I have a 2011 Silverado that has sentimental value to it. I don't plan on ever getting rid of it and I try to keep the miles as low as possible, but right now it gets driven almost daily. I keep it clean and protected, but there are swirls and "love marks" here and there. The metallic paint helps to hide it and to most people it looks pretty darn nice. However I can see the imperfections which I think I caused early in the truck's life due to a lack of knowledge. Fast forward to now and I do not think I am introducing anymore swirls, but every once in awhile new marks appear. Should I just live with these imperfections as I'm not going to have enough clear coat to polish for as long as I plan on keeping the truck? If there is anyone who has a vehicle they've kept for a long time or plan to, what do you guys do about this?

If you plan to keep it as long as you say, I would look into a coating.

I've thought about a coating. When the coating needs replaced would polishing be removing even more clear or just the coating? Plus it would need corrected before I applied a coating.

You ask good ?'s but there is only 1 answer (since you want to keep your Silverado). Invest in a PTG for $200+ like I did. I bought the Highline V2 and it opened up my eyes. Take some meaningful measurements of you car's paint and go from there. You may have lots of CC left or very little to work from.
