Hey guys,

Finally got around to wanting to detail my DD/project '97 Jetta. Washed her, dried her then started to clay and this is what came off on my clay bar:

Never had the contaminants come off red. Just curious as to what this could be.

Thanks guys.

Looks like Jetfuel to me. Do you live/work near an Airport?

Could possibly be overspray

I live about an hour from the airport in Atlanta. The car is green(as pictured) which is why I was wondering about overspray.

I guess its a possibility it was Jetfuel. Usually I see this from FedEx is why I ask

Did it come off pretty easy?

What your seeing is red ;)

Red stuff, natch!

Who knows, it's had 14 years to accumulate gunk, could be overspray, could be some sort of tree stuff. It is a little unusual, but I wouldn't worry about it.

blood from the squirrel you ran over without knowing it.

Yes, came off pretty easily. The paint still cleans up fairly nice, especially for it's age, after a good wash. The car's paint is pretty gritty feeling, and I am assuming that whatever this is is the culprit.

The clay is defective. Whatever you have left of it, ship to me immediately :)

Great thought on the jet fuel.

Not true ^

A 767 dumps around 500 gallons on take off, so anything within its path is in jeporardy

I think 767's were after my time, but nothing should be dumping anything on takeoff, unless they have to come back and land before they burn off enough to get back to landing weight...but you are in Memphis, where FedEx flies the wings off everything they have, so what do I know. Wait, I do know...from what I know it's more likely hydraulic fluid leaking out of that FedEx plane, but I'll never tell!
