Let's say someone's been using a sealant and wants to simply take it off to try and different product. Instead of layering sealants that may not provide the desired result, what's the best way to remove a sealant that's been applied? Not a coating, but a sealant like OptioSeal, HydroSeal, etc.
Can you simply take a product like Prep-All or IPA and go over each panel, or is something more required. This vehicle's pre-sealant polishing is perfect...just want to remove what's there to try a different LSP to see how it looks.
Thoughts?

Polishing is the best way to know 100% that you removed the previous sealant is to polish it off

I was hoping someone would +1 Prep-All. It's something I have and it's super easy to use. I simply want to try a different sealant, and the finish has already been polished and if flawless (or close).

No...I want to try a new sealant...NOT a new paint color.

I've never heard of Prep-All for removing wax/sealant/etc., it removes coatings too without polishing?

So what if you wanted to strip a car down that has just had a couple of layers of Meguirs wax and countless applications of Meguirs details spray. Looking for a clean slate to do paint correction and sealant/wax?

Most of the guys I talk to use Dawn dish soap to strip it down, but these are guys just detailing their own car, not professionals.

Thoughts?

If you are compounding.. that will remove whatever happens to survive the claying step

Yes...PrepSol that FUNX725 has on his list is another one that I've heard does really well. Bob...is one better than another, or all the same?

You could just run it through a touchless car wash. That's gauranteed to strip your protection

I guess I'd stick with Prep-all because it has LESS stuff in it. That's really good info.

If you guys are posting these products on this forum I'm sure they're okay but let me ask anyway. How is Prep-All on clearcoats?

I guess you can use whatever works for you. IPA won't remove durable sealants. Prep All and mineral spirits will. One member is using HF acid to clean paint. That will remove your LSP. Seems to work for him.

However, if it was be, I would just use a non-abrasive paint cleaner, or something like the DP coating prep polish.

I've used prep-all forever to after polishing to remove and polishing oils, dust, etc, etc...and it works GREAT. In fact, if you watch and of the videos that HD/3D makes, you'll see they use prep-all when polishing also. Supposedly it's better that IPA (I think it's a lot better). It's very common in body shops and used on fresh paint prior to other work, so it must be safe.
I asked the question because I wanted to know if it was strong enough to remove sealant...but like I said, I know it works to prep a polished surface for wax or sealant...I've used it for years with no adverse affects.
