New here and want to put together a good kit. Been lurky for awhile now and determined a few things that I would do to create my ideal kit. First things first, I have a 2014 Black Jeep Grand Cherokee. Paint is beautiful!! However an eager nephew with a bucket full of dawn and a brush made my baby looks bad. So I want to build a decent kit without breaking the bank. I live in the burbs outside of Chicago so salt and snow have become the norm this season like no other in 20 years. Here is what has made my short list and I would like to here what you guys think.

Wash/Soap: Meguiars Gold Class (Big box stores) or Duragloss 902

Mitt: Meguiars Microfiber Wash Mitt (after hours and hours...no sheepskin and no wool..even merino...too expensive as well, microfiber really seems to be the safest)

Towel: Guzzler HD (how many for a car my size I dont know) for drying and Meguiars supreme shine detail towels for waxing along with their foam applicator.

Wax: ...dont laugh NXT 2.0. I am a Zaino guy from way back, I know it doesnt last as long but it shines pretty close and is worlds easier to put on. I can do NXT in less than an hour and dont mind doing it once every 3 months. Sure Zaino is amazing but it is a b***h and time consuming having a a black Acura CL I zainoed it enough to know I dont want to do it again! Waxing is also like mindless therapy so once every 3 months isnt bad!

Method: I use the simple Two Bucket method of washing in an indoor garage. (2) five gallon buckets (this is a new method to me) one for soap one to rinse the mitt. No leaf blower...getting a little to over the top.

I am looking to make this easy, fast, decent, without marring, scratches, and/or water spots.

My old kit was zipwax, sheepskin mitt, and the absorber. It was ok for a leased car.

Let me know what you guys use. I am curious or what you recommend. Let me know if I am missing something as well...oh and I have a wheel brush as well. I chose some of these items because they are more readily available (local) and I would also like to keep the cost down.

Welcome from Addison what suburb are you from? There are tons of guys from the chicago area on here. Check out the chicago meet that is being talked about on a recent thread

As for your list:
Seems like your going the OTC route which is not a bad idea for starters.

Wash: gold class is a good soap. I rarely ever use it anymore unless I ran out of my usual go to. Which is dg 901, 902 is just the gallon size I believe. Have you thought about a rinseless wash?

Mitt: I'm sure someone can chime in on that mitt. I have never used it. I tend to use the cobra chenille mitt or grout sponges.

Same with towel lol. I use pak shak wws

Wax: Love nxt 2.0 it is actual a sealant not a wax. Great product to start out with. Also check out 4star and black fire wet diamond two awesome sealants sold here on AGO.

Thanks Thanng!! Meet up looks cool! Would love to go. Might have to bring the wifes G37...more fun to drive than the Jeep.

Heres my jeep, washed it friday after work:

Its been a garage queen due to the recent weather. She will be out monday.

Are you planning to correct the defects, or are you looking to just maintain the finish?

You jeep looks nice. Your kit looks good. Nothing wrong with NXT 2.0. It's very similar to the professional version M21. The mit is good as well as that soap.

That's a good question.

Both. It shouldnt be too difficult as new as this car is to fix what my nephews has done. There after I am the only one washing her.

Thanks Guz, I was also considering picking up a Foamaster or ez all foamer. Watching Junkmans stuff got me thinkin that is the way to go. Seems to speed it up and really gets the suds for great lubricity going. Now I gotta find out which foamer to get.

It's hard to say without seeing pictures of the damage.

If you plan to correct the paint, you can easily spend $500 to $800 in equipment and supplies, but it will be a good investment.

Here's what I would suggest:

- Rupes Duetto
- Iron-X spray, 1L
- Speedy Prep Towel or Nanoskin Wash Mitt, fine grade
- LC Flat Orange Pad or LC HydroTech Cyan Pad, 3 - 5.5"
- LC Flat White Pad, 3 - 5.5"
- Menzerna FG400 (for heavy compounding with Orange pad, use with White pad for moderate defects)
- Menzerna SF4000 (use with white pad for finishing)
- CarPro CQuartz UK w/Reload, 30 ml kit (Lasts 18-24 months, I coated a 2011 Grand Cherokee with just 1/3 of the bottle)
- CarPro Hydr02 - takes 5-10 min, use every few washes to maintain the coating.
- Bag of Kirkland yellow towels (Jeep paint usually isn't super soft, so it should be okay)

It isnt that bad, swirls so I am not overly worried. Just didnt want to have to do this right now...especially considering we are probably in for some bad weather still.

Picked up a cheap pressure washer an AR112 1600 PSI unit, it was 69 bucks and has its own foamer (not sure how go it is) but 69 bucks, I need to clean my bricks on my patio, garage, driveway and sidewalks. So I think this thing might be nice for more then the carwash detail.
