Hi gentlemen,

Does anyone know what the cheapest (yet still reliable) method would be to ship a few small detailing products from the U.S. to Germany?

I wanted to help out a mate by shipping out some 32oz. polish and a few other items. Basically, the box (less than 12") will be around 4.5lbs.

USPS quoted me $47 Priority (no insurance) and $58 Express.

I'm no expert, but I think either their rates have really jumped over the last few years or they charge all over the place for different countries that are in the same general region. For example, a few years back I shipped out a large box that weighed around 20lbs. to Ireland and it cost about $45 insured for $600. So the quote they gave me recently seemed a bit high.

Anyways, is there a cheaper source than USPS? Shipping so high it almost costs as much as the product.

sounds about right actually I just sent a pair of shoes back to my sister in Poland that she had left here and it was only about 1.5lbs and was $15 boat slow shipping but she got it in a week.

I'm a rural carrier.
With the weight you're talking about, you would have to use Priority mail. The flat rate box is $47.95 (sizes: 13-5/8" x 11-7/8" x 3-3/8" or 11" x 8-1/2" x 5-1/2")
Using your own box (less than 108" total W+H+L) @ 4.5 lbs is $47.
There is a small flat rate box, max weight 4 pounds, 8-5/8" x 5-3/8" x 1-5/8" that goes for $16.95. If the items would fit into 2 of these it would be a little cheaper than 1 of the medium boxes.
Hope that helps.

That's great info. Thank you very much. Is the box itself free?At my post office, they have a bunch of various size boxes that are free. Not sure if this one would be.

Yes, those are free USPS boxes. Not sure if every PO has every size.
