i was detailing my friends car a few days ago, (vw gli), and when i was vaccuming it was really hard to get some things to come out. it seemed like the dirt was "within" the carpet itself, i couldnt get it out with the "claw" attatchment for my ridgid wet/dry vac, i switched over to a stiff-ish bristled brush and it helped a little bit but i still couldnt vacuum all the dirt out. i took a stiff bristeld brush to see if it would loosen the stuff up so i could vacuum it, but it didnt help all that much.

what do you use to help vacuum out stubborn dirt out of carpet/upholstery?

also,

in what order do you clean the interior?

it took me about 5 hours to do his interior, that includes getting everything and shampooing the carpets/upholstery with my aztec extractor.

this is wat i did:

vacuum everything, including dashboard and headliner and vents.

clean all hard surfaces, cup holders, door jams, pedals etc.

apply protectant to all hard surfaces

do a quick vacuum again to pick up anything i tracked into the car.

shampoo carpets, upholstery, and mats and extract.

do a final wipe down of all hard surfaces.

should this be taking me 5hrs?

it wasnt really filthy at all, i think we were just dragging since we wer talking at the same time, i think i could probably do it quicker if i was focused.

I've been looking at brushes that attach to a DA polisher for interior cleaning.

Take a long as you need to clean.

I pull out the floor mats and vacuum them. Vacuum the seats then the carpets.

Clean all hard surfaces with 1z Cockpit Premium (or more aggressive if needed).

Clean the carpets and floor mats, spray Gtechniq W2 at the right ratio and scrub. Same with cloth seats. Then wipe up the dirt.

If needed steam the carpets (haven't needed to yet)

Clean the glass and re-install the floor mats.

If you think its taking you too long, look at the cleaners you are using.

If you have a Kroger near by, pick up some Libmann bot brushes. The green and white ones work great on carpet, as I've found. Autogeek also sells a carpet brush for $4 dollars that should do the job fine. Big hand brushes take a bit of practice to get the hang of pulling the dirt out, but after you get the hang of using hard bristle brush, you'll never go back.Im the MAN

Compressed Air! I tried it after a tip from the folks here, and it works great!!!! Now I just need a real compressor again since my last one was stolen.

That sounds awesome.:awesome:I'm gonna have to give this a try one day if I can. I've always read this on the forum but though it was for bigget trash. If it gets the dirt out that would save a massive amount of time!

thats a really good idea actually. my wet/dry vac that i use for vacuuming blows really hard through the other end, ill just attach the blower nozzle and use that instead of an air compressor.

thanks for the idea! ill try it out soon

I have a very good wet/dry vac and an assortment of brushes.. but what I have found brings up the loose sand and dirt the best is to "play the drums" on the carpeting. Put on a pair of gloves to protect your hands, pick a drum heavy tune that you like and use your hands to "play the drums" on the carpet. You'll be amazed at what it brings up!

The brush should be fairly stiff but I like ones that have a lower bristle density so it will get into the carpet - something like the Mothers Carpet brush.
