What is this color on the white pad?

Dirt-Stained_Paint_001.jpg

1: The paint is basecoat/clearcoat.

2: I used a waterless wash first to wash the car.

3: I followed that with a clay lube and a Speed Master Clay Towel to remove all the above surface contamination.

Now follow me,

After the wiping the waterless wash over the paint.

Then rubbing the clay towel over the paint.

Then wiping the paint a second time to remove the clay lube reside.

After wiping the paint 3 times, (and I'm pretty good at this), you would think any loose dirt would be off the paint? Right?

So what is the color on the pad after buffing the clearcoat paint?

:dunno:

Mike, is this a trick question? The color reminds me of 3M machine glaze which is gray. Was it not the product?

EDIT:. Just saw your other thread. New product

In honor of this being a Mopar you’re
working on, I’m going with a color from
the PPG palette known as “Shadow Taupe”.

If your clay process was not changing color on that nor showing anything then my GUESS is that the color difference would be oxidation of the clear coat itself.

Road film, road grime, dirt in paint (DIP)... Basically crud from the evironment we drive in that gets embedded into the paint and is only removed from polishing the paint. A lot of people tend to forget that when you are polishing paint not only are you removing scratches, but you are also giving the paint a thorough deep cleaning and exfoliation at the same time and it shows up on the pads.

How to remove stains and embedded dirt out of paint

Road Film - If you drive your car in the rain your car has road film

Here's why you need to polish paint...

I will be very technical Crap on your paint. No matter how many times you wipe there is dirt left on the surface of the paint. When you buff you remove that crap!
