I recently washed my car, 1996 Lincoln Continental, it's Toreador red with a clear coat, okay, after I washed and dryed it I noticed on the hood some spots and no matter how hard I rubbed, I also tried some polish and that didn't work.
Anyone have any ideas what these spots are and how to get rid of them??
many thanks,

Pics would help, just guessing clearcoat failure.:Picture:

:Picture: Yep could be any number of things, clear coat failure or water spots or..... I am sure if you post some pics someone here can help

I took the car to the local Ford dealer paint shop, and the paint shop manager said the spots were water spots and the only way to rid my car of them is to, have someone that knows what he is doing, buff them out with a 3000-3500 rpm buffer and some 3M rubbing compound, I forget what he called it, but it costs around $100.00 per gallon, however he also said a little of this compound goes a long way.

I dont trust dealerships as most of them dont know what they are doing in the detailing. Upload some pics so we can see more.

Did you remove the wax before trying to get rid of those spots?

AMEN, no dealer help. If its water spots we can help you out no problem. Get us some pictures and we will walk you through it.

LOL @ 3500 RPMs

Do yourself a favor and never go back there again....

If you post some pics we can help you out.

I will try to post some pix, however I don't have a digital camera, but I will try and find a neighbor with one.
many thanks,
Frank
