The wife's SUV was looking a little tired so I took some time and refinished the paint. I used HDCut, HDPolish and finally HDPoxy and got it looking really good. Problem is, it doesn't look "deep". Should I, or is it even possible to, apply some sort of topping wax to it? Maybe a coating of some kind instead? The color is a very dark blue metallic.

Welcome to autogeek, your most likely looking for an carnauba based wax a good one would be meguiars gold class paste wax you can get it at your local auto store, it will darken your paintwork while adding depth just like an high dollar wax

This is why I don't like HD products, but you can top it with a good wax from pinnacle, auto finesse or so1nc. They are all good ones

You'd really like BF Midnight Sun paste wax on that dark blue metallic!

I have a blue metallic mustang. Pinnacle souveran really makes it pop. Have a jar of synergy on the way to compare but take a look at souveran!

This just after HD Polish

This after Poxy. In the sun the amount of depth, and gloss is crazy! Endless depth!

I like to suggest ideas with pictures. 4 days later I topped with Megs Carnouba Plus paste wax for a photo shoot the owner was having of this car. It darkened the Metallic Blue and looked like glass after one coat.

You might want to try a different machine/pad/polish combo. Different paints respond to different products and or techniques. For example my 05 Sorento(white) likes M105 or M205 with the flex 3401/orange pad for correction, then Optimum finshing polish with the PC/black pad speed 5 before i'm satisfied with the gloss and depth. But my '11 370Z(Black) just needs the Optimum hyper 1-2 combo with the Flex, on 6-5, orange & white pads to make her glow. Try mixing it up a little, good luck.

Thanks for all the replies! I'm pleased with the results from the HD stuff. It dusted a bit but was much better than products I've used in the past. All the swirls were removed which was my goal and the Poxy darkened up the paint and gave it a richer tone but it still doesn't have the deep paint look that I see in some of the cars on this site. Maybe my expectations are the issue and not the products? It looks to be close to the results BayAreaTech posted on the cobra. I think I'll try topping it with a carnauba wax.

What's the best method for applying with a machine?
Thanks for the help!

Are you sure you are not looking at DA haze left from the polishing step?

Without breaking the bank.... Meguiar's M26 (either paste or liquid) has an excellent 'look' and a long respected DOI (Distinction Of Image) rating that is up there with (if not better than) most products out there. When you build in the cost factor.... nothing comes close (without spending 3, 4, 5+ times as much). It's certainly easy (and cheap) enough to 'try'. :props:

Personally, with a good HQ 'nuba, I would apply by hand. Some are wipe on/wipe off too, so using a machine for that process would be tiresome.

What about collinite 915? I've read on here that it's very good especially conidering the price.

I noticed the other night when following the car in mine that when she made a left turn and my headlights shined on the side of her car it had a sort of 'milky' look. Looking at it in the sun it looks great though. If it's DA haze, what do I do to fix it? Before I applied the poxy I did an IPA wipedown.
