Hi, I am new here, and need some help. Sorry, this may be a long explanation. I have a 2002 GMC Duramax that I have had for 6 years. It has been becoming more and more my pull truck instead of my driver, with that said, I have it in the shop for the winter for several projects for the next season and I want to make the paint cherry for this up coming pulling season. I had the truck two toned a year and a half ago, and the clear coat on the added black seems very soft, so it scratches easily, but the Black Box kit seems to temporarily take away the numerous light scratches. (I don't know if that will help) The pewter factory paint is in overall good condition, but it is 9 years old so there is some wear from the years. I am extremely fanatical about washing and waxing, but it is all hand/ pressure washing as I do not know how to properly do the machine buffing and such. What I am asking for is a list of "To Dos" that will make my paint look new. What would you guys suggest? If pictures of the paint will help, I can get them this weekend. Finally, if you suggest wet sanding, machine buffing, or anything more in depth, would you please post a link the threads explaining how to properly do so? Sorry for the long post, any help would be greatly appreciated.

A couple close-up pictures would help of some of the areas in question. Every car is a little different so it's hard to give exact advice on the To-Do's for your paint.
I would spend some time watching videos and reading many of Mike's articles on paint care and work. I thought I knew a lot about car care until I just started reading and watching. I learned much of what I know and do now that way. Good luck.

I'm not sure what your question is. If your looking for a product to apply by hand to cover up swirls, I suggest Meguiars # 7

Hope this helps

Sam, first things first...........:welcome: To Autogeek Online!

Everyone starts off as a beginner but with some reading, questions, and trial, error, and practice you'll be amazed how much you'll be able to do.

This link contains articles written by Mike Phillips and has allot of great reading within.

Basic steps are:

  • Wash
  • Clay
  • Polish or Paint Correction
  • Seal
  • Wax
If you're serious about making your truck look pristine then I suggest you invest in a kit tat contains a dual action polisher.
