What new products would you like to see introduced at SEMA?

SEMA is about 2 weeks away... can anyone else think of new products they would like to see introduced?

A cheaper but quality paint gauge. A return of meguiars type slide-lock brush. A detailing chair that is the height of a creeper with a braking system so when you apply pressure on the car you don't move backwards. The covers used to protect rims while treating or dressing tires in the 17" to 20" plus range. Tire covers in the same sizes.CR spotless water filter thats not $400.00. I know a lot of expensive products are worth the price but I hate passing on the cost to the customer.

Ha ha... that's a good one... I like roll around chairs but like you say, if you don't lock the wheels you push away from the car when you push your buffer against the car...

The Kreepstool for the record does have locking wheels and I do use it for some projects. It's been real popular here lately during our Autogeek Car of the Week projects.

- Trim restorer and protectant to equal or surpass GTechniq C4
- Paint/exterior decontamination system that does what IronX/TarX, the FK system, and ValuGard ABC do, but all in one step.
- Paint prep along the same lines as CP Eraser

I also agree with Mike. A thicker more durable clear coat. It could also be more durable and bird bomb proof.

Oh Yeh !! Better quality and cheaper microfiber towels.

Detailing products that I would like to see sometime soon:

- M101- For those of us who push the edge of DA polishing, this is something we really need.

- A DA polisher that is comfortable to use, has a 5/16 stroke, extremely free-spinning bearing, not forced rotation, switch on top, UL listed, and costs $400.

- D300 without any fragrance - Great compound, but my allergies go on the fritz for a few days after using said product.

- M86 with DA approved labeling.

- A gel wheel cleaner like Sonax Full Effect, but is more cost effective.

- A product like D301, but without the wax.

Good suggestion... it's always easier and even better to recommend a product that's in keeping with the manufactures "official" recommendation versus going against it especially if you represent the manufacturers products.

I would love to see this too.

People are always saying that D301 isn't getting the love it
deserves. I suspect it's because some of us like to follow
a one or two step polish with a sealer. D301 just doesn't
lend itself to that.

I was with you up until the $400 part... it would have to have a lifetime warranty and be rock-solid reliable for me to jump in at that price point.

And has been the trend for some time now and at this time is the foreseeable trend into the future...

I think what we're seeing largely is that DA polishers ARE the future. Rotaries aren't going anywhere in the foreseeable future, but I can see the use of DAs eventually equaling or outpacing rotary use in a lot of environments as the industry becomes increasingly aware of them.

A sprayable version of the "permanent" coatings currently being offered. I would love to put Opti-coat on my mesh-style wheels, but it would take way too long by wiping it on.

You can transfer OC to a little pump mist bottle and spray on your wheels and wipe off with an MF cloth! I bought a bunch of 2.5 oz mist bottles after Chris demonstrated this delivery system. I have done 5 vehicles with an MF pad and a mister. I apply it like UPGP.

Back in 2003 while at Meguiar's I wrote a report called The Zaino Case Study and in it I included a list of recommendations of which one was to introduce an all synthetic paint sealant without any Carnauba and without any cleaners of any type. The result from that report and a lot of other behind the scenes work was NXT Tech Wax. M21 was an offshoot of NXT Tech Wax.

While in my report I stated that the product could not and should not have any cleaners or cleaning ability, Meguiar's in their wisdom included cleaners because this would be a retail wax and the average person only wants to do two things to their car,

• Wash it
• Wax it

Since the average person is washing and waxing a daily driver and the paint on daily drivers gets stained and dirty, (the kind of staining and dirt that doesn't wash off), this means waxes targeted at the general population need to be cleaner/waxes. Thus in their wisdom they included cleaners in NXT.

I still have the original FAQ's for NXT and M21.

When Meguiar's launched M21 since it was going into the Professional Line, to be used by a wide spectrum of people in the detailing industry, it too need some type of cleaning ability because most production detailing is done using a one-step product on neglected finishes.

But for the record, my original concept paper for NXT stated it should not have any cleaning ability and thus no cleaners as I know what the market wanted back then and from your post... still wants today.

I've used CQuartz like this also. It's probably not as economical but in my opinion it's easier, faster and more effective.

I think that about covers the main things I'm looking for.

This is a GREAT list Charly! BTW I think we will see a new version of ONR too. I noticed that ONR quarts are on BOGO!

Seems strange, given the sales volume and market share Meguiar's has, that they can't produce a line of products for the "niche market" of high end detailers and enthusiasts to use (Barry's Best; Meguiar's "Ultimate Reserve"; "Signature Selection/Collection").... but I'm sure there is a business case against it that we just aren't aware of.
