Hi,
This is my first post, and the reason I converted from Lurker to member is because I could not find foam gun or foam cannon vids with really dirty vehicles, almost all vids have a somewhat clean vehicle to start with, or clean according to what my DD usually looks like. My truck sees dirt roads year round and salt cover roads in the winter, and when the spring thaw starts the dirt roads turn to a real mess. I will be purchasing either a foam gun or a foam cannon, I have not decided on which one as of yet. What I need is soap recommendations for my truck, I am looking for a soap that will carry the dirt, sand, salt and grime from my paint. I plan on foaming as a start and then rinsing the foam and loosened dirt away before I wash. I usually have to wash my truck every 2-3 days during the sloppy muddy snowy weather.

THANKS
JOKER

Really quick...do you want something with polymers to leave a sealant/wax behind, or would you like straight soap, obviously lubes and glazes would be ok to prevent marring, but, would you like to avoid putting some polymers on there that would stay behind when you dry?

For heavy dirt and muck like that I recommend Chemical Guys Citrus Wash and CLEAR. Gentle enough to avoid stripping wax if used in right dilutions but strong enough to melt off grime. Isn't the most sudsy soap for use in the gun / cannon but a good soap. Especially since your maintenance washes aren't just for light dust / dirt.

Second recommendation: you honestly can't go wrong on the price with Megs Gold Class.

I don't know never thought about that. What do you recommend for my application?

IMO you want to pressure wash that bad stuff off before you wash. It will be the kinetic action of the water that carries away the gross dirt before you do your contact wash, there are plenty of excellent soaps.

Nice truck! Like others have said, first and foremost you want to use high pressure water to blast the majority of the dirt and grime off the paint before you start washing it. If you don't have a pressure washer, simply head over to the local coin-operated DIY car wash and use their high pressure water to rinse it off.

With a truck that big, you might want to consider picking up a FOAM GUN. It will make washing MUCH easier (and fun!).

One my favorite soaps is by DP....Power Wash.

Up Close & Personal: DP Power Wash! High-Foaming Wash AND Wax!

That product is DP Power Wash - the latest offering from Detailer's Power Series.

What is DP Power Wash?

Detailer’s Power Wash is a high-foaming, wax-infused shampoo that gently removes dirt and road grime while adding real carnauba wax protection to your vehicle. Detailer’s Power Wash is the only high-yield foaming auto shampoo that contains carnauba wax, increasing protection and shine after every wash. The thick, rich foam created by Detailer’s Power Wash encapsulates dirt particles, eliminating the chance of wash-induced swirl marks and scratches. Detailer’s Power Wash is the auto shampoo that does it all!

The "Wash & Wax" advantage

DP Power Wash and its carnauba-wax formulation was designed to add gloss and protection after every wash, without altering the look of your wax, sealant, or coating. The carnauba wax in DP Power Wash will actually reinforce your existing wax coating, restoring that "just waxed" shine after every wash.

Let's get one thing straight

Wash and wax formulas often have a bad reputation for altering the look of your LSP, not rinsing freely (thus leaving a film on glass), or attracting dust. Throw out every pre-conceived notion you have about wash and wax formulas and give DP Power Wash a try. You won't be disappointed.

..............

Foam Gun - it's a foam party!

DP Power Wash was formulated for use in a bucket or foam gun. We used the Half Gallon Foamaster Foam Gun to help wash Meghan's truck in a timely manner. Plus, it looks cool and it actually helps reduce the chance of inducing swirl marks by increasing dwell time and lubrication.

Add water to the reservoir, followed by 2-3 ounces of soap. Screw on the lid and shake well.

You can adjust the amount of suds with the metering slide bar. Looking at the metering bar from the top you'll see 6 equal sized holes. These are "stops" that lock the metering bar into position with the use of a spring loaded check ball inside the mixing chamber.

You can twist the metering bar sideways to push it in or out of the mixing chamber when choosing a solution level and then twist it back to the upright position to lock it into place.

