast correction cream, foam glass cleaner, clay, glass sealant, towels, probably missed something (oh yeah, leather care spray, spray on car wax, Speed Shine). I've built up Griot's via smart shopping and like the products. Since I started doing this part time professionally, Griot's fits certain needs. I am a fan of other brands and products as well. For the novice, car enthusiast or professional.

No, I do not have one..... yet! I plan on getting one. Lol. No way am I doing this big ol truck by hand. Lol. Will either pick up a gg or porter cable. But seems to me the gg da is probably alittle better.

Good! Here's a kit to get started with:

Griot’s Garage 6 inch Random Orbital Correct & Finish Combo LIMITED TIME ONLY!

Stepping down to a 5" BP over the 6" BP that comes with the machine is a very wise move - it will allow you to use smaller (and thinner) 5.5" pads for faster correction.

You'll still need more pads, microfiber towels, clay, polish, an LSP... could go with an AIO in order to save some $. There are a lot of options for your consideration.

Knowing your buget/ expectations upfront will help narrow down what combo of the above to go with.

I've been very happy with the vast majority of them. I happily use all of the BOSS Cremes (FCC, CC, PC and FS), Speed Shine, Best of Show liquid and paste wax, PolyWax (actually is a sealant and a GREAT one), Spray on wax (very hard to beat for the price), PFM towels, wash soap (the pink one), long lasting tire shine, BOSS pads, GG6 and BOSS G15 polishers. The only product of theirs that doesn't blow me away is the standard (green) wheel cleaner. It works, but doesn't foam and requires a fair amount of product to do what other products do with less product.

...and the service experience to date has been stellar. The company is built around making and keeping customers happy - much like AG does as well. Not all companies can make that claim.

GG6 good (5 inch backplate)
G15 good
GG3 don't like them at all. They should discontinue them.
Boss creams good stuff!!
Poly Wax it's ok
Speed shine and spray wax is good.
Interior Cleaner and leather care is good
Clay Bar it's ok
Just ordered the iron and fallout remover....

Customer support is great!!!

Been a customer since 2005, rock solid products and GREAT customer service to back it up, the Gold standard!

Microfiber BOSS pads are the best

I Have their G21 and GG6 setup with 3inch BOSS pads. Killer combo and very satisfied.

When I run out of Menzerna Polishes I'll be switching to BOSS creams too.

The GG3 is like an entirely different tool with thin pads. You should give it another chance with 3" BOSS pads or LC Thin Pros.

Thanks guys, this is what I was hoping to hear. I like that a good product is sold locally. I will be picking up that combo Angus posted a link to in the next month or so.

Next move will be understanding what products I should buy first. I have a 2017 black silverado, after reading on the geek I have learned that my washing method is not up to par. I have a few light swirl marks and water spots I need to get rid of.

My thoughts are wash with the 2bwm. ( just bought 2 new buckets this weekend)

Then dry. (I'll need a good drying towel which one?)

Decontamination using a clay bar. Is any clay bar ok for this process?

After the clay bar, I am then confused on what to do for my next step? Is the complete compound a all in one? Or what should I use to get rid of swirls?

After that is done. Use a wax or Polish not sure which one?

Them to touch up after drives cause my work lot is a little dusty, do I get the detail spray or best of show spray or something different?

Sorry for asking so many questions, just got alot to learn after reading on the geek here for a while. I got to really step up my detail game. Lol

Thanks for all your guys help .

I have a 2017 Silverado (black) scheduled at the end of March. I'll be using GG polishes and G21 along with other tools. I'll do a write up when done so you can see how well GG products work on GM trucks.

Might be a better idea to buy from the sponsor of the forum that has provided you with the means to educate yourself and improve your skills.

What are people thoughts on these products? Should I maybe use something else or do these work good for people.

Thanks

Good products.just like any other company some stuff is good and some is not.

I wouldn't limit yourself to locally sold products. If you live in an area like I do, good products are simply not available locally. Shops might carry a few items by a good brand like Griots, but nowhere near the full line.

I'd look for a good, soft microfiber drying towell. There are many to choose from here at AG. I discovered once I quit using Absorbers and other synthetic chamois, I have far fewer swirls from drying.

Decontamination using a clay bar. Is any clay bar ok for this process?

