What's the best wax for a white car?

Never used a DG 501, what is it? How does it cure? Is it a sealant, cause I never used a sealant before.
DG501 is an cleaner/sealant with great durability. 12 hour cure, but when used in conjunction with DG601 2 hours. and increased durability. It is much like DG105 but with more cleaning. Dg601 can be applied separately prior to the sealant or can be mixed 1:4 with the sealant.

I'll have to add that to my collection for sure.. I've read a lot of good reviews regarding Collinite!

BOBBY! How you doing?
Ya I used Megs Gold for years, and I started reading all these posts on high end waxes and it's been down hill ever since... I'm broke! lol Your right for the price it dosen't get better than Gold.

Jimmy,

I'm doing well, just recovering from a bit of knee surgery before the Holiday...Im the MANSometimes what we'd call "lesser expensive" products work surprisingly well and provide a fabulous shine and protection at a very reasonable cost. Collinite 845 always amazes me and is probably the biggest bang for the buck when it comes to waxes...:props:

Just out of curiosity, how many threads do we have asking this question?

I was just curious as to your process vs. the steps others take to tackle the same job/vehicle.

Oh... just as good...

Since this is a daily driver that sits outside all the time, the owner isn't really what the rest of us would call a "Car Guy" at least that I know of... he's a heck of a nice guy... but this is just "transportation" to him.

The topic of Best Wax for White Paint comes up often and I usually post something to the effect that with with white paint you can't get a lot of depth and mirror like reflections like you can with black and dark colored cars, so my goal was to create as much gloss as possible while doing a great job of cleaning and sealing the paint for the Florida climate.

So we'll probably keep it simple,

  • Wash with a rinseless wash
  • Clay
  • Machine Polish - Hopefully just one step
  • Top with a finishing wax or paint sealant
Gloss comes from smoothness, so the goal will be to focus on claying and the machine polishing process.

:)

I have a white SUV coming up... hasn't been clayed or waxed for probably a year or two and I think it is parked outside 24x7

The key to your end results is always going to be the surface prep steps just like any color and especially anything with a clear coat because you're not working on a "color" you're working on clear paint.

In short, any wax or paint sealant that makes clear coated black paint look great is going to make clear coated any color look great.

If a wax or paint sealant doesn't make a clear coated black finish look great it isn't going to make any color look great it's just that you're eyes might not be able to see the differences.

I'd be open to suggestions from forum members as to what to use for the LSP?

:)

Any chance you can get your hands on Meguiars Ultimate Paste Wax and give us your opinions on it??

This is where our forum members post incredible reflection shots coming out of the white paint on their cars...

:D

Sort of a dark pic so it's not the best but this was Collinite 845 topped with Dodo White Diamond, or whatever their white soft wax is called IIRC. Top of the trunk looks pretty wet to me considering it's white.

Very nice car, I like your taste in cars Rob, less is more :)

Exactly, and I commend you for noticing the common thread in my taste for cars.

I also owned a 93 twin turbo RX-7, another car that emphasized the "less is more" philosophy with regard to reduced weight and improved performance.

Many, many very good suggestions in the previous posts.

In my opinion, it really comes down to what your personal tastes and perceptions are and looking at pictures of other cars should help you with that.

I always lean towards Pinnacle products since I have had very good luck with them and my PERCEPTION of the finish and shine with Pinnacle products is one other reason I use them.

Mike talked about any thing that make black look good will make any color look good. Spot on....

Here is my wife's Black BMW Roadster (68K miles) with Pinnacle Signature Series II eight days after application and 500 road miles to a car meet.

The next two are of my Alpine White ///M Coupe (17K miles) with Pinnacle Liquid Sovereign approx. six days after application. The car is driven every day and parked outside since the Roadster gets the garage.

Look and see if this is the kind of shine you are looking for.

My big thing is being able to see the wax on a white car. I already have a tendency to over apply wax, but when you throw the fact that I can't see where I have been, well. So I would make my pick based on the ease of use factor and being able to see it against the white. Any of the ones meantioned easier to see than another on white? I bought Natty Blue mainly for this reason, but it doesn't go on blue. Ooops :)

I'm a little quirky with my car buying, but all my cars are white (BMW 745Li, Mercedes C300). Even my shop show cars are white (Lambo LP640, Ferrari 360, Nissan GTR, MB SL55, MB A-class, etc), I've tried tons of sealants (Wolfgang, Opti-Seal, Megs, Blackfire WD, Poorboys, etc) and tons of waxes (AG HD, Fuzion, Pinnacle, Blackfire MS, Natty's, Dodo Juice Light Fantastic & Supernatural, FK1000, 845, DG, etc). Obviously, 90% of it is in prep, but afterwards, my favorite combo is still Blackfire Wet Diamond with a layer Fuzion for white.

Funny, I was just thinking about this very question over the last few days as I am considering buying one of these (in Carrara White):

Rob, damn you and your expensive cars!!! :) kidding... I really do envy you though, bud ;) If you do get that white boxster, I'll say that you copied my new fave color ;)

To the OP, since I am fairly new to the white paint addiction (always had black prior), the only LSP I was able to try given the winter weather that is now upon us, is WGDGPS. It looked great on unprepped paint (see my prior threads). I did order and receive a tub of Sig Series II and Supernatural to try out in spring, after paint correction and application of PB White Diamond glaze. I think I can't go wrong with any of those two. Same should apply to you. I did hear that Fuzion tended to darken paint some?!?!?! not sure, but let me know how you like Fuzion on white if you do try.

Expensive cars? It's a "lowly" Boxster! ;)

But the Spyder is so much more..... :xyxthumbs:

I'd be curious to hear what you think Supernatural would look like on white. It's a brighter more reflective wax, so I would think that it would be a good choice.

Yeah the new boxsters are supposed to be killer. If you do get it, I got dibs on your Exige ;)

Yeah I am hoping to try out Supernatural on both white AND black paints of my cars. Wondering how it compares to Souveran and Fuzion... I just wish I could detail right NOW. Too cold... no heater in garage and no drain in garage :(

p.s. were you able to order Souveran, Rob?

The Exige S will go on the market before too long, so I will let you know the day it does so you can have your first "dibs"!! :props:

Yep, I got the Souveran. Looking forward to trying it in my red HHR!

Bump.

It's official, I now own a White car (a color that I said I would never own...but is the best color on the Spyder).

Just wondering if you settled on a LSP for your white 370Z?
