and what Pad and Polish combination did the job ?

Feed back please

I met a guy that painted a Ferrari and then tried to sand and buff the paint. The paint was so hard the sanding marks could not be buffed out and he repainted the car.

I've recounted this story a number of places on the forum, but probably too hard to search for it without good key search words.

:)

Personally, my dads C6 Corvette paint. I only had and still have my trust Porter Cable 7424XP. I ended up having to use a Lake Country Purple Foamed Wool pad with M105. This was before I knew about Surbuf and Microfiber pads.

I have heard about how hard Lamborghini paints can be. Almost makes you not want to detail one. Just kidding. :D

1.) A C6 Victory Red (Chili Pepper) Corvette's Clear-Coat Paint Film.

2.) Pad/Polish:

First: Where I deemed necessary ("spot polishing"):
-LC Orange/Meg's UC
Then:
-3M Perfect-it Foam Polishing Pad/3M Finesse-it II Finishing Material/Machine Polish (05928)
Lastly:
-Wypall L40/3M Imperial Hand Glaze (05990)

Now it's your turn, Theostoubos!

The hardest clear I laid my pads on was a 2006 VW Jetta.

(I know what you think... Not nearly as exciting or exotic as the Corvette) but it took 2-3 section passes of either Menzerna Power Gloss or Megs M105 on an LC Purple Wool Pad to correct the RIDS I had to deal with. That was with my Flex PE 14-2.

Then I finished with my Favorite Menzerna PO85 RD on an LC HT Crimson Pad.

-Thanks for your response.
-Sounds like you had a good plan! :props:

-For the sake of the Corvette's clear-coat's integrity, there's a few Rids it may have to live with.

-Too bad some folks just don't get it: DO Not Touch!!

-At least my motto is not this:

If it ain't yours, break it.

90% of the Chryslers I have touched.

Most recently a 2008 Red Charger.

I know what you mean. I recently acquired that Jetta and I HAD to bring it back to where it should be. At least in my mind. I could not even imagine how much of a "don't touch psycho" I would be if I had a corvette or any other nice car.

I also recently moved from Europe to North America, so most of "Clear Coat" experience is that on European cars.

I haven't had the chance to do a BMW yet, but ive heard notorious stories about how hard they can be.

Time will tell...

Theo

Ferrari Enzo has bullet proof paint , you have to wool that car to get a decent correction.
also i found an 1200cc motorcycle bmw that had hard clear.

Ive done 100's of BMW's and man is it tough, especially the M cars.

I did a Gallardo Spyder a few weeks back, the weird thing was the clear was normal hardness everywhere but the panel covering the engine was insanely hard.

haven't buffed many cars but I have struggled with a BMW before. I also know from my powder coating business that the paint and primer on BMW wheels is very hard to strip. Chemical strippers that will sheet regular automotive paint off in a matter of minutes take hours to eat away the BMW epoxy primer.

Porsche Cayenne !!! Vipers and corvettes. Most aircraft paint.

:iagree: on the aircraft paint - as well as the school bus paint - SUPER HARD....

By the way Joe - saw your site the other day and MAN I was super impressed! Amazing how many nice rides, birds and buses you have done. You are definitely a detailing beast my friend :dblthumb2: - :urtheman:
