What new products would you like to see introduced at SEMA?

Seems strange, given the sales volume and market share Meguiar's has, that they can't produce a line of products for the "niche market" of high end detailers and enthusiasts to use (Barry's Best; Meguiar's "Ultimate Reserve"; "Signature Selection/Collection").... but I'm sure there is a business case against it that we just aren't aware of.

IMO our niche market just isn't relevant when your consumer products are going out to maybe 10,000+ chain stores (Wal-Mart, Target, Pep Boys, Auto Zone, etc.), and your MG and Detailer lines are in just as many PBE's, body shops, dealers, detail shops, etc.

Topic came up all the time when I was there...

Key words being business case, lots of factors that affect their business model, nothing bad, just lots of different factors... Maybe since 3M owns them now they might bring out some high-end boutique type products but when I was there the idea had a lot of support but never any traction...

It was certainly never because they couldn't do it...

:)

Man I miss going to SEMA. Used to own a race shop and went every year. I took my wife the first year. That was a mistake! I was in paradise and she was hating life... Next year I took a few of my mechanics... HELL OF A LOT MORE FUN!!!

PS, if you have any more passes, I would be happy to take one... :)

Funny!

I was with you up until the $400 part... it would have to have a lifetime warranty and be rock-solid reliable for me to jump in at that price point.

Here's my thinking: It seems like many people are willing to put down the money for a quality polisher, like a Flex. Truly high quality DA electric sanders do exist, but they're made by Fein and cost upwards of $800. If Flex were to make a DA polisher as I described in the $400 price range, I'm sure quite a few detailers would pick one up.

I'd like to see a mainstream brand last step product (sealant) that looks very nice, easy on & off, long lasting, but water floods off of it rather than beads.

Considering the number of people who are on the Flex bandwagon (including myself to a certain extent), you're probably right. Flex build quality *might* just be worth the price, though I can't see a free-floating DA costing more than the 3401.

I know it wont happen, but I would really like to see Meguiars come out with a high end sealant and wax. It's been mentioned, and Mike made it clear with his post as to why we don't have it. But I still want it.

Also, I think Meguiars needs to come out with an updated version of APC+ that is more like OPC.

Agreed on both counts. Perhaps simply a US-legal version of M16? I love that stuff!!

I would go for it!

Opti-Slick topper for the Opti Coat/ Opti Guard that would make make it feel slicker than Owl Snot

I'm not familiar with Owl Snot...is it sold at Autogeek? Kidding aside, I agree, a slick topper for Opti-Coat is a great idea.

It may have to do with their distribution channels. I suspect while it may sell well to internet sellers it would not do as well OTC. I mean if NXT costs $16 then some special brand would likely be much higher. Marine products are more expensive but they have their own market.

Another name could be Opti-Coat-Coater. :xyxthumbs:

Its very hard to come by. It's not V.O.C. compliant and the factory is on the endangered species list.

Gotta think outside the box.... follow the owls around and pick up their used Kleenex. Simple. :xyxthumbs:

I don't think it matters whether they sold it OTC or not, it's just not a big enough market segment to interest them. Remember it wasn't worth it to reformulate #16 for VOC compliance (not like there are no paste waxes that are VOC compliant), and they dropped products like #38 because there wasn't a big enough market for them.

Agreed with that, it's like M16 is a lost diamond. Make a version that can be sold in america and I bet it would FLY off the shelf's.

There are tons of pads out but that seams to be the thing that keeps changing. I think a few different chemicals like APC, degreaser, wheel cleaner, stuff in bulk would be nice.

But it wasn't flying off the shelves at the time it was discontinued, which is why they decided not to create a VOC-compliant version of it. Why would it fly off the shelves now?
