What to use on black paint at a car show?

I disagree. Try letting your CCD sit on newspaper overnight and it will solve this problem! :) :xyxthumbs:
I did that with mine just like the directions stated but I don't think it gets it all, I still got some wax traces on my paint but the more I use it the better it gets. I think some dust build up helps soak up the wax.

A few of the cars shows I attend are about a 20-30 minute drive. By the time I get there, I'll have a light coating of dust on the car.

I was using Lucas Slick Mist, which says it can be applied in direct sunlight but it seems to leave a lot of streaks. But on a hot summer day in the sun, on hot black paint, I'm not sure if it's the products fault.

Any suggestions on a quick way to clean off the dust? Would FK425 work any better? I've been wanting to try it but haven't yet.
Hi having prepared 6 cars for the Pebble Beach Concur
I would first ask what polish you are using.
Some thoughts would be--If you are using a true wax vs a polyurethane polish I used to soak a clean medium sized towel
in water and wring it out good and bag it, and go over the car a panel at a tme followed by a dry towel when I got there. The problem with wax is the fast detailers are a lower molecular weight and get under the wax and lift it to the surface hence streaking.
If you are using a polyurethane polish and it has cured on the car correctly, i simply use Windex followed by a clean soft towell like i'm cleaning glass. In my experiences the amonia
seems to make the Finnish harder and brighter. Now days I always use a poly based polish like Maguire's Ultimate or another great one is Finnish First Finish First Polish
Hope this helps
Good luck at the shows

That sounds like some bunk science.

windex will strip wax and paint sealants straight off the paint. (which makes it great at removing grease off of windows ! :) )

you do realize that we are talking about newer style VOC compliant water based quick detailers , right ? Nobody here mentioned solvent based quick detailers.

The water based quick detailers will not penetrate and remove cured wax.

I had a black Mustang for year that I took to many car shows. I always used a California Duster and Meguiar's detail spray. Still what I use at shows now....

Does AG sell that polish exchoice spoke of?

I've had my current California duster for about 4 years now and it's well broken in. On a cool spring or fall day, slightly overcast, I can use the duster no problem followed up with a QD.

The problem was on the 4th of July, it was about 90 degrees out and the sun was very intense. Days like this in the past, it would still melt whatever wax was in the duster fibers. And like I mentioned, my duster is old, very well used and broken in.

I was just frustrated after getting there unable to clean it up without turning it into a bigger mess. A lot of other guys there were having similar problems as I was. My QD was literally steaming as it hit the body. I tried spraying directly into the towel and then wipe down and it just left a bunch of streaks.

Next time I might be better off just leaving the dust on it. It honestly looked better dusty than it did after I tried cleaning it up.

Take a look at those products I mentioned on the previous page, I just saw someone using them on a black mustang, on direct sun light with almost 90* on a very sunny day... And they worked great...

I had the EXACT same problem at a recent car show I was at, and my duster is at least a couple years old. I sat it out on a newspaper and all that too when I first got it...

My God, it made a HUGE mess on my black car!

I have added those items to my wish list. I'll give them a try along with some of the other suggestions. Thanks for your help!

Instead of the California duster try laying a large plush MF over the surface, hold it by two corners and just let the weight of the towel drag across the paint. You can lightly mist the MF with your fav QD and work it into the towel to help it grab the dust, without streaking. Very gentle. :xyxthumbs:

Why not Wipe on Wipe off, section by section, a coat of Souveran right after you get there?