I always use the largest hole so the most foam is created.

(Can you tell we use the Foamaster Foam Gun a lot? The one you see here is several years old!)

Securely attach the nozzle using the included quick connect.

Foam, foam, and more foam!

DP Power Wash was engineered to work in a Foamaster Foam Gun (or Foam Cannon). It creates mountains of suds that cling to the surface.

Big trucks also need BIG washing and drying tools....

Wash tools

Meghan used an Original Montana Boar's Hair Car Wash Brush and a Lake Country Wash Wedge. This duo enabled her to reach and clean every nook and cranny.

The trick with the boar's hair brush is to use a high-quality soap and to let the brush soak for a while before using it. There is also no need to apply any pressure. Rinse it frequently in a dedicated rinse bucket equipped with a Grit Guard Insert.

The Lake Country Wash Wedge works great for cleaning areas where the boar's hair brush is too large.

Ultimate Guzzler - water be gone!

The Ultimate Guzzler measures a whopping 28 x 44 inches, making it our largest drying towel. It also features two pockets to make it easy to hold onto. It's soft, has a tag that's easily removable (glued, not sewn on), and most importantly it won't scratch your paint!

Water spots are a problem that plagues car care enthusiasts living in regions with hard water. Water softeners in DP Power Wash help offset the effects of hard water so your vehicle dries with fewer water spots. These softening agents also allow the shampoo to achieve its full foaming potential.

It's just salt and mud. Just pressure wash it off and then it will be clean enough that any car shampoo will work well. You really don't need some super duper dirt fighting shampoo, you just need a pressure washer.

You might want to consider Meguiar's Hyper Wash if you are looking for a soap.

I'm sure that they work just fine, but just the thought of a brush skating across my hood makes me cringe:cry:

After using Megs Soft Gel, Maxi Suds II, Optimum Car Wash and having liked all I know prefer Megs Gold Class over all. Cleans as good as others but the shine it leaves behind is better.

I think something that may be over looked. What LSP are you using? I am still a big fan of carnuba wax look but possibly a strong sealant or coating would be better suited for your situation. With a good coating applied properly any soap or shampoo will be fine

I am using carnauba wax and currently use MEGS GOLD CLASS for my hand washing

I am not sure what do you recommend?
Hey, sorry it took so long to get back to you...home life with three kids under 4 is crazier than work. I know that Nick recommended DP's product and he knows waaaay more than I do, but in your situation I highly recommend this...Ultima PG Wash...The price is high, but this stuff is fantastic. Notice that it is not advertised as foam cannon shampoo but it will work with a little more concentration. I will probably get throttled for it on here, but that's what I would go with. The Ultima will leave some polymers behind...but it's an awesome shine and won't harm your carnauba. Great slickness for protection. Might be worth hitting a coin-op before foaming though.

Ultima is great. One of my favorites. I rotate between Optimum, Ultima, Megs M62, and Hyper wash.

All the recommended soaps will work well. I personally would go with the pressure wash and a 3 bucket method. Use one bucket with soap dedicated to the dirtiest lower section of your truck, then rinse in clean water. Dump the rinse water after doing the lower part of your truck and go over the whole truck with the second bucket of clean soapy water and rinse. This will help you to not swirl and scratch the paint.

That's a good call...like doing wheels first. I feel for this guy with the dirt roads...I lived on one before and will NEVER EVER move back to one. Even if it were only 100 yards on road.

Many great Car Wash Shampoos to pick from on AG.
I didn't see you mention what was your LSP.

My decision the last couple of years has been to stay in the family.
Auto Shampoo created by the same chemists to maintain their own LSP.

Then you get into the QD Spray options, again, staying in the family, I like the idea and trust all will play well with each other.

Of course you can reverse the process, find a auto wash concentrate that meets your expectations then look into their product line of LSP's and maintenance options.

I have yet to try a car wash soap that had a wow factor so I'm sure any decent brand will work
