What to apply on a Jeep Wrangler hardtop?

I am having the same problem on my 2000 wrangler. The hardtop looks just awful. What is this (UTTG) you speak of?

A soft flannal blanket to put over the top that will stay suspended from your garage ceiling only to be taken down to clean....Wait, that's what I did with mine! lol

Seriously though the Wrangler JK(07-12) models do not have NEAR the problem with hard top fading as the previous Wrangler's did. The hard top is the only plastic surface on my Jeep that I have not regularly applied UV protectant to. My reason behind this is that the hardtop spends more time off the Jeep than on it. The REAL problem with fading is the sound bar, and the black roll bar padding. Also the door surrounds. UTTG works well on these(not the roll bar padding) and would be the first thing I would do in your situation. Most importantly....Get out there and ENJOY your Jeep!!

So uh, I don't know about the 2000 TJ's, but the 07 and up (well for sure the 11-12's) hard top is NOT, I repeat NOT, textured plastic. If you do not have a body color matched top, then it is a textured black PAINT (95% sure on this). I've been using the Wolfgang DG Spritz for lack of having a better product right now (or knowledge of a better product), but I really don't think a trim product like UTTG is the right choice since it IS actually painted (again 95% sure it is paint and not just dyed on the outside or something similar).

I have a 2009 and my Freedom Top is not painted. It is not black, tan, or color matched. It's a very dark gray that matches the interior so idk then...

When I say textured black paint, I don't mean like the shiny stuff normally on vehicle bodywork, it's a very matte finish (as you might be able to see in my avatar I'm not sure). My impression at least was that it was a paint of some kind, but I did say I was only 95% sure, that's a lot of uncertainty :D I do know it scratches though after my last offroad trip lol.

The new CarPro Deluxe sounds like a fine choice. I did a new Rubicon with Opti Guard and it is great!

So what was your Pro take on the matte textured finished tops? Is it really a textured paint like I was thinking or is it just some sort of dye or something on the outside? I know the inside is white fiberglass and when the black gets scratched it shows white. Just trying to figure out the best thing to be using. Plastic trim products didn't seem right to me though for some reason.

Could be paint on fiberglass. In either case this surface didnt need restoration, only preservation. Nothing protects better than OG or OC IMO.

Thanks, just wanted to make sure I wasn't wasting my time using a paint product like Wolfgang spritz sealant on it. I got the spritz on BOGO a while back so I'm not running out any time soon lol.