I tend to go with the lower priced clay bars and have had no issues at all. I really like the Meguiars clay kit

This is where the process branches and you can go a couple directions.
1) Compound/Polish to fully correct the paint and get it ready for a wax/sealant/coating. Just remember to use the least aggressive product first to see if it gets the results you want. No need to polish off more clear coat than needed.
2) Use an AIO. This will lightly polish your vehicle AND wax it all in one step. The down side is AIO's often aren't as aggressive as a polish, and they typically don't last as long as a dedicated sealant.

After that is done. Use a wax or Polish not sure which one?

This depends on what you did on the step above. If you compounded/polished, then you now apply the wax/sealant. If you used an AIO, then you could be done if you were happy with the results. Some people do actually top the AIO with another wax or sealant to improve durability.

Them to touch up after drives cause my work lot is a little dusty, do I get the detail spray or best of show spray or something different?

This is where you need to be VERY careful with a black vehicle. My answers might not be the popular one, but here is my opinion...remember, just my opinion.

On my black car, I don't do "touch ups" when it gets dusty. If it's dirty and I don't have time to do a proper wash, I just let it get dirty and wait until I can give it a bucket wash. I've found it's VERY easy to mar/swirl black paint when doing quick detailer touch-ups or waterless washes, so I just don't do it. I'll use a QD spray to get off bird droppings right away, but I only clean the immediate spot and nothing else.

Sorry for asking so many questions, just got alot to learn after reading on the geek here for a while. I got to really step up my detail game. Lol

You have to learn somewhere. The really important thing I found was to read, read, and read some more. If you have a hard time finding the answer using the site search, use Google on the topic and you'll see this site will almost always be in the top search results and go from there.

I'm new to this as well, so take with a grain of salt. I own a truck and a large SUV. Both are dark in color. Both are a PITA to keep clean. All in ones are great because you have a lot of surface area to cover. They're great if you start with a good surface, and they're great to touch it up once a year. I'll probably go to a routine of an AIO in the spring, with periodic waxing, then use a dedicated sealant in the fall to give better protection through the winter.

http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/show-n-shine/108017-mother-laws-ford-edge.html

That took me 14 hours, 11 of which I was actually working on the car. I did nothing to the trim, or the interior. It's no small task. I abandoned the 3 step (compound/polish/seal) because it was taking too long, and the law of diminishing returns took over. It's a daily driver, that isn't well cared for, and hasn't had anything done to it in months. When I do my wife's car, I'll probably take the same approach because I can get away with two passes over the car, instead of 3. Once it's good, I'll maintain it so that I can go to the approach my truck gets. I may even go to a coating on it for more protection.

One last thing, get lots of pads. I have 12 CCS pads (5 orange, 5 white, 2 black) and I still have to clean them as I go. I'll be buying some thin pros for AIO as the closed-cell pads have some issues with it as documented here. I also think they'll give me a little better performance out of my PC.

Just Polished my windows and did a headlight restoration. I'm a happy man again.
Buff daddy makes a 32mm bp and extensions for the GG3. Tempting

I love the griots line, in fact I love using the gg6 polisher over anything else, I sold my others, it's super easy to use and anyone can get great results with this. In the past I was really about cutting all the defects and polishing to perfection, but Mike Phillips once me and told me about using all-in-one products to maintain a daily drivers. Nevertheless I got a perfect test car to try it on this weekend, here is a pic of a car I detailed this weekend using griots finishing sealant and gg6/gg3 polishers. Took me 8 hours but the owners were super happy and so was I because I probably did the right thing for them. Cut a little as possible, enhance, and protect in one step plus saved a lot of time and money.

Im getting ready to do a heavier correction on mine and will probably be using the correcting cream/fast correcting cream/perfecting cream combo then coating it but the hype is real, this product was super easy to wipe off, didnt gum off a lot, worked in direct sun, no dust whatsoever.

Oh I forgot to add, I love the SUNMATCH by Scangrip.

i bought my GG6 right when the second generation came out and couldn't believe how much more powerful it was to the PC. it's such a fantastic tool (it's been proven for many years) and with all the pros that come with it, it's a no brainer when it comes to someone who needs to buy a new PC-style DA...

Hows the 2nd gen? I've only got to try the 3rd gen, but its been steller so far! It definitely didnt bog down at all! Also does yours get hot around the black surrounding? Mine was hot to touch where if I left my hand on it I would burn myself up. Im not sure if it was because I was constantly on the machine? I didnt notice any smell however and I used a correct extension. The ergonomics of this machine is wonderful. I like the U shaped handle grip it feels real firm as well as the rubber grip so you can rest your palm on it.

Agree the ThinPro pads change this from a dud to a stud.

It is also one of the best wax application tools I have used.
