What's the best wax for a white car?

Bump.

It's official, I now own a White car (a color that I said I would never own...but is the best color on the Spyder).

Just wondering if you settled on a LSP for your white 370Z?

Enjoy your new Spyder!

While white might not have the bling of black, it sure is easier to keep looking clean.

Congratulations! The Boxster Spyder is very hot. Less = More!

Thanks guys!

I actually got the car a week ago today. The day I bought the car it was pouring rain. I think most of you know what's been happening in SoCal the last week in terms of record rainfall. For some reason the Sportscar God's decided to punish me, and I couldn't drive the car much over the last week. But skies are clear today, so I hope to get out and drive her.

A couple pics (taken in the garage during rain, so the quality isn't very good):

I'm thinking of just going with Fuzion after I polish her. There are some swirls in the paint that are noticeable under the halogens.

Awesome ride Rob!! One of my top 3 favorite porsches :) Are you going to track this car?? Please say yes :D

Thanks, I'm loving the car and was actually able to drive it with the top down today in 70 degree weather.

Not sure about tracking the car yet..

Hi Rob,
Thats a beautiful ride you have there. I am from Australia and new to the forum, I have a white VX SS Commdore 2001 model, I just finally got some premium products. I got the P21S concourse wax, which I will put on tomorrow, will let you all know how it looks. Washed the car with P21 wash and clayed the car today, already looks much better. I will do the p21 paint cleanse and p21 wax tomorrow and get some pics up.

If I didn't have #16 or Paste Glaz then UPP or WG DGS would be my #1 choice for white.

What did you go with? I am going to be doing a wash/clay/wax on a white Mustang V6 on Monday. I was planning on using the AutoGlym HD I have. The car has massive contamination in the paint, and horrible swirling. The owner does not want the any paint correction at this time though. I might glaze it to be nice though.

Rob, that is a sick car. I got a chance to see one at a cruise in. I love what they have done with it.

I have a white SUV coming up... hasn't been clayed or waxed for probably a year or two and I think it is parked outside 24x7

The key to your end results is always going to be the surface prep steps just like any color and especially anything with a clear coat because you're not working on a "color" you're working on clear paint.

In short, any wax or paint sealant that makes clear coated black paint look great is going to make clear coated any color look great.

If a wax or paint sealant doesn't make a clear coated black finish look great it isn't going to make any color look great it's just that you're eyes might not be able to see the differences.

I'd be open to suggestions from forum members as to what to use for the LSP?

:)

I thought that most white was single stage?

I am I wrong?

A glaze might be a nice touch and can help hide swirls but they typically return as the wax wears off. May I suggest a good prewax paint cleaner after the clay, then maybe a hand glaze to help remove contamination, oxidation and help hide some of the swirls. I used OG Special Touch for years before applying their Omega Glaze and a wax on our white BMW as standard upkeep.

I recently picked up CG Glosswerkz glaze that is supposed to help fill swirls and add gloss, however it is a polymer glaze that crosslinks making it more durable. It's supposed to be good under wax or sealants without affecting durabilty and may not wash away like a standard hand glaze. I just used it on the hood of my wife's car under WGDGPS to see if it affects durability but I'm probably a month away for knowing if there is any effect.

I'm glad that I only detail my own cars and a few family/friends' cars. It totally bums me out when the paint is thrashed and it would drive me nuts if I couldn't fix the swirls.

Most newer cars have clear coat over the color. If you are working on older cars (<70's, some 80's and maybe some 90's), I sort of remember whites, reds and blacks tended to be the last to move from single stage paints.

My red '84 Thunderbird Turbo coupe had clear coat. I'm pretty sure our white 88 Mazda 929 had clear coat as I don't remember white paint when polishing. Our friend's mid-late 80's red Toyota was single stage as I remember red on my pads. My friend's '93 white Honda has clear coat. I'm pretty sure that all my Dodge and Ford company cars/vans/Explorers starting mid-80's had clear coat (lgt blue, red, white, dark green). Our '99-'08 bimmers are clear coat. My firend's 96 black Porsche has clear coat.

I have not worked on some of the exotics that may still have single stage paints.

I would suggest (if you have it) Poorboys white diamond, or Pinnacle paint cleaner topped with Sig II/ Souverän. I think this will give you the best shine without the polishing.

After claying I had planned on using, Mothers Pre Wax Cleaner (unless I can find the duragloss local), followed by CG EZ Creme Glaze. As an LSP I am probably going to go with Auto Glym. Although I have considered using BFWD.

I did a winter prep on a new Volvo and got awesome depth and shine with one layer of power lock.

I Used auto glym on my white civic, and it works well, until Souveran.. Wow factor!!

I went ahead and applied a coat of Fuzion on my Carrara White Spyder, and I'm very pleased with the results.

Of course I have no idea how it would compare with any other LSP on white since this is my first white car...

I only polished and waxed the front half of the car (to prep it for a clear bra installation). I may try something else on the back half of the car after polishing that part of the car. I'm probably going to try WG DGPS which I haven't used yet.

You do know that they have to strip the wax to apply the clear bra, right?

Absolutely.

I should have been more clear. I *polished* the car to remove all swirls (there were plenty) prior to them applying the clear bra. I didn't want a clear bra applied over swirls, as it would make them permanent for the most part.

I didn't bother waxing the very front bumper of the car where I know the clear bra will go. I wasn't sure exactly how far up the hood the clear bra would go, so I did wax the entire hood....knowing full well that they will apply a cleaner prior to installing the 3M clear bra.
