What polish to use before M205?

So I am getting ready to place a new order for some products. I know M205 gets good reviews and I need something to use before it. My car is babied and only has light swirls and scratches so I need a very non-agressive polish that I can use before M205. I have some wolfgang total swirl remover laying around but it that to aggressive to remove light swirls?

If you only have light swirls and scratches try looking at the Wolf Gang twins. Total Swirl Remover 3.0 and Finishing Glaze 3.0. If you top it all off with the WG sealant you will be in great shape.
 
M-205 will remove light swirls and scratches on it's own, providing the clear isn't super hard. M-105 is typically the compound to use before 205. Using another polish before M-205 will likely yield negligible results.

What year make and model vehicle are you working on and what color is the paint?

I do have the finishing glaze too. I found the swirl remover was a pain to wipe off after polishing. Was it because I did not work it in enough? Doesn't a glaze fill in swirls though and not correct them? correct me if I'm wrong though.

2009 BMW 328i with Monaco Blue Metallic paint.
 
You should get better replies now that the other members know what you're working on. I personally have no experience with Monaco blue (I don't think) but I've corrfected some fine swirls and scratches on many cars with rather hard clear using 205.
 
The new Meguairs M-100 is giving some fantastic results. You might want to give that one a try. Its a big more agressive than D300.
 
I just did a 2011 Z4 in this color. See my avatar. I found the CC to be rather hard. The car only had 4K miles but was a train wreck. I had to use LC Yellow pad and M105 to get the RID’s out then had to step down to the WG twins to remove the swirls of the M105. It would have been much easier if I would have had a forced rotation DA but at the time I was using a GG 6” DA. Keeping a fresh pad will help a lot as well.

So the WG total swirl remover and finishing glaze should be fine for removing the the light swirls on mine. I don't want to spend more money then I have to, but I don't want to keep wearing down my clear coat with a really aggressive polish.
 
I would try the WG twins first then if you need the M105 you can pick it up at your local auto store. Local price on the M105 is very high but when in a pinch, you do what you have to. The new M101 is designed for foam pads, so if you have the time and need something more aggressive, you can order from AG and have it in short order.

Why buy something new? This is coming from a WG and Menz user,

The 205 should work great for light swirls on its own, if a less aggressive pad doesn't work then step up the pad and then back down to finish out if needed.

He has the WG not the Meg 205. (If I read this correctly)

Are you sure you didnt mean to say "non aggresive polish that I can use AFTER M205? That would make alot more sense to me, because if you have light swirls that M205 could handle on its own, why go more aggresive? Get a high quality glaze after using M205.

If you are using proper technique and a DA polisher you should only be removing 1-2 microns (if that) of CC to polish out "light swirls." Even if you use a heavier cutting compound like M105 or D300 as long as you inspect your work frequently and stop polishing when the defects are removed you will not be needlessly removing excess CC. M105 or D300 are perfect compounds to start with since they use SMAT so you don't have to work them through a complete buffing cycle. Simply stop polishing once the defects are removed and then finish with your M205 to remove any haze and amp up the gloss.
 
Thanks for the advice guys. Meant to say not as aggressive compound but not a finishing polish.
 
M205 is pretty versatile. Try using a pad that cuts more instead of trying a more aggressive polish.

Ultimate compound is pretty good if you go the other route though.
 
A ton of people will say M105.

I prefer D300 or Ultimate Compound. Very close in cut, BUT much longer work times along with low dusting make them winners in my book!

And if UC or D300 dont touch it, you probably need a MF pad or a rotary. Keep in mind you can add in a touch of 105 for those tough spots!
