I just ordered the PC 7424 and 5.5 flat pads but now I'm a bit confused on what sealants or waxes to use in order to achieve the best results. We currently have 3 vehicles in the house. 1 is dark green, 1 is dark blue and the other one is super white. 2 of the vehicle have been neglected and need some TLC. I placed an order for a clay bar to start the process of repairing some of the damage. I just not sure what compound, polish or wax to use in order to repair some of the imperfections. I've read a few posts and people have mentioned Duragloss for light colored vehicles. Is there other products that I can use with all my cars or do I need to have different types for each vehicle? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank You!
 
Curious about the opinions on white paint also, specifically late-model Infiniti White Pearl....

There is alot of marketing and hype about wax/sealants. The truth is that 95% of the end result is preperation. IE clay, compound, polish. Those are the things that will give you stunning results. Wax makes up that last 5% and can make paint pop. I don't think its worth spending 50, or 100 dollars on a tin of wax.

I much prefer durability and good looks. I use collnite 845 and 3m performance sealant. For white cars I like a shinny reflective look and those come from sealants. you could also try opti coat 2.0 if you want some really long term protection +2 years

Sealant: Menzerna Power Lock
Wax: Collinite #845
 
105 and 205, great stuff for correction and polish! Souveran wax and Klasse high gloss sealant! It does not get better than this!
 
Welcome and first we need to know what your desire is for the cars, are they daily drivers(DD) that you just want to look better and have some protection on or do you have a garage queen that you want to make perfect?

If your just wanting DD that are clean and don't go whole hog right off I love the XMT 360 it does enough cleaning to get it all looking good puts down a coating of protection and you just work it until its gone, no waiting for it to haze or what have you.

If you want to do searious correction then I vote with Shawn.
 
Thanks to everyone that took the time to help me out. The fuzion sounds good but its a little over my budget. I'm considering Meguiars #105 & #205 because its more within my budget. There were a few choices mentioned for sealants so I will looked them up and see what I decide. Any other suggestions or tips would be appreciated. Thank You!
 
Polishes: Wolfgang Combo Wolfgang 8 oz. Swirl Remover Combo, Wolfgang polishes, total swirl remover, finishing glaze, machine glaze

Wax: Collinite 845 (probably the best bang for the buck for any wax or sealant) Collinite Liquid Insulator Wax #845, liquid wax, heat-resistant wax, car wax

Don't forget some DP Rinesless wash and gloss, you can mix it for a nice Quick detailer and mix it for clay lube. DP Rinseless Wash & Gloss, no rinse car wash, concentrated no rinse wash, quick detail spray, waterless wash

Thanks for the additional suggestions. Several people have mentioned Collinite 845 and I will definitely give that a try. The Wolfgang Combo also peaked my interest.
 
The final outcome of any project it really dependent on the amount of preparation.

Basic steps in order are:

  • Wash
  • Clay
  • Paint Correction & Polish
  • Seal
  • Wax
After a thorough washing, clay each panel to remove embedded debris. This is an important step as those particles will result in further surface damage during the paint correction stage.

If I had to recommend 2 products that can handle just about any finish defect leaving the finish exceptionally smooth it would be the following:

  • Menzerna Super Intensive Polish PO83Q - Orange & White Pads
  • Menzerna Super finish PO106FA - Gray, Blue, & Red Pads
Once the paint correction has been completed wash each panel with soap and water to remove polishing residue, rinse, and dry completely prior to applying a sealant.

I agree with everything above except for the choice of sealant for a dark colored car. For me it has to be Blackfire Wet Diamond Sealant. Toady I put a second coat on a 1998 green Ford Explorer . The way I looked at it after I was done made my wife jealous.
 
I listed just some of the sealants available today. BlackFire Wet Diamond Sealant is a very nice sealant with a large following...
 
You have 3 cars that you want to detail and maintain. If you use things like Souveran wax and Klasse high gloss sealant, Fuzion ect plan on taking a few vacation days to use; they are great products but they are time intensive.

The newer synthetic products have made the to provide outstanding performance with a small time imvestment. My new favorite is Opti-Seal topped by Optimum Spray Wax; 10-15 minutes per car and you wont break a sweat! On a properly prepped car it can hold its own against all.

Welcome to the club MedicBMC. I searched for Blackfire Wet Diamond but I could not find it at AG. A couple of people have mentioned it so I would like to give it a try and see if I can see the difference. Too many options, which is always good.

It will help you understand the differences between the Meg SMAT polishes and the diminishing abrasives that the WG and Menzerna use. That is the big difference between the two brands.

IMHO the WG polishes are a bit easier to use for a beginner than the 105/205 but that is just my opinion. I have both polishes and almost always reach for the WG polishes first. The 105/205 take a bit of a learning curve but in the end possibly more versital and capable to correct more severe blemishes. Keep in mind that the above is only one guys opinion.

I think you can find Blackfire Wet Diamond at Autopia. I hope saying this doesn't get me in trouble. I think Autopia and AG are both under the same umbrella, so to speak.

You'll be very happy with the WGPS with 845. I find the PC to work better with Menzerna stuff when compared to 105/205, even with the new DA formulation.
 
Thanks for the info Buckskincolt. I had a difficult time choosing between 105/205 and WG. My blue car is in pretty bad shape so I'll give a try first with 105/205. I been reading and watching some of the instructional videos to prepare myself and it looks like its pretty difficult to damage the paint using the PC 7424XP. I'm not saying its impossible but not likely. I really hope I don't have to eat my words. I'll check Autopia for Blackdiamond. Thx!
