I used the search function and I found Mike's Post regarding on how to show swirl and another member explanting the different between manual mode, auto, and etc... I couldnt found what kind of camera you guys use!

Right now I have a point and shoot Canon Elph 320 and its doing an "okay" job showing the swirl, scratches.

I was just wondering what everyone else use and if I get a entry-level DSLR and invest in a decent Macro Lens, will I be able to get better pictures? Color of the vehicle? and etc?

Any input or recommendation will be greatly appreciated

Canon 7D
Canon 17-55 2.8IS
Canon 85 1.8
Canon 135 f2L
Sigma 100-300 f4

... I believe you are talking about my thread regarding the basics of exposure?

Anyways, I have:

Nikon D5100 body
Nikon D7000 body

12-24mm f/4
35mm f/1.8G
50mm f/1.8G
70-300mm f/4.5-5.6

As well as a variety of other accessories (tripod, speedlights, etc)

A definite investment, but I'm a photogeek as much as I am an autogeek.

Yes Sir! It is you! I enjoy your Show'N"shine alot!

But all the camera you guys listed are starting at like $600 just for the body! let along the lens

What do you guys think about just a Rebel t3 as my starting camera??

Don't be afraid to look at used. You could get a killer deal on something like a Nikon D300. Glass/lenses are the most important, but for your needs, a regular "kit" lens would suffice.

Kind of like detailing, photography takes technique too. Having the best stuff may not yield the best pics.

For example, just my phone:

Some swirled factory fresh paint:

My point is that perhaps you can already achieve the results you are looking for with the equipment you have.

Sony A65. 24.3MP sensor, 10FPS. A good beginner/intermediate DSLR, need more lenses though, only have the 18-55mm that came with it.

I see what you mean! But I just wonder if I can get better result from upgrading to a DSLR? Also, with DSLR I can get a remote and set it on tripo and upgrade to other lens! Point and shoot I can only use so much of its function

What camera phone do you have that allows such shallow depth of field as in some of those photos?
