Just curious.

For me it's an iMac: 2GHz G5, 20" screen. Added 1GB of RAM to the existing 512MB. Bought it around May of 2005. Still going strong, but Apple's switch to the dual core Intel chips along with introducing a 24" screen dates it quickly...the nature of PCs I suppose. But I'm still happy with mine. :)

A 20" screen is nice and you can never no much enough RAM. I write finanical software and have 3 laptops, 2 servers and a couple of desktops. All running different versions of windows. Computers are Toshiba, HP and Dell.

We have two Toshiba laptops and an HP desktop. I prefer my laptop......it's 2-3 years old, 3.06 P IV with 1 gig of ram which will be 1.5 (maxed out) come Friday, 15.4" screen. It may be obsolete but it just keeps on keepin' on so I see no reason to replace it. Obsolete these days means more than two weeks old:p

1.8 Ghz 512 MB Ram, 80 GB hdd + 500 GB external drive Desktop
I don't know the specs on my laptop. Both running XP.

I have to much to list. I build all my own machines and I work on computers for a living. MY own current system is a DualCore 3.2, 2GB ram, 320GB HDD, plus two additional backup drives, Multiple optical drives and a Nvidia 7600GT video card. As I type this I'm on my laptop at work which is a Athlon64 3000+

Here's a Florida company for some computer build fun www.tigerdirect.com. It's also addicting for researching how to upgrade your computer or build one from scratch. Looks like something that we all can do. I haven't built one yet but hope to do it. Think that you get a heck of a machine for half the cost.

Office/Play at home - HP with nice surround sound and 21" flat screen.

Office/Play at work or wherever - new HP latop that's awsome, fast and efficient, 17" widescreen etc. Even has a remote control that I can use while web browings, watching movies or other stuff :D

Tiger Direct is excellent for computer stuff, but I find it to be a little on the expensive side. I recommend www.pricewatch.com You can find pretty much the same stuff, for cheaper! There's where I'm buying my stuff for me new comp...

I have a Dell Dimension and three Dell laptops. No complaints! I'm waiting until Vista comes out before buying a new one.

Whatever you get don't get a celeron processer.

I have two Dell laptops and a Toshiba, and the Toshiba with the Celeron processor is a piece of crap. As my Toshiba TV is turining out to be, as well. I love my Dells, though.

I also gave my aunt and uncle my 8-year old Dell desktop and it still processes things quickly and flies around the internet. I mention that only because it speaks to quality.

Pretty much any computer you buy new these days is going to have decent enough specs for every day use (unless you're heavy into gaming), so brand, processor, and bells & whistles (DVD burner, etc) are going to be the biggest concern.

I'd also caution against jumping on Vista as soon as it comes out. I've heard it's really, really buggy. A year or two down the road they'll probably have many of the bugs worked out.

My $0.02. :)

HP DV6000

1.83 GHz Centrino Duo 2 processor
2.00GB RAM
Windows XP Home (no need for pro or media center)
built in webcam
15.4" special true life screen
normal CD-RW drive (not double layer)

The only thing I didn't upgrade when I bought it was the 2.00 GHz processor, the double layer CD/DVD RW drive, and XP pro/media center. I sold my Dell Inspiron 6000 (hated it) for this about 3-4 months ago. Havent had one problem with my HP and I LOVE it. Fast, fast, and fast for me. One of the greatest machines I've ever bought.

I should of purchased a Dell but got hooked on portability and gaming so I purchased an Alienware Area 51 laptop. Almost purchased a Voo Doo but it was even more expensive than the Alienware was. A little over three years and still running strong.
