just used the GG 3" for the first time.

Compound - Sonus SFX-1
Pad - Buff and Shine 4" microfibre cutting pad

did many passes and can't even get this tiny scratch out. what's the deal?

pressure would slow the rotation down a lot, so i tried minimal pressure. pretty sure i have the newest model that apparently has more power?

That scratch is tiny - but looks deep. This is always hard to tell in pictures though.

If you can feel it with your nail - compounding it out is likely not safe. That looks like it may catch your nail.

nope, it seemed to me very shallow.
i've removed scratches deeper than that.
does the gg 3" just suck?

Those are called RIDS if im not mistaken those will take touch up or sometime sanding out after a closer inspection applying more pressure or power will not help it only speed up the process or buring though your paintwork a suggest is if a defect can not be removed first few passes leave it be

Take a look a the link

I agree. Honestly, as picky as I am - that scratch looks microscopic almost. I wouldn't grind away at clear coat to try and remove it. I'd just let it be.

thank you for your help:)

but what's up with the gg 3" slowing down so much?
i was hoping to use it on the A pillars. but would that even work now?
what would you recommend doing A-pillar work?

A PC or GG6 w/ a LC 2 & 7/8" BP and LC 3" pads.

That little scratch looks to me like it might be a crow's foot type of crack rather than a scratch. If so it probably goes deep beyond the base coat. Could that be a possibility?

As for the GG 3" polisher, I've always looked at that as a cutesy little toy rather than a real polisher. Don't own one so couldn't say for sure..

If its not budging then IMO is the start of clear coat failure known as crows feet or cracking.

so any instances you would even use the gg 3"

I don't own one, but generally people seem to be disappointed in them. Maybe good to apply wax or sealant with a Rupes 4" white pad.

Crows Feet seem to be more common on certain cars. What year and type of car is it?

When I use my PC 7424 with Megs MF pads or LC CCS 4" pads...the speed setting is always 5-6

Make sure you concentrate on keeping the pad flat against the surface and mark your BP

I have had great results w the Megs 3" cutting pads and Megs D300 compound

damn.
so pretty much wasted $115.....

it's a 2010 corolla.

Are all 3" polisher like this? including Rupes?

so i guess the route is to get a 3" BP to put on the GG 6"

and i read on here that 4" pads are ok on 3" BP correct?

The Rupes mini machine is awesome. It's as powerful as the bigger ones pretty much. You can use a 4" pad on a 3" BP - but a 3.5" BP will work better with 4" pads that are not tapered.

That is why I recommended Rupes 4" pads. Because, the Velcro part is 3" - but the face is 4"...They taper larger towards the face.

i've only ever applied wax by hand in straight lines since circular motions kind of scare me incase there's a piece of dirt or something i missed.
Even a tiny speck of any soil can wreak havoc on a paint-film when straight-line waxing.

After ensuring the paint's cleanliness...
give the GG-3" a try as a wax spreader.
I bet you'll enjoy it!

i shall give that a try

could a white buff and shine pad work for wax spreading?

you can use it to wetsand headlights/isolated areas, and apply wax/sealants. it's too bad the megs xtra-cut discs didn't come in a 3" size (only 5" & 6") because it doesn't have the foam backing like the cutting and finishing discs and i would imagine it would cut quicker and not bog down as easy...

If that is a polishing pad, I would say no. Get a 3 or 4 inch blue or red lake country pad (flat or CCS) and a 2 7/8 or 3.5 inch backing plate. To make it even easier, I just use the 6.5 inch blue or red CCS pads for wax/sealant on the GG6 on speed 2.5. I get the smaller spots by hand.
